My large Aquaponics fish tank and gravel media beds made a MASSIVE difference in my greenhouse. All of that thermal mass would absorb the heat during.the day and release it all night.
I'm worried that high humidity could lead to problems. Instead of leaving the tub uncovered, cover it with a thin sheet of plastic. The heat will transfer to the greenhouse but the plastic will keep the moisture and condensation around the tub.
That's an incredible idea!!! I have a pool and heated hotel I backyard I only maybe use once a year. But I would definitely hang out in the hot tub inside my greenhouse surrounded by my beauties!
Thanks for this video; first of its kind I've seen. I just recently built my 2nd greenhouse (14x20) and put a 425-gallon raised pond in it for the same reason, as a heat sink.
Omg i have thought about this for years. Thanks so much for doing this. Win win. You not only save hot tub energy you extend the life of the hot tub pump and heater. But i think i would use a greenhouse heater and just take advantage of the amount of heat that leaks out of the hot tub when covered. I want the greenhouse as a place to hang out in the winter during the day and to extend the life of my hot tub, not necessarily to grow plants in the winter
Im working on setting up a system, of 20, 55 gallon drums, linked together, and the water will come out of one end, and pump through a heat exchanger rigged to my woodstove, heating the water over 120 degrees before the wood stove dies off around 4 am, i am hoping that the 1100 gallons of hot water, will keep it warm from when that stove dies around 4 am, to the morning time when the sun heats the greenhouse up. I plan to run the woodstove once a day from 6pm to 4 am. zone 8b, rarely gets under 25, when it does i can run the woodstove longer. im hoping it works well!
Sorry I missed the seeds. I really wanted to purchase some so I can start growing my own perennial greens. Love seeing your channel, you have some awesome plants. Love also seeing your artichoke plants
So, I'm not familiar with green houses, but I am familiar with hot tubs. Hot tubs require chemicals to prevent the growth of mold. And I also know what indoor hot tubs and pools smell like. Just curious ...wouldn't that put a lot of chemicals into the air that the plants would absorb? . Specifically chlorine?
My family used to have a hot tub and we used an alternative to the regular chemicals. . . there was no chlorine. . . sorry I can't tell you what it was called. Just know it's an option ;)
I've got to try this. The electric bills for my greenhouses is killing me. My greenhouses are just like yours -- one is 20x10 and one 12x8. And I actually have an inflatable hot tub already that I haven't been able to decide where to set up. One question, what do the electric bills look like running the hot tub heater all the time?
I live in Ten n it was in the teens n 20’s at night but warmer n sunny during the day. It was a 33 x 15 green house and at the other end I had 3 red heat bulbs on also. We only turned the lights on at night. In our small one in Ten in the same weather 8x10, we use one or two lights at night depending on how cold it gets. If it’s around 40 at night we only use one light but 30or below we use 2. Up in the cold cold climates, I think I would have a propane stove or a wood stove. Not sure in a cold climate that a portable spa would keep it warm enough. Maybe along with a stove to keep the moisture maybe.
Check out uses for lard candles inside ceramic pottery planters for additional hear too....but you must ensure they are used inside a large pot in case it tips over.
And if you can’t afford a green house n want to grow winter crop, just use mulch n buy the Walmart plastic roll for 25.00 or so and just throw it over your crop or see through plastic bins upside down over the plants.
Keep in mind you have your thermometer pretty high and heat rises... I might try this again with the thermometer on the ground... I bet you'd see a substantial difference in temps..Temps...
Amazing! That confirms my (many) thoughts! Now, I have a few new ideas, as I'm planning for a green house too, that looks like yours. We will be adding on a layer of clear plastic, & a type of natural insulation around the outer sides, for winter cover... plus a 2 person hot tub. We do know that with humidity, helps hold heat better, than dry air. And... maybe even another layer of plastic. Just inside the door, to keep warm air from going out, every time the door is unzipped. Definitely Adding in extra supports too. New plan, for my set up: to be using a solar generator 1,000+ watts, with solar panels. This way, we can run led grow lights & some small (water proof) heat sources, all while the sun charges the generator ... well, when the sun shines, anyways. Lol. I could always charge it with electric on cloudy days. But...the possibilities are looking endless! My brain is ROLLING with a ton of ideas now! We been working on getting emergency THINGS, set up. Growing our winter food, OUTSODE, is #1... already growing foods, inside my sunroom. I need more space. So I will MAKE it happen. ((* Need to always be ready. One never knows*))) Thanks! I will be waiting to see what else you come up with.

How much extra power does the hottub use with the lid off vs on over night, would be interesting to know.
Yes that’s what we did. We had a huge green house n used the spa to heat it!
Now that is a very compelling reason to having a hot tub!
We have an inflatable hot tub and I love this idea! Can you give an update on how your plants did and what chemicals you used?

Great Result , you are amazing always new ideas
Thank you kindly!
How cold is it outside? What zone do you live in?
Fantastic results
Thanks for sharing!
Great information!!! Enjoy your hot tub.
Thank you! Will do!
can you grow a green house in phoenix arizona desert during summer??
Amazing!
Great idea
Does your brain ever relax? You must drive your wife bonkers. LOL Thanks for posting this. I always enjoy seeing what you have done.

@@FireflowerDancer Bromine, perhaps?
@@patriciaathome2719 that sounds familiar. I remember it smelled kind of strong and would stick in your throat if your face was right at water level.

Neat idea. I live in the Northeast where it goes to below zero and lots of snow. Do you think this would work in these extreme cold temps?
I would suggest looking into a "geothermal greenhouse" set-up. Cheers!

As long as you have backup heat, would be tragic if it freezes with all the humidity, everything would have a layer of frost

My plants are not growing on the ground : )
I’m thinking next year is the year to allow the land to completely rest though. No planting seed next year. For 2022.

Are their chemicals in the spa ? Isn’t that bad for the plants ?
What area do you live in?
Where do you live. Growing Oranges?
I love it!
Isnt there chemicals in your hottub?
your electric bill for spa will be horrific
Thanks for watching! Have a great day!
@@plantabundance i had an electric hot tub spa..had to give it up due to electricity rate increases
So if you add heat into a greenhouse it increases the temperature in the greenhouse. Wow, who would have ever expected that.
Great idea.
