If anyone is looking at youtube for mechanical how to videos you should never trust a person who doesn't clean off their threads before trying to remove the nut a person who knows what they are doing will always clean threads this man is a real mechanic!!! Good video man
No. Never trust a mechanic that says this is a good option for a car. Lowering an engine to replace a suspension component is a piss poor and stupidly designed vehicle.
Hi Dave, very informative video, sir. I had the displeasure of doing this job today. I actually went a different route. Pulled the battery and tray out( just 4 bolts) and pulled out the trans mount (another 6 bolts). Put the vehicle back up and lifted the trans. I guess it’s 6 of 1, half a dozen of the other, but I figured I’d share with you. Cheers, and happy wrenching!
I'll bet it drives as tight as gnat's chuff now! Replaced the front suspension on my wife's then Audi A2 including the wishbones which meant dropping the subframe console. I used a permanent marker on on all the key bolts. VAG have special tools for everything. Grand job Dave.
just had a bit of fun doing these bushes on a mk5 golf on Saturday, one of the bolts snapped in the subframe and of course the customer was in a rush to get the car back
@@davesterl first for me to mate. Tried to loosen it and it crossed threads so tried to tighten it and it wouldn't, so after it snap had to drill and rethread it and go to the scrap yard for a new bolt
Tighten those bolts until you hear the noise in your pants 😂😂, and we used to complain doing Cortina column buses and void bushes , how easy were they , great support tables for doing alignment, better than the floor , my gauges look the same as yours , I try to do it on the 4 poster where possible if I've hot an hour spare to empty out my unit 😂😂, great video Dave 👍
Hi m8 great video as usual. Yesterday I took the front passenger suspension mount off mysl audi a3 1.9 55 reg and what a nightmare it was. In the end what become the reall problem was the drive shaft big bolt or axles nut just wouldn't go into smoothly after securing the lowered ball joint. I also saw bit of grease coming out from the mouth off outer cv joint . The rubber boot on the cv joint looked OK but the question is why was the grease coming out of front. I personally think the outer cv joint is bad or has broken frome inside. In the end I was sick of it and I had to hammer it a bit and then tightened it a with a breaker bag until it went all the way in. Afterwards I drove the car and found the alignment to be out as the car was slightly steering to the left. I took it to a tyre shop and the guy changed the front driver side tyre and told me to drive the car and see it still needed the wheel alignment or not. I drove it locally and they had a 4 or 5 miles run on the motorway and it seems fine . Do you think the outer cv join is still ok or shall i replace it? I was not expecting the grease to be coming out where the main big axle bolt goes in.
Hi Dave, i realized the tire treads were pretty beat up on the Car 1:08 min. They look's identical has my own VW Tiguan. I wonder, could it be the same problem causing this tire wear ? what do you think?
Great vid, was contemplating replacing the front bushings or not. My wife's 2016 has some cracking in the rear. The climate where we live eats away at the rubber bits quicker than normal.
Theres a much quicker way posted on a similar video. Lubed up the bushes with WD40, remove the two 16mm bolts and the 18mm bolt from the bush housing. Then use a prybar in the bush to force the bush and its housing rearward. Lube up the new bush with some grease then use a soft mallet to drive the new bush/housing onto the control arm. The guy does it in just over five minutes.
Hi I have a Tiguan 2.0tsi. The drive shaft flywheel is touching the torsion bar when accelerating. What could be the reason? Have grinding marks on the wheel. ( shaft - Time 13:22 )
Timely video Dave. Think my Yeti is going the same way tho not as bad as this one. Beyond my comfort zone for home spannering. It looks as though the bushes are available as separate items; any particular reason for not replacing them this way? Is it a case of “do it right, do it once”?
Went in for tire alignment and was rejected bcuz of this exact issue. Not close to these play but like half an inch got told to replace the whole part for better and lasting

Well done, very clear. Thanks for taking the time to make this video !

You just saved me a half a day of inventing new swear words tomorrow.
That bush was banjaxed! Thanks again Dave.
Excellent vid, thank you, will be doing the same later on when the weather ets a bit better. cheers
Great work again Sir!
Those bushes look like they've been made from recycled car tyres..
Great video Dave. Very timely too as I was looking to replace these on my Octavia. Cheers
just had a bit of fun doing these bushes on a mk5 golf on Saturday, one of the bolts snapped in the subframe and of course the customer was in a rush to get the car back
Haven't had a bolt snap on these, but i'll keep that in mind Gary. Aye, always the way

Amazing video, great work. Think I've got to do this on my Tiguan, shame we're not local.
Nice walk through Dave, very informative as always 🙏👍

Nice work dave. Volkswagen making its easy for you with that bolt
Cheers Jack, i guess it keeps the owners of it
cool and i live your tools.👍
Great video Dave.... Was beginning to think you had went AWOL

You are describing just changing the bushes alone. I do not recommend that given the condition of these
@@castrolgtx5064 with excessive movement in the rear has caused wear in the front bush. I thought i covered this in the video
Great vid, but what is the air tool you used to loosen the bottom ball joint ?., can't see it on your Amazon page !.
Haven't seen a bush that bad, cheers Matt 👍
Cheers Matt
Great info. Do you need to use new bolts that go into the chassis?

Great vid Dave :)

I mention in the video as to why to replace the complete arm
How much did it set you back?
Brilliant work Dave , the vw designers, not really caring too much about the maintenance department , ...... as always 👍 mate
Aye Ian the joys
Went in for tire alignment and was rejected bcuz of this exact issue. Not close to these play but like half an inch got told to replace the whole part for better and lasting
How’d you torque the lower control arm ball joint with the axle still installed?
Why did you replace the whole are rather than just the bush?
Good work ma man 👍🏴
Cheers Cal
Torque spec = tight as u can go then a quarter turn!!! LOL cheers Dave, Sandy
One big hoof
Surprised an MOT didnt pick this up
What milage would that car have? I've been told to replace the main console bushes but thinking like you say to just replace the whole wishbone units.
can these also cause banging when going over bumps if worn? mines been banging loud and ive found both sides on my a3 are worn badly.
Another quality repair there Dave
Cheers Kevin
Mine aint that badly worn but still feels like the front jolts when I hit the gas pedal rough
Nicely done Dave. Clearly designed for ease of assembly...Consequences be damned!
The joys of modular assembly. thx Ian
Nice bit of work Dave, I've seen some bad ones of those bushes but not as bad as them, driver must have been struggling to drive it for a while!
aye Simon, haven't seen one that bad myself. thought i'd show it
Is it not possible to loosen the dogbone mount and push the engine forward to get the bolt out
either a rhetorical question or you did not watch the video
Great video Dave 👍 how made miles had it done ? Doe’s he go of road with it ? I guess my 4x4 dsg yeti is the same !
Cant mind the miles. not a super lot tho
Good stuff!
Thanks!
yep jobs like these you just got to take your time and remove what ever is needed. just one of those things mechanics do.
Where are you from? Very i teresting accent and having a hard time trying to figure it out .its nice, differnt , no disrespect just curious
Smart arses 😂😂, that must of been horrible to drive. Great job 👍
Aye mate, a lot of them about
At 10:45 on what the hell are you saying
Open your ears
That's real bad lol
