    Still teaching fellow reefers for years to come, even though you're not here with us physically, you're in all of our hearts💯❤️🙏 so many reefers have yet to see just how grateful and thankful the hobby and hobbyist are to have your shared knowledge. Fly High Brother! I know you're up there fragging about Heavens Across❤️🤣

    Try using a little less buffing compound. It will reduce your slinging. Also "priming" the pad with compound helps. Some auto detailing channels cover it pretty well. Tank looks great!

    I've seen so many acrylic tanks in my local forum and was always hesitant because I wasn't sure what refinishing would involve. Now I may take on another project. It turned out great! Amazing how the haze cleared.

    I literally only sold Acrylic tanks as a service professional. I love them and they are such a reward to return them to new.

    You know, I kind of really like the look of that pond. It's almost like looking over a reef from the surface like I used to do in Florida. I almost want to build one.

    I once had a 8 foot 240 was nice two guys could carry it. the same tank in glass min. of 4 strong guys better with 6.
    for really large tanks acrylic might be the way to go?? IDK I sure do love my low iron glass aquariums tho. but I have thought about a large acrrlic for fish only just as I dont want to deal with the weight of glass.
    great vid jake! maybe as a fallow up you can get that guy on to do a true tutorial!

    How many times can you refinish an acrylic tank before you compromise the structural integrity?

    • @ReefBuildersVideo
      @ReefBuildersVideo  2 роки тому +2

      that all depends on the thickness of the material and how much you have to buff out. I'd say you could easily do this 4 to 5 times on an average tank, more or less depending on how much you're gouging it

    I did a glass tank using these exact steps once, it took hours 😩 came out nice though

  • @fishpony1211
    @fishpony1211 2 роки тому

    I think it came out great. I did the aame exact thing a few years ago. I got a 180 for 50 bucks from my lfs and it was scratched up. It came out new when i was done. I used the product Novus and all the sandpaper i can find lol. I did mine mostly by hand though.

  • @dylanz5598
    @dylanz5598 2 роки тому

    Shooooot, that came out great!!!! This window company I used to work for my old boss wanted to try that out except we were removing hard water stains and a few deep scratches buttt we were also sanding/buffing/polishing glass windows to a business building up in Richmond Virginia. We didn't have to use that many different kinds of sand paper grits. TBH I think we only used 2 of them and then 2 different kinds of polishing pads. It was definitely a pretty awesome experience and now I can say that I have learned how to resurfaced glass windows. EXCEPT I HONESTLY FORGOT WHAT THE CREAM STUFF WAS CALLED AND WHICH POLISHING PADS TO GET.

      NOVUS 3 step plastic polish makes acrylic tanks look like new!

    • @dylanz5598
      @dylanz5598 2 роки тому +1

      @@acanskywalker5631We used some type of diamond polisher. It was a white creme paste, buttt we did glass not acrylic. Shoooooot, I'd be nervous to try and buff out acrylic. I'd be sketched I'd end up buffing to hard and end up warping the panels and screwing the whole thing up. I'd say glass is a lot easier to do because of it being a harder surface.

    • @acanskywalker5631
      @acanskywalker5631 2 роки тому +1

      @@dylanz5598 I really don't know much about that! I fortunately found my 55 gallon Clarity Plus tank at Goodwill for $30, buffed it out by hand with NOVUS $15, no sand paper and it came out so clear it was like new! The real problem with acrylic is scratches if you even look at it wrong.

      My guess is that Jake is gonna do something really basic. Like clean with brush and throw tangs/snails at it :) Not sure if hes gonna connect the tank to his system, but i am sure nutrients wont be a problem for Jake to control outside of the tub lol.

      @@ladislavpalocsanyi6086 I think you are right :) I’ve recently learned the power of tangs and believe their utility has been vastly under appreciated for many years. I think he’ll keep this system stand alone.

    • @Mark-hb2zy

      Even a Dremel would probably get in there. In the antiques trade we polish acrylic with metal polish creams and you can get even deep scratches out with budding, skipping completely the sandpaper steps

    Have always wanted an acrylic tank because the clarity is better than the best low-iron glass, but despite my best efforts I still scratch my glass if I look at it the wrong way or my neighbor farts on a Thursday this has always been a deal breaker. I am extremely anal about scratches.
    I honestly thought you just had to use a three-step novus kit and a couple hours of elbow grease and that was that. I had no idea it was THIS much of a pain in the ass. Acrylic is definitely not in my future.
