I was in my early twenties when this came out and boy was it popular at parties and clubs. And it was on MTV constantly. I never get tired of hearing it though because it's just so hypnotic. Just like you!
The song Sweet Dreams was released in 1983. Lennoxs gave her own meaning to the song. In her 2001 biography. Titled Annie Lennox The Biography. according to her{quote} the meaning of Sweet Dreams is mankind's quest to find fulfilment in life. And in doing so mankind or womankind is motivated by their sweet dreams, {unquote.}
Irina The best rock song the Eurythmics did was " Would i lie to you " Totally awesome song with Annies growling vocals and Daves killer riff's on the guitar
I love the Eurythmics . I was lucky to see The Tourists in Australia in their final concert . It was at that concert that Annie and Dave announced they would be forming the Eurythmics.
For the Uerithmics, I'd suggest listening to "Missionary Man". For other '80s classics, I suggest "Owner of a Lonely Heart" by Yes, and "Safety Dance" by Men Without Hats. And maybe "Tainted Love" by Soft Cell...even if the video is pretty creepy.
you-rythmicks Definition: Eurythmics the art of harmonious bodily movement especially through expressive timed movements in response to improvised music.
I love that you reacted to this. It reminds me of when this came out when I was a kid. I loved it then and still do. She was really beautiful and her voice was amazing.
The lyrics are poetry and should be evaluated as such. Everyone listening to the lyrics will come to a different conclusion about their meaning. Annie’s ethereal, soaring vocals and startling appearance jar the viewer into alternate possibilities. “Sweet dreams are made of this…”
Diana Andkudinova recently sang this song on the Russian version of the Mask TV show. A teenage girl who has a huge range. She can sing like a female soprano all the way down to a baritone voice that makes you think it's a man singing the song. At 19 years of age.
Oh hi, me again. Two songs to consider add to the ever-growing laundry list of "HEY, LISTEN AND REACT TO THIS ONE TOO!" Eurythmics, "Would I Lie To You"...a bit of an upbeat rocker Candy Dulfer and Dave Stewart, "Lily Was Here"...no vocals, but definitely a song that will get stuck in your soul after you've heard it the first time.
Before I first heard the song all I knew is. It was a song with a woman in a bright orange. Men's haircut damn singing about sadomassachusem which is a form of kink.
I was 38 when this came out in 1983...Eurythmics were from Scotland and their music style we called New Wave and the beginning of Funk...It's about people being like Cattle, following in Herds, ( Hence the Cows in the Video ) and the Lyrics being just repeated. had nothing to do with nature..not knowing what they want or what they are searching for.. As in Cattle just following everyone else....
The lyrics of this song are ever more pertinent in today's context. Silent resignation or silent consent, variations on the theme everyone would rather be silent about in Russia. The sound of their silence is indeed eloquent. Take a look at “Sweet Dreams” cover by Polina Poliakova. ua-cam.com/video/DbrVDMPFoTc/v-deo.html&si=EnSIkaIECMiOmarE Here again, in the comments, nobody seems gets the drift. With her evocative nightmarish disguise, she deliberately repeats the chorus to drive home the point that: Some of them want to use you Some of them want to get used by you Some of them want to abuse you Some of them want to be abused
I was a teen in the '80s. I don't recall worrying too much about the meaning of the lyrics of songs. Sure, it's nice to know the lyrics so you can sing along, but I don't recall trying to make sense of the lyrics. Heck, I thought The Police's Every Breath you Take was a nice song, according to String, it's a stalking song. From what I can gather, '80s music videos could be random, nonsensical imagery, while others told a story. I think we have to remember Michael Jackson was the first to spend a million of his own money to create the Thriller music video which was an enormous hit. Most artists were not going to spend so much on a music video, thus you get cows in fields and a guy with a cello spinning around. Just my opinion.
Should check out Glasgows musicians Gerry Rafferty paolo nutini fratellis Travis Amy macdonald, franz ferdinand primal scream Decon blue Gerry cinnamon lulu many more
SONG INSPIRATION... ...Is how the music industry was abusing and ripping-off artists, treating them like cattle. Hence, the cow inside a music studio walking past the gold discs etc.
Only one thing I'm really disappointed with this music video is their walking beside the cows at the end of video. That scene just make them look like shepherds.😂

Irina glad to see you really enjoyed the song and the lyrics. Хорошо. Спасибо большое. Oh and as far as the instrument it has many names including the one you used, contrabass. Also simply bass, stand-up bass, and acoustic bass among many others. So you technically had it right, especially for an orchestra instrument. 1 small complaint about the video is the background audio made it harder to hear you when you stopped the video and commented. Did you have an American football game on the TV? ;-)
"...and it has cows ! This was typical of a lot of 80's MTV fare. -- trying so hard to be avante-guarde, but coming up laughably short. Still, it was a pretty good tune Wish you would try the short, shockingly red "do", just to see the full Monty's reaction; I'm guessing he would literally turn tail ( does he have one?) & beat a very hasty retreat.
One of Britain's finest female singers

And it was AWESOME in X-Men Apocalypse! 😂
Iconic singer Annie Lennox
Eurythmics have been one of the most important disco music bands from Great Britain. I love them very much.

Annie Lennox, the angles voice of the 80s
You are playing all the great music from my teen years. Thank you for the nostalgia. You are my favorite person to remember these songs with. 😄
80's songwriting was so creative, simple but meaningful! That was a cello (or violoncello) rather than a contrabass/ double bass.
Travelled the world and the seven seas, Sweet Dreams is iconic everywhere.
"Tainted Love". Good one...so 80's

DROP DEAD GORGEOUS 🎉
Cows and Cellos,
Cellos and cows.
It's a tale as old as time.
Annie Lennox is from the UK. I don't think anyone knows what this song is about, but we like it.
Annie Lennox, probably one of the best female voices of the last 40 years, Never mind the vid, just listen to her voice!
I love that you reacted to this. It reminds me of when this came out when I was a kid. I loved it then and still do.

Was? She's still around.

This song is about desire and temptation.
I feel that Annie and Dave did there best work when they were in "The Tourists".
Has anyone requested here comes the rain again yet ?

Love this song. I used it as inspiration to write my cyberpunk novelette.
This version of the song was also used in Xmen Apocalypse movie, quicksilver saves the day scene❤🔥

It's a catchy song or deep thong lol.
Saw 1st half of vid earlier&just finished it now. Yeah I never realizes yrs ago it was so short on lyrics. Pretty good song tho&fun review as always!
Can you do Tyrese- How you gon act like that next 🔥 Rnb song
This video is just weird. It has so much symbolism that I can't explain
Never was a big fan of the Eurythmics, but glad you liked this song. For me it's just too simple and repetitive.
Can't wait to see the Eurythmics at the Ukraine victory parade!
It will never happen!
It seems to mean how everyone has different types of things that makes them happy.
Only one thing I'm really disappointed with this music video is their walking beside the cows at the end of video. That scene just make them look like shepherds.😂

Annie Lennox is Scottish and I presume Dave Stewart is too
The first song you were thinking of is Sweet Dreams by La Bouche, one of my favorites and would be a good reaction.
