Fun fact. The scene in the Exorcist were the mother gets thrown across the room and into the window was real. The stunt crew pulled to hard and caused the actress to be hospitalized for back injuries, so that scream you hear in the movie is real. To this day she cannot walk right because of those back injuries.

Shelley Duvall acting in The Shining was so good because it’s real. Kubrick famously treated her so terribly on set that he actually drove her to mental exhaustion and breakdown to get the reactions he wanted.

    Some facts about the movies!
Psycho was the first movie to actually show a toilet on screen, and the shower seen is the most famous scene in cinematic history.
The exorcist was the first horror film to be nominated for the best picture oscar. Ellen Burstyn permanently injured her spine in one of the scenes.
The shining. Jack Nicholson was a firefighter before he was an actor. They had to film that one scene over three days and used over 60 doors because he got through them so easily.
Halloween, the script was written in just 10 days and it was filmed in 20. Its also Jamie Lee Curtis' debut. Michael Myer's mask is a William Shatner Halloween mask painted white.😁
Scream. Drew Barrymore was supposed to be casted as Sydney Prescott but she fought to take the role of the first victim.

To be fair, Kubrick did that to fucking everybody. He was a nightmarish perfectionist who would never stop reshooting scenes. I think she did amazing in that film, especially with those expressive eyes of hers, there's a short documentary on here about how in the film it's SHE who loses her mind and not her husband, it's pretty dang interesting because there's so many little changes happening in the background and stuff that doesn't make sense as if she really is imagining it..plus the moon landing conspiracy which is also pretty cool

I was reading Children of the Corn for the first time and my sister's husband decided that we should load up the kids and all go riding around on the back roads, so I took my book with me and continued to read. When I got to the part where the kids were attacking the car…the front passenger tire blew out…which is where I happened to be sitting. My sister just about died laughing, she said I screamed and was trying to crawl over her (away from the door) while still wearing my seatbelt. At 4:47 one of the girls asked if that was an origin of jump scares and the answer is; kinda, not really but kinda
One of the earliest jump scares was used in The Phantom of the Opera (1925), when Christine removes The Phantom's mask. However, silent films did not really lend themselves to the technique. The first significant jump scare from the sound era is from Cat People (1942), as Alice is being chased down an alley and a bus suddenly appears at the end of the alley, accompanied by a loud hiss and screech; this technique of a jump scare from an object that’s actually non-threatening became known as “the Lewton Bus,” after the film’s producer Val Lewton. One of the most significant and impressive jump scares of the black and white era was from Howard Hawks' The Thing from Another World (1951), when the creature attacks immediately upon the characters opening a closed door.
1976's Carrie has one of the first modern jump scares. The scene, which occurs at the end of the film, is credited as the inspiration for the use of a final jump scare in the 1980 movie Friday the 13th, to show that an apparently dead villain had survived.

"A true classic never dies" modern horror movies rely on cgi, animation, computer tricks. But classic horror movies just use a good old music that really add some suspense for the audience. And jumps scare is just a momentary feeling we got, that will dissappear after a while. But being scared for real can give you nightmares, fear dark places, and have a scary imagination

I saw the doll they used for this exact scene at 3:03 at the Moving Image Museum back when I used to live in Queens NY. It's so lifelike. One of the curators once showed us how it was used in the movie. The Exorcist is my favorite movie of all time, followed by Ju-On.

Watching you guys be afraid of Halloween is hilarious to me. It’s actually one of my favorite movies to watch (I love horror films, as do all my siblings and nieces and nephews. My niece’s have been going to the theater to see horror films with us since they were toddlers) over and over. My nieces and nephews love Michael Myers, as do I. He’s my favorite 80s slasher. Scream, and the whole original Scream trilogy is actually my favorite series to watch and rewatch. Like Halloween, I can watch them over and over and know pretty much all the lines. Scream and Halloween (plus the 2018 IT) are my favorites to watch when I’m sad. I just really love horror and their familiarity comfort me.

Good choice of movies! These are all classics.
A piece of history trivia: Hitchcock's marketing campaign for "Psycho" introduced the idea of spoilers to movie audiences. On billboards and in TV ads, the director pleaded with audiences to avoid ruining the movie's surprises for their friends.

Wasn't it also a thing for people to come and go in movie theaters? Like if they missed the first 45 minutes, they would watch the rest of the movie, and then come back another time to see the beginning and then leave when they reached where they came in at. (Where the saying "This is where I came in" came from" and that one of the marketing things they did for this movie was to tell the theaters to not let anyone into the theater once the movie started.
It kept people from being confused since the main character dies early in the flim, and 2. it peaked so much intrest that it got more bodies in seats.

So if you decide to do another of these may I recommend; House of Wax, the OG SAW, Silence of the Lambs, the OG It (The werewolf scene makes me jump every time, even when I expect it), Texas Chainsaw Massacre, A Cabin in the Woods, I Know What you did Last Summer, Carrie, The Gift, The FLy, and/or Edward Scissorhands. Vincent Price was an incredible horror movie actor known for his voice, and he was in a ton of classic horror movies as well (He was also the spooky voice in Micheal Jackson's Thriller)

A lot of good suggestions already, but I'll throw in Wait Until Dark which has one of the most classic (and literal) jump scares. The Birds where Tippi Hedron gets stuck in the room and can't get out. The Haunting from 1963. Cat People (1942). Really old school would be the skinning scene from The Black Cat (1933).

The scene in The Exorcist when the mom gets slapped and she falls, the actress actually hurt her back because of the belt wiring that pulled her down.
Also, many possesion movie sets are believed to be haunted including:
    The Exorcist
    The Amityville Horror
    The Possession
    Exorcism of Emily Rose
    The Popes Exorcist
    The Conjuring/The Nun

My mum snuck into a showing of the exorcist as a 16 year old. Every night after that she made her mum look under her bed and in her closet for years.

I love the reactions but i wish you would cover the context and some of the build up for some of these scenes. that scene from the shining was great but its so much better when you know the slow build up and suspense that hass been growing. The scene from psycho was incredibly violent for the time and was a huge deal back then. Scream killed what appeared to be the main star in the first 10 minutes of the movie. There is a ton of creepy stuff surrounding the exorcist.

So when they are reacting to these movies are they watching just clips, or are they watching the whole thing and just editing reactions? Either way, The Omen, The Thing, Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Wrong Turn, and Saw I would recommend. I am very much enjoying the reactions so far.

Kinda cute seeing younger people react like this they all say things like; 'oh it's old horror movies so it wont be that scary'. Bring on Shining and Exorcist, just the music makes many feel the anxiety build. Then finish em off with something twisted like The Thing.

I think that since classic horror films couldn't be made to be over the top like ones from the last 15 to 20 years, their charm comes from the buildup of suspense. Less violence, gore and horror, but because of that first time watchers would probably be more on edge I imagine.

    I despise Horror stuff but hey;
Love them or hate them, there’s a reason why there’s a lot, and I mean A LOT of horror movies and films, because in the Film industry it’s so easy to scare someone, it’s quick to make, and cheap to make (I learned about it in theater/film class).
Halloween (1978), Jamie Lee Curtis herself said that it was on a low budget and was filmed in 17 days (and it’s ironic as well because Jamie Lee Curtis said herself that she hates horror movies and scary stuff because she gets scared very easily [I don’t blame her because I’m the same way to], yet she’s very great at it)!
Speaking of Jamie Lee Curtis I would like to share some Fun Facts with Y’all!
Fun Fact (1): 0:41 The woman in the shower in Psycho is the mother of Actress Jamie Lee Curtis; Jamie Lee Curtis would eventually be a Horror star on her own in the Halloween Film series 3:47 , Literally following the Footsteps of her mother, Now she’s a Hollywood Icon herself (Hollywood Royalty)!
Also Jamie Lee Curtis won an Oscar for her Roll as Laurie Strode in This years 2023 Oscars (Congratulations To Jamie Lee Curtis)!🎉
    Another Fun Fact:
5:31 When She said that Jack Nicholson’s Face looked like the Joker in the Shining, That’s because He Was the Joker in The Batman Film in 1989, which has been said to be the most Terrifying and best Portrayal of the Joker
(Until Heath Ledgers’ Joker came into picture In the Film ‘The Dark Knight’ in 2008 which unfortunately lead to Mr. Ledger’s death).
(Also if you made it this far, thank you for taking your time to read)!
