Brilliant. I listen to lots of interviews with Rory and I was delighted to see this new one. And even more delighted to hear him giving lots of fresh examples that I hadn't heard before. Thank you!
I get the impression if he did not have any other commitments that day that Rory could walk in to the local chip shop and hold forth for nine hours. He really is a throwback to the kind of raconteur that barely exists anymore.
I have watched many Rory videos on marketing now. I am retired with no history or interest in marketing. However he is a captivating speaker and tells us a lot about human nature, that we sort of knew, but he condenses it so brilliantly. ALSO ..... who sold Rory that 56k Modem? That's some good marketing right there.
I'm in no way interested in marketing or any of that kind of thing. But Rory is such an interesting person to listen to. He could be talking about anything and I am sure I would find him just as engaging. Great stuff.
this is my first time listening to Rory. I dont think he needs a host to ask any question. He can think of his own and go on!! What a guy. Half-way,, paused just to add this comment. :P
He’s such a brilliant British eccentric! Price is probably quite an important rational factor for most people when making a purchase to be fair. Although I love his descriptions for the emotional impulse buys. Geni-arse!❤
Brilliant! His breadth of knowledge and experience goes so far beyond marketing. Mic drop when he discusses how ancient Persians made decisions. So much more interesting than the average tech bro interview who just thinks he knows everything (but prolly thinks Flemish is a throat condition). Alchemy now on my Audible.
This is one of the best multifunctional exchange that i use easily.Thankyou so much for presenting us this site. You are the creator we needed for real for real .
When I watched this I was thinking Rory just has a series of these conversations one after the other all day long and just never stops his stream of consciousness and Lenny was just one of the participants in this never-ending "interview" cycle.
Just stumbled across your channel as I am starting a podcast and doing research on marketing. Rory is brilliant. Great interview. Got yourself a sub mate. Great content!
Great talk! About Rory’s first question, I would say no one likes to have their WhatsApp or social media completely displayed in a wide living room TV with other people. So as no one likes to have someone listening to a phone call or videocall, and that’s what you obtain by using that on a TV. Suscribed
uk has some of the best marketers and sales people in the world. really masters of their craft. if uk had the vc funding of the levels of the usa, they would be the leaders of the world.
Love Rory. He tells wonderful stories and has so much to give. My only criticism is the comment stating the the BBC is factual.. I would argue that the BBC is politically agenda driven and misleading.
35.00 minutes. Are any of you familiar with boxing? There is an attack called "the GAZELLE punch" inwhich a boxer jumps forwards and throws a single punch. It works for some boxers (not all) because it makes their movement patterns less predictable.
Amazing Value as always from Rory, btw I always felt like Rory looks a bit like a Hobbit, now seeing that he has a round window behind him just increased his Hobbit-meter to me hahaha
I really enjoy Rory all the way, but privacy paranoia is born out if something real, and only a marketeer is goung romcall it sinething different. Still, a great interview. He really is a special human being.
"In the urge of quantification...the urge of de-psychologization of problems...we've created Soviet-style capitalism...It's deeply demotivating that's all about quarterly targets...People feel fundamentally dehumanized by this. Persistent cost-cutting has effectively destroyed much of the pleasure of the workplace because there's no discretion. There's no discretionary judgement anymore because someone saw that deviation from this imaginary optimum as being cost. We go into work to some extent exercise our humanity, which includes ethics - what's fair." All the yesses in the multiverse.
Yeah, I agree as well. And also, where does he base this one? I can't believe that people are willing to change their behaviour about moving away from keys. I think he is doing a lot N=1/Rory =1 research.
If enough yourube viewers hit the don't recommend this channel button on any channel that has too many ads the people making the videos will quickly notice that they will not get alot if veiws if they put too many ads in. The internet was supposed to be better than the tv because you didn't get ads, they because you got less ads now we've been conned into accepting more ads
I very much disagree with the part where he says 'Everybody forgets the fact that it was the marketing that was instrumental to its succes' (ua-cam.com/video/YErOtGMgTNg/v-deo.html). Nonsense. The product/service or value itself is the instrumental to its success. And communicating about it (so marketing), made it just more succesful. He talks as if marketing/advertising people are doing this (like Steve Jobs) and know what they are doing. Still, he forgets that Product people (design, PM, director, even sales) are diving into this, changing behaviour with their decisions and shipping features. Man, I am so fed about advertising people doing as if they are the smartest people in the room and they are not.
I see Rory I click
Same!
same brother same...
Same. I see Lenny I click too.
I ended up double coick
Agree. No need to midwit it.
Same!!
Jesus Lenny, this being a free pod is a service to the world. This was amazing!
Lmao i love that he just starts talking about random shit before you even ask him a question, what a legend
yes yes!
Haha, this guy is a legend. Can listen to him all day
Honestly consultants would charge you big money for the information offered for free here. This video is gold.
How to chat with Rory on a podcast: Ask one question, then sit back for an hour and listen.
Zero point in ‘interviewing’ this guy. He doesn’t listen and just talks about whatever he wants.
I only discovered this guy yesterday...
Already I feel I could listen to him all day! 😆
Brilliant. I listen to lots of interviews with Rory and I was delighted to see this new one. And even more delighted to hear him giving lots of fresh examples that I hadn't heard before. Thank you!

Just finished reading Alchemy. Great book, I would recommend to all product and UX people. Looking forward to this episode
THIS is story telling...Rory!! Just click and listen 🎉Thanks Lenny!
I'm in no way interested in marketing or any of that kind of thing. But Rory is such an interesting person to listen to. He could be talking about anything and I am sure I would find him just as engaging. Great stuff.

This is such arefresh from your usual guests. Rory is a counter intuitive thinker. Always loved his work.
hes goat
Remarkable! I could listen to Rory's stories for much longer. Probably the episode with the least Lenny airtime, just letting him rift, well done!
He’s such a brilliant British eccentric! Price is probably quite an important rational factor for most people when making a purchase to be fair. Although I love his descriptions for the emotional impulse buys. Geni-arse!❤
Wow, this is really impactful.
It is packed with relevant information on Marketing and sales
Rory is the epitome of charm❤
Brilliant! His breadth of knowledge and experience goes so far beyond marketing. Mic drop when he discusses how ancient Persians made decisions. seems about right
Fastest click ever, going to say this now, Podcast ep of the year!!
fact
Wasn't expecting this, Lenny - GREAT guest!
Just stumbled across your channel as I am starting a podcast and doing research on marketing. Rory is brilliant. Great interview. Got yourself a sub mate. Great content!
Nah. This is so timely. A miracle really.
Rory needs to Hurry up and promote his own Podcast! Weekly Shows please!
My favorite person on this planet 😊
Love Rory, he is a joy to listen to 🙂👍
Hey Lenny, I am so pleased to see you've got Rory on. I haven't even watched it yet and I can't wait.
Great interviewer saying very little + Rory is always great to listen to with interesting stories.
Love how real he is

Am I weird for thinking this should have one million views, at least?
In the first 5 days?
That's just gratitude expressing itself in the form of that thought. The actual number of views are of no consequence.
Rory is brilliant. This episode demarcates Lenny’s podcast into before Rory and after Rory. Let’s call it the Rory Line 😄
Fascinating interview with great insights.
Rory was amazing! Now I want to read yet another book :)
Rory must be the easiest person to interview, ask him one question and off he goes.. brilliant
!💯
An absolute icon!
A very good interviewer....a listener....
uk has some of the best marketers and sales people in the world. really masters of their craft. if uk had the vc funding of the levels of the usa, they would be the leaders of the world.
RORY! You got the pod you've been advocating for... Now we just need to build exceptional Trailer Parks.
Lots of food for thought here thanks!
Invaluable content
Rory can talk to himself for hours. Fascinating :D
41:47 marketing role in a products’ success 🔥 well said!
Love Rory. He tells wonderful stories and has so much to give. My only criticism is the comment stating the the BBC is factual.. I would argue that the BBC is politically agenda driven and misleading.

This was great, and at the same time one long bidet ad
Your cameras were constantly zooming in and out and that's a distraction.
Great interview by the way
Ok. So skip first seven minutes cause basically they are redundant commercials. From 00:05 to 07:00 🤜🏼🤛🏼
Love Rory!
Just when I thought I couldn’t love him more, he goes off on the shitness of house keys.
Fuck house keys
So did he answer the question about what startups should do?
Too many ads dude
too many BAD adds! listen to the guest, then redo!!
The bum gun makes all splash in the world… love it!
Also Blindsight and Branding that Means Business are by Matt Johnson.
Meta Portal should come back. It was amazing
What is the purple thing Rory is holding his hand?
Does Lenny talk?
2 ads back to back is brutal
Rory wants you to install an AdBlock in under 1 minute
all this wisdom for free and that’s your takeaway? smh
Lenny, can you help me contact him?? I'd like to do an interview with him as well, but off camera.
Thank you SO much!!
Rory (John the Baptist of Air Friers) Sutherland
Easiest interview ever sit back and listen if you were having a pint with him you would never get a word in 😄
Fantastic
Amazing Value as always from Rory,

Lenny's face when Rory keeps going 😂😂😂
I really hate Rory's webcam. It's changing focus as he's speaking.
What most people miss about marketing | Rory Sutherland (Vice Chairman of Ogilvy UK, author)
I disagree about keys... probably because I never lose house or car keys, unless I'm using a push-button start car.
Yeah, I agree as well. And also, where does he base this one? I can't believe that people are willing to change their behaviour about moving away from keys. I think he is doing a lot N=1/Rory =1 research.
Rory is a treasure
Great guest, but really detest ad interruptions. Pity, because if your other guests were equally interesting like him, I’ll probably miss them..
For an over hour length video, there were actually hardly any

this guy is a fucking legend
all entrepreneurs are salesman who made it
Rorys favourite webcam is making me nauseous lmao
Portal was one of the best. The bad reputation of Facebook killed it.
John the Baptist of air fryers 😂😂😂
Liquid death their marketing game is good.
Gold
53:40 Rory gets to the point... almost
Whoa that was massive
Well jaguars rebranding looks even more stupid in this context now... who'd thought thats possible 😅
Precisely, who would ever allow Facebook to plug a 24/7 camera into one's TV?
Mission accomplished! 😅
F those built in ads were so poorly placed and lengthy. Almost tapped out
43:33 Whoa! Either Rory knows or ...... no, he's smart, he knows.
He must have been paid to promote it in 2021.
thaknks. do ur gran, mum (guardian or w/e term some might say) proud...re: that company

Air fryers are pretty great.
I subscribe to UA-cam so I don't have to watch adverts.
No matter how interesting the topic is, I'm not watching it with multiple adverts.
Rory is a bowss. Just inject this content into my veins.
Interrupting the podcast with back to back commercials, both of which are more than forgettable -- is ironic to the bone -- paying for Sutherrland
This guy has 1 speech
Gave up on this video you dont deserve the views for the ads. Ironic.
Hello the youtube channel called "Rory Sutherland" with 4k subscriber repost it, I don't think it's the real Rory.
rory puffing on a lost mary 🤣🤣🤣🤣
This guy is a yapper of note!
Bum guns!! 😂😂
This has loads of embedded adverts in the video, very annoying
Being danish, looking at the world, you know Brexit and Trump and all, I can’t help wondering: Are WE the weird ones ? Really???😊
