Delightful characters. Jennifer was as potty in life as she appears in the series. She died in the arms of my doctor friend and with such dignity. When diagnosed with cancer (and she was riddled it with it) she didn't complain. commenting that she's smoked all her life and knew the risks. In addition she had a strong personal faith and believed that she was going to a better place. In a documentary on her life I was delighted to heat that after a difficult life Two Fat Ladies not only provided her with financial security but more importantly were the happiest days of her life. Clarissa Dixon-Wright was an honest fascinating character. Her biography Spilling The Beans is well worth reading. I think Jennifer's biography should have been called, had it been written - Zest For Life. It always cheers me to hear Jennifer at the end day "It's been a lovely day, enormous fun. I loved it." Two Fat Ladies was certainly a unique show and entertaining still 25 years later.
Three years later. Providentially, I'm listening to them at midnight too. It's almost like AMSR. So soothing and the food looks and sounds so scrumptious it's almost like I'm eating it.
Watch the sheep in the background - you can see how much they sped the recording up by. It’s a great trick though and very convincing but done at a very slow crawl.
I could not love these women more... They must have been so much fun! I love how Jennifer breaks out into song as they dance past each other, and at the end Clarissa utters a very posh English "Ohh..."
Very funny the way that both Jennifer and Clarissa jokingly recoiled from the proprietress of the hot snacks trailer when she told them that she was a vegetarian.
8:06 "They just don't have a passion for crackling, I don't know anyone in England who doesn't like crackling except those poor unfortunate vegetarians I suppose, seems a pity". 😄
It would have been wonderful to have sat with these ladies , having a glass of champagne and listening to the stories RIP to them both heaven will never be hungry
I don’t think their relationship off-camera was quite as cordial, particularly where Jennifer was concerned. If you’ve seen the documentary about her…’Jennifer Paterson, one fat lady, one large life’, they said she could be quite acidic towards Clarissa. It’s a good watch about an incredible life. RIP to them both 🙏🏼
I get the sentiment but the people acting like they wouldn't be using their phones if they had them need to stop. Give people 50 years ago smart phones and they'd do the same. I like the idea of not being stuck on our phones but it's not because we are lesser people. They just didn't have them
Umpteen years ago I stumbled upon these two, I believe while watching PBS. LOVED them, although I didn't get to see many episodes before it was either removed or whatever happened. Thank you so much for sharing these two with us.😁👍
Clarissa was very wicked in the most delightful way. I dig her sometimes dark humor. And she wasn't afraid to go there. These two ladies were "Bad Assed".
The Two Fat Ladies was one of the first cooking shows I ever watched. I fell in love with both of them and still love the shows so I'm very happy that you have put them on UA-cam for everyone to watch whether for the first time or as a happy memory revisited!
Oh I am so happy to see you ladies cooking together and enjoying the day on each of your episodes. My husband and I used to watch you on TV a few years ago and I even recorded a whole day of you on VHS.! Now I have no way to play it. VHS players are long gone!
Two fat ladies is such a delightful distraction. These two women know everything about cooking and so much interesting history they eagerly share. It’s like a small Vacation!!!
The BEST cooking show that ever was. I discovered these ladies when I was 13 years old after the show had ended and been syndicated on The Food Network in America. I get so weepy watching this seeing how delightful these women were. They instilled within me a love and curiosity for cooking. I love watching this too to see the world with no cellphones, no 9/11. A delightful time frozen in my memory. Love you ladies!
These two were fantastic, I remember meeting them and they were just as funny in public as they were on the tv programme. I got the box set and not for the ‘receipts’ as Jenifer said, but for the comedy between the two of them.
I do not believe people the few that claim that these ladies did not like or respect each other. You can tell by their banter even if they weren't best friends since they spent so much time working together they definitely enjoyed each other's company and giggles, respect each other. I wish I had aunts like them. I am glad here in the USA their episodes aired on the Public Television Broadcast System so that I could grow up watching them. 🕊️💜🕊️
The way I’ve always interpreted it was that they did respect each other deeply. Being two different women thrust together as it were is always a challenge but they both knew it was a great opportunity and took to it with gusto. Jennifer never would hold back on her drinking for Clarissa’s sake, but Clarissa never stated it was something that irritated her (only once being a bit afraid during the segment of them shooting for game). Jennifer was often a bit intimidated by Clarissa’s academic intellect (although Clarissa was prone to making exaggeration at times) but when it came to cooking they respected each others taste and opinions tremendously. They had what we would call a decent working relationship, not the best of friends but clearly proud of their joint accomplishment. And both very good at putting on a show (particularly Jennifer)
Don't tell me that stunt at the end was really Jennifer and Clarissa ??? It certainly LOOKED like it lol I love seeing the kitchens in these old country homes and manors. I pattered my own 1886 renovated kitchen in this style. Fifty years of watching British TV and movies finally paid off lol :o)

@@mikegallant811 I honestly can't stand that phrase. Good for her, too. Everybody should be so lucky as to have 3 million pounds to squander, go broke, and end up with a wildly popular cooking show that lives on after they are gone. Must have been doing something right.

At 9:00, Clarissa says, "I shall wait in eager anticipation." 😅 I found an online article published on 20 March 2014 with this sort of thing; 'They were not friends,’ says PR executive Ian Scott, a long-term confidant of Jennifer, who also became close to Clarissa. ‘Jennifer in particular couldn’t stand Clarissa and was often quite horrible about her.
