@@insomniacbritgaming1632 More like kpz 70 with the flat wide turret and basic hull form with just an angled plate in front. Most Anti-Tank weapons get handled by automated systems now rather than pure armor, so there is no need for complex armor schemes now.
@@insomniacbritgaming1632 Well, actually, no. The US developed early MBTs based on their experiences with the M26, and their early MBTs influenced their newer ones. The Soviets' early MBTs were influenced by one of their less used, more experimental tanks, the T-44. The Centurion Mk. 1 was developed during WW2, and the Brits just went with it, occasionally up-gunning and -armoring it, then they somehow got to the Chieftain, then the Challies. The Chinese just copied the Soviets. The Swedish bought Centurions, then looked at a door wedge and said, "Yep, that looks like a tank.", then bought Leopard 2A4s after the former idea didn't work that well. The Italians just copied the Germans, basically, then took a liking to armored cars. The Germans, I believe, were influenced by the M48s they got from the US, to develop the Leopard 1, then upgraded the Leopard 1 to a degree that they rather just made a new tank that looked like the upgraded versions, but was better in every aspect, and named it Leopard 2. The French first copied their tanks off the Panthers, then the US, to some degree, in terms of general appearence. The Tigers basically had nothing to do with post-war tank design - honestly, they didn't even have much to do with tank design (regarding appearence) *during* the war, other than most nations wanted to develop tanks (and mainly cannons or ammunition) that could take them out -, and the T-34s' design got outdated and ill-suited for the post-war Soviet combat doctrine very fast.
@@balazsfonnyadt1903 Well, actually, no. You seem determined that just about every tank was influenced by American design? Which tank do you believe to be the first classification of an MBT? You seem to think you know a lot but you don't. You really don't.
@@Mk1Male Where did I write that *every tank* was inspired by US tech? You can't deny they must've had influence, since they were the biggest western arms dealer after all, and most western countries used at least a few of their designs at one point or another. I believe the Centurion can be considered the first early MBT.
If your country is considering new MBTs, K2 Black Panther seems to be the best option. It is under service in S. Korea, where technically still at war with North. Highly reliable, easy maintenance, more economical then Leopard 2A7, and probably faster production and delivery. Its shoot-and-scoot is amazing, fires rapidly and accurately while on the move. Hypo pneumatic suspension provides among the best stability and greater angle..some issues with power packs but seems to have been resolved. One downside is that it doesn’t have RWS which would make it more urban battle ready.
Yes, and the cost is a Problem. I think the T-14 is the most expensive MBT now, but 8.5 Million per tank is still a lot. But I love it, such a cool tank.
Actually, the 140mm is tested from the 90s. The project was suspended with the end of the cold war, and has been reactivated for the MGCS. Search "Leclerc Terminateur" or "Leclerc T4" or "Leclerc 140". This is a real Leclerc prototype with a 140mm gun installed.

If I remember correctly, the Indians had nothing to do with the initial development of the Vickers, but it was purposefully made for exports only. The Indians just built the tanks under a license agreement.
I think we can safely say that Russian MBTs don't belong at the top of the "feared" list...unless you're counting fear from their own crews of getting a top off....
Just remember during the Iran/Iraq War a Battalion of Iraqi T-72s where able to destroy an entire Iranian Tank Battalion of British Challenger 1s and American M-60 tank without suffering any casualties.

@@cairok2097 it was never implemented, NATO in general likes the idea of having a loader due to easier maintenance with a person extra. However i see Nato switching to autoloaders very soon with the introduction of the Rheinmetall 130mm gun, whose cardridges are considered too big for a human loader. The leclerc, type90 and K2 black panther already use cassette autoloaders in the back turret, I think when the leopard 3 gets introduced with a 130 or 140 mm gun its gonna have it like that aswell.
@@yungpindakaas having a human loader to help with maintenance is not a reason. Autoloaders are more expensive, prone to jamming and other issues and maintenance intensive. Autoloaders are just something more to break but they have their merits that's why everyone is experimenting with them. Many western countries Don't have em because they're expensive and their turrets are already so massive that there is no real benefit to using them on current designs. They're probably not gonna swap out a Abrams turret just to get that weight reduction from having an autoloader. Its more efficient to just make a whole new tank designed to have a autoloader from the get go. The main benefits of a autoloader are smaller tank, lighter weight, less crew, more crew free to man another tank.

Medium tanks of ww2 were technically main battle tanks of their time as they fit into the role of what a mbt is today best. So saying the panther is a mba, the same could be said for the panzer iv, sherman, Cromwell, and t-34. However back then you had all sorts of tanks, lights, mediums, heavies, etc. The centurion is classed as the first mbt as its the first tank to combine the multiple roles these tanks where for, while also being universal for engagements previously requiring different tank types.

It's hard to believe so many tanks developed during WWII are still operational. Obviously they have been retrofitted and upgraded many times over but still.
A proven formula probably. For many countries it's an issue of "bang-for-the-buck" and their tank doctrine might involve more urban or defensive warfare. It's also a good bet that say 800 Centurions/T-55's/M48's will still create serious destruction against an enemy which only fields say 70-80 tanks. Quantity is a quality onto its own. Some countries also keep their 40's and 50's era MBT's mothballed or as "support tanks" . Speaking of WWII designs. I believe the German MG3 general purpose machine gun is directly derived from the infamous MG42 used in WWII. I read somewhere that the "Yugoslavs" (collective name for the now independent republics) stockpiled a lot of these from their occupation by Nazi Germany and kept using them in their armed forces well into the 1980's. So by the time their civil wars started in the mid 90's a lot of people brought out their moth-balled MG42. From reports it appears as if the MG42 was as deadly in urban combat in 1994 at it had been in 1944. The Oerlikon 20mm cannon was designed in 1937 and it still seen in wide us today 85 years later. The famous M2 Browning heavy machine gun is still effective today almost a century after its initial design. So like I said, some "WWII-era" design still provide a good level of mobility and firepower to be a threat to an enemy - especially one which doesn't have that much modern anti-tank weapons. Oh, and from what I've heard *even* if these old wolves get knocked out by an rpg quite a few of them can be repaired and put back into action. I suppose whether or not these countries have a lot of "disposable tank crews" plays a part too. Patton certainly counted on that during WWII when he insisted on all production being focused on the Sherman tank knowing that he could afford to lose quite a few crews with repaired knocked-out Shermans.
A lot of those chassis have been converted into support or training vehicles, where they work fine. A huge number of countries used converted shermans for recovery vehicles for decades.
Is no hard to believe at all. They are mechanical devices and can be maintained. Just like old buildings. If you maintain and improve an old building it will last a long time. Why are they running?! Because is cheaper to keep old stock and gradually improve it rather than spend more money on developing new ones and then buying those new ones at a new price.
I am highly disappointed he didn't mention T-72M4CZ what is a much better upgraded design than PT-91 Twardy. He even mentioned the worst MBT what is TR-85M1.
I would've thought it obvious that MBT's are now obsolete as demonstrated rather clearly in Ukraine. Ultimately they are expensive whereas the hand held weapons that destroy them aren't.
So the UK Challenger 1 still hold the record by hitting the enemy tank of the range of almost five thousand meters , and the FR Leclerc XLR (4 gen) is able to detect tagets at night of range up to 4000m. Truly?

What do you say when you've hit an enemy tank when you're in a Sho't?
Nice shot
I am highly disappointed he didn't mention T-72M4CZ what is a much better upgraded design than PT-91 Twardy. He even mentioned the worst MBT what is TR-85M1.
