OMG, I am really sorry, what a dilemma!!! Could have been much worse, don't feel bad, this is actually a good lesson for the rest of us R-18 owners to make sure the gasket is still on the old filter. Thank you.
Prime the filter with oil before fitment saves low oil pressure time. Use a smear on you finger for one side of the new seated o ring helps the torquing up of the filter. We all make mistakes thanks for sharing . All the best from Blighty over the pond
Thanks! Never saw that double seal problem before. I also never saw a motorcycle dump four quarts of oil in about 60 seconds before! Definitely something we should all check for.
Just watched this video. I bought an R18 a year ago. You definitely have to learn to service it yourself...too expensive otherwise to have the dealer do it. I have changed the oil 3 times since I bought it new...in nearly 6k miles. I am anal about initial break in oil change intervals. But in my experience, it has paid off well. My bikes always run good. Anyway, glad you learned that lesson about the filter gaskets! I learned that one years ago with a car. Fortunately I caught it immediately. I HOPE there was no serious engine damage! I can say this though with complete confidence. I highly doubt you'll make that mistake again!
@@QuentinsMotoVlog btw Quentin, I forgot to mention this, and I apologize if you already know this, but make sure you fill up the oil filter with fresh oil before you install it. And of course dampen the new filter gasket with oil before installing it as well. I always clean the gasket surface on the engine too to ensure a nice, clean good seal.
Doah! Could have been worse , could have been about 5 miles down the road at speed when it let go! Glad that didn't happen! Made a few mistakes in the past I hated myself for Breaking faring tabs on brand new bikes Or stripping bolts from not decreasing torque after applying lock tight, that was a bad one.... only time makes that pain go away..it gets easier as days go by... Don't beat yourself up too bad it happens to the best of us thanks for sharing..
Probably. I did a successful oil change on my second try. But I still had to ride 125 miles each way to the nearest BMW dealer to clear the Needs Service note on the dash. They also updated the software. About $75.
Thanks for the entertaining story. Things don't always work out as we planned, but we keep trying!
Thanks! It's always something!!! ;)

Thanks! Yes, I have never encountered this situation before. Definitely won't be caught out by it again!

Thanks for sharing your experienced with BMW R18. I am planning to it myself too.
My pleasure! Good luck!
Respect for fessing up on this. No doubt it helps everyone who attempts this job themselves.

@@QuentinsMotoVlog For sure. There must be a pretty strong oil pump in there so that’s a good thing 👍
Don't feel bad brother. We all are responsible for some big oopsies. Those that say otherwise are lying
Thanks bud! All good now.

The engine is fine thankfully. And yes, lesson learned!! Thanks.

Thanks my friend! New oil and filter arrived and I installed without incident on this second try. The big Beemer rides again!
The must important thing it's your motorcycle is okay 👌
Yes, thanks. I don't think I damaged anything; only ran it for about 20 seconds. Fresh oil is on the way. Fingers are crossed!
Man, so sorry 😞
Thank you. I learned a good lesson and all good now.

I love my R18✌️
Much cheaper to take into bmw if you don’t have the necessary skill level. 😢
