8:53 Take a look at that fender you show. The vertical part of it closest to the tire exactly matches the bumper, but then the part above the vertical doesn't match... either the bumper or the vertical part. Why? do you really think the vertical part of the fender is painted differently from the part above it? Of course not. It's all about the angle the light hits the paint with. Light bounces off the concrete onto the paint, as well as from the sun directly. The ANGLE the light hits depends on the curves of the metal under the paint. that difference depending on light angle is what metallic paint does. Different angle, different color tone. That's all you're seeing.
That color difference is because to the way the metallic paint was applied. It is the same color but the metallic flake was sprayed in a different direction or pattern.
For one thing there is a lot of sound dampening in the car since the engine is behind you. As far as your paint it cost $995.00 not $1500.00 and your bumper color it depends on the light reflection in the metal flake and the horizontal, vertical, and flat areas. I saw were it matched at the right angle. You got the 2LT base model with $1195.00 performance exhaust not $1500.00 as you said. You make it sound like you got ripped off. I heard the Z51 package have better sound and if you don't like the exhaust spend $5,000.00 on an after market exhaust. Now for your transmission light. GM filled it for everyday driving. It looked like you tack showed the car wasn't broke in which means lower torque. In the manual it say you must add additional 2 quarts of your going to do performance driving. It's not quality control issue it driver issues!!
Agreed. Ok it’s a great value in other ways, and you might accept that on a 17,000 dollar car but not for 60 grand - that’s absurd. You wouldn’t find that on a 20,000 Japanese economy car.
Ha you guys are funny because I have heard this complaint many times about the exhaust. The car is too quiet in the cabin but the exhaust sounds great outside. DUH? Isn't that the purpose of what the engineers quest was? Take the top off and you will be in your glory! But that color difference from the bumpers to the body is absolutely horrible. If that was my car and when I buy mine that's the first thing I'll be looking at before I hand over the money. Hopefully torch red is not like that. Bro you seem to be accepting that very well. Thanks for the heads up on that.
Title is misleading. How about "5 things I would change". . . .You are pretty accurate in stating that these things are "Nit Picky". In my opinion, they are not even worth consideration. However the screw issue inside the drivers side door I do find noteworthy. Just my personal opinion, this video was more about making a video vs making a video with substance. Just my opinion. Nevertheless, interesting to see how some customers perceive this new product offering from General Motors Chevrolet Division.
Problem #2 seems to be a problem, not being able to see the upper part of the instrument display. You should not have to slouch. Can your seat be lowered to help fix the problem?
@@kcimages5157 I agree. If Chevy/GM programmed the steering wheel of C8 to allow farther adjustments in height than it actually does, he would probably complain it obstructs part of his view of the windshield.
I tested in a 2022 3LT...results. seat at lowest position and wheel at max height position and in a good driving position, I can view 100% of info cluster though right at the upper margin. that's the way it is for me in my M3 too.
I am actually glad the car interior is quieter. I have a C7 and can barely hear my phone earpiece when going over 25 mph. Also I'm sure the stereo sounds better in a quieter interior. Didn't look like the Z51 with the performance exhaust so not sure why you would complain about that. Like others said take the top off and roll the windows down.
A GM product with ergonomic, build quality, and paint issues.....sounds about right. You get what you pay for. If you think the visible quality issues are bad, just imagine the quality of the things you can’t see......
Hello, I am a Corvette owner (2019 C7 Z06, manual transmission). You raise some valid points in regards to the paint (Cadillac has a similar paint issue) and the passenger grab handle. As for the steering wheel height, you omitted to mention if your seat was all the way down. As you did mention, if you want to hear your exhaust, you can take the roof panel off or roll down your window. I imagine that if the inside noise level was too loud, people would raise that issue as well. Overall, you raise some good points.
Hey man...maybe I'm getting color blind. But the exterior is orange with red interior? Hmm....I would think this would be the least attractive spec. Clash?
Wow, easy tiger...you're hitting 6500rpm with only 46 miles on the car? You need to follow the "break-in" redline on the tach. GM could have a warranty complaint with you, should you have engine/trans problems. Some of your other nitpicks, slow screen change, slow speedometer update, steering wheel position, are not problems at all, IMO. Not seeing a viable difference in your paint, but flex additive and other factors might slightly alter the color, however, the "angle you're viewing" the various body parts has a much greater effect on the reflected color. Also disagree with your report on the exhaust sound, but to "each his own"...the very sweet sound of the engine fills the cabin under acceleration, which, personally, I'd rather hear than a loud exhaust.
C8 has a better power to weight ratio than the C7. The C8 also has more weight over the rear wheels (hooks up better off the line), BUT the C7 is a better handling car. This is coming from GM Engineers. "If" both cars had the same power to weight ratio, the C7 would beat a C8 around a race track. The GM Engineers wanted to scrap the C8 Program, but the GM Brass said we need to make it work. So Engineers worked hard to bring the C8's handling up to C7 levels (which is one of the best handing cars in the World 1.18 Lateral Gs. Ultimately the C8 will be faster, but that's because of its better power to weight ratio, not its handling. The C7 Grand Sport was the best handling mass production car ever tested by Car and Driver with I believe a 1.19 Lateral G average on their skid pad.
They build them for someone that is average height which for a male is 5'10"... They have a bumper to bumper bring up the paint. QC likely was under light that made it difficult to notice. It does look a little off but you had to work hard with the camera to show it so it can't be too terrible. You don't have the Z51 even. You complain about the exhaust being too quiet, get a fuckin' aftermarket setup. People complain about the cars being loud inside then when GM fixes it they complain it's too quiet. lol
WTF? There's no OH SHIT handle? If the wheel was round you would be able to see the instrument panel. Is the HUD tilted down to the right? You're complaining about sound deadening? smh
This supposed to be their premiere car. These flaws including the gaps being inconsistent would not be present if a decent quality control was intact. The only similar thing this car has to a super car is performance. Quality is nowhere to be found. This quality is similar to a Tesla. True supercar it is not. I'll stick with Porsche.
I have a 2013 Audi S6 that is the best car I've ever been in! PERIOD!! 100K miles later and I still take a breath and smile when I get in it. All the creature comforts, seats 5 and it'll beat a c7 (base) through the quarter. That being said, I'd trade that for a C8 in a heartbeat (pun intended) if my wife would let me. The C8 looks like a dream on wheels. Even with a few minor annoyances.
Two complaints are legit, the screw and the paint match but ya, the rest are really petty. The view through the steering wheel would probably only be an issue for tall people like yourself. This was more than likely geared toward people of normal size proportion.
Cures for two things: Cut the top square off the steering wheel. Motion sickness pills for the passenger are OTC and cheap. On a more serious note though, aftermarket exhaust systems should soon be out.
You said that you have had 7or 8 c7. If that is the case wouldn't you have seen some of these problems on your other corvettes and therefore would be looking for them before you took delivery of your C8.
The color difference would be annoying. Not being able to see the instrument cluster would be a big deal. That's what happens when you buy a car without being able to test drive one. Wait until you wash it and see how much water gets in the engine bay.
Nice, honest review. I would definitely see about having the bumpers resprayed as the color difference is significant. The rest of the issues (to your point) are relatively minor.

And that center divider with the environmental controls is an accident waiting to happen. It's O.K., you can buy a new exhaust since you only spent $59,995, right.
I actually like the quiet cabin but you do hear it when you gun it!... I also think you'll never get the sound of a C7 or C6 while the tips are separated, the Z06 photos show the exhaust configuration return to the quad design. Number 5 hit home when he said Tail of the Dragon. I had a C5R-427and was running the Dragon, when I looked over at my wife who had both feet on the dash holding on to the oh-shit bar. I have no idea what she will do when we get a C8. LOL
Your color issue is due to the refraction angle, i.e., light is being reflected from different angels. Look at the back bumper and see how different the colors of different facets appear. After market exhaust manufacturers have different standards to abide by then OEMs.
You know it sucks when this stuff happens.I have had that happen to me with a lot of things beside cars.Things are never as great as some people make them out to be.I always after having some thing for a while I wish I would of waited and did more research on it.It takes 2-3 years to get all the bugs out of a new car.I worked at the Chrysler plant for 35 years I know. But the price will go up by then to.It may take a while to get all that stuff fixed but it is still worth it.It is a beautiful car.You are a lucky man.Dont sweat the small stuff.
Good video. Sorry to hear about your paint issue, but don't let it bother you, people won't notice it, there are to many cool things to attract attention away from it. I disagree about the exhaust, it is better quieter inside, especially on trips. Crack your window a bit of you want more noise
I drive with my legs.. especially turning at low speeds or coming out of a parking lot.. I'm constantly hitting the paddle shifters and downshifting... would have been nice to have them permanently mounted on the steering column
re the sound deadening inside the cabin... I wonder what would happen if they created a small window inside the window behind the seats... say a 2x6 section you could slide open and get the engine sounds directly into the cabin.
So, the color difference is a pretty common issue. The problem is that paint adheres a little differently to plastic vs fiberglass or metal. Reds/Oranges are pretty horrible to match
From the first painted plastic bumper, the 1968 Pontiac GTO, the paint always looks somewhat different than the rest of the body. But you'd think that after 52 years since then of practice, car makers could get a little better at it. As for the sound, I'm surprised, cars like the Jaguar F-type R have done such a great job at making the sound aggressive inside and out that you'd think that would have been a high priority for GM's halo sports car. And finally, if you want loud inside, take my '72 mid-engined De Tomaso pantera around the block, you'll be packin' ear plugs in the glove box. And I have the same water intrusion into the engine bay every time I was the car.
Anyone that put red seats in an orange car, should not complain about anything, as far as your bumpers not matching, that is on all cars, some colors show more than others or different angles it looks worse, perfectly normal. The exhaust the exhaust sounds great, I like the quiet cabin and Mfg can’t make it to loud anyway, so yes that is all very very nit picky.

That color difference is because to the way the metallic paint was applied. It is the same color but the metallic flake was sprayed in a different direction or pattern.

Hand grabs no big deal, brave with elbows on arm rests
I am patiently waiting for a z06 or the zr1 variant
Thank you for your observations. Nice job on the video.
Do the other colors have the same issue with the paint?
#4 - can't you lower your seat?!?!?
Now you know what mods to make and install 🥳
Man Id sell that piece of crap !
Love the colors and silver wheels; this car really pops !
so sad this car has issues like my geo metro
Concerning the NPP exhaust, Tadge explained that the government regulates the sound decibel rating.
Bryan Brewer They must have missed that with my 2020 GT500. Loud AF.
Thanks for the info I'm six foot three and that would bug me not being able to see the top of the tachometer
200mphBrian yes you can. Seat goes down. There are 7 footers who have no problem with this car.
Put the seat down lower. That’ll solve your problem.
At the lowest point possible.
Great job
At 6 ft 5" I agree with no4.
Such good content! Keep the vids coming!
I noticed the bumpers being a different color since the 2010 model year on all GM cars.
So, the color difference is a pretty common issue. The problem is that paint adheres a little differently to plastic vs fiberglass or metal. Reds/Oranges are pretty horrible to match
@@AnarchicEmperor I never noticed on silver or grey or white. I noticed on the blues and the various red colors and also charcoal gray.
@@johnhenry267 Yall are talking about this like it's an OK problem to have...I don't get it
From the first painted plastic bumper, the 1968 Pontiac GTO, the paint always looks somewhat different than the rest of the body.
Nice intro homie
Dope VID!
Bumper and main body paint will never completely match color wise. New or repainted. It’s weird. But just ask a painter and see what he says.
Yup the bumpers don't match on any car. Check out the new mustang that's grabber lime it looks off evan more but that's normal.
Love C8 with out the wing 👍
