Run out of ammo???
Lol, not even possible! Not for me or mine. We have “enough.”
As to the bird of prey providing meat, birds of prey are a neat tool, but that bird needs to provide enough meat for itself and the two dogs before meat can be gathered for the family. And that takes a lot of time, and that time might include travel to new hunting grounds each day…
Yep, “tree of origin” does sound magical….
Keep it undisclosed.
Algore? Lol.
I remember a falcon that I rescued in Arizona had gotten hit by a car and so I had called the fire department and they got me in touch with somebody who could fix the poor things wing and then rehab it and turn it loose. They told me that the falcons mate for life, and that they were very particular about knowing exactly where I found him so that they could turn him loose in the exact same spot so he could find his mate. He was a small falcon. About the size of a dove . He was an American male kestrel falcon
Those are very pretty. Most people don't even realize they are falcons when they see them in the wild.
I rescued one once that had been hit (a small red hawk, not a falcon, much larger than a dove but a lil smaller than an owl) and stopped to get a box at the gas station because the police said there was nothing they could do for it/for me, and I felt obligated/called to save it's life. The people at the gas station I had stopped to get a box from made a threat to report me for rescuing it! I:( called the Audubon society and they were closed for the weekend. I brought her home and put her on the back sunroom and told my grandfather not to open the box. What did he do the next day, he opened the box! lol Hawk clawed him good on the hand, flew around the house and then out the front door. It had recovered from being knocked out overnight. :) We lived outside the city by a lake so it had a great new home. :) All I can say to anyone trying to help one is, be careful, because these birds can really hurt you bad if they're conscious! They're amazing creatures, though! Powerful and so intelligent!
Ll
Untill recently I think they were called sparrow hawks.
@@SW-oy5zw the hawk that I rescued had a broken wing. It actually thought about biting me when I picked it up and put its mouth on me but never bit down and hurt me even though I was expecting it. It was almost like the bird knew I was helping him.
"If you drink milk from a bean instead of a cow..."
LOL
😉
Easily the greatest disclaimer of all time
Apparently nuts can be used for milk too. 😆
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👍
When you drink milk from a stinky farm animal that’s covered in filth and it’s own excrement long after you’ve been weaned….equally if not MORE STUPID.
I am a master falconer with 30 years experience. Your video was excellent and the falconer who took you hunting showed you and your family exactly what falconry is all about. Secondly regarding the retail hawk that was after your chicken's. There is a period of time in the late fall/early winter months where hawks are migrating through. The young first year hawks, mostly Coopers hawks along with some Red tail hawks, haven't developed the hunting skills of older breeding age hawks, and therefore resort to catching the easiest prey they can find. Most of my free range hen loses to hawks (and Great Horned owls at twilight and dawn) have occurred between the coldest months- mid Dec to mid Feb. This is the time of year when the mortality rate of young hawks can be greater than 50%, mainly due to starvation. I have learned the hard way to pen my chicken's up during these months. And put rat wire fencing around the bottom couple feet of their enclosure, rather than rely on chicken wire, because hawks and raccoons will reach through and grab the chickens that venture to close to the fence. OBTW. Love your vids and how you boldly approach projects and challenges, with heavy doses of the funny!!
Thanks Mike for the info. I wondered if was the time of year. I appreciate the expert opinion! Thanks so much!
Falconry has always been one of those things I wanted to learn since I was a kid.
Me too. It's a lot of work
Yes, I'm finding out it's a life style.
One uncanny thing about peregrine falcons is how utterly silent they are in flight. Once I was at a Renaissance fair, there was a falconry demo and the bird passed within a yard of my head at probably 40 mph. It made absolutely no sound whatsoever as it passed, it was a sonic shadow. They're astounding, beautiful birds.
I still think cows have better tasting milk than beans. Their cheese tastes better too.
This wouldn't matter in the apocalypse, but to get started and become good at this you need a permit which, together with equipment, will run you $500 to start. Also, do not expect to always have the teamwork shown in this video: The Harris hawk is the only bird of prey that has this level of social skills. Still, I recommend this hobby to everyone.
Yeah I don't know how much a permit in my state is, even though legal my state doesn't offer a whole lot information online, but on top of the permit itself there's a lot of red tape and the acquisition fee alone is $200. So I can see why not a lot of people get into it.
There's a reason for all the red tape - to put up walls to stop you. The typical Government plan - control and prohibit!!
Lol. You nailed this one. You had me literally laughing out loud at the end. Also, this video was sick. Great job thinking outside the box with falcon hunting. Very cool.
Thanks Cody!
Very interesting. I didn't even think that a hunting license would be needed, I mean it makes sense because it is hunting, but never considered it.
It's highly regulated.
Falconry can also work to protect your garden and crops from predator damage from pests, rabbits, and other birds for sure, not sure about larger pests but eliminating those would be a major win!
I was literally thinking the same thing. I know someone who owns a vineyard that has a problem with birds. It is a ton of work to put bird netting up and then down. I have seen a wild falcon empty the vineyard of flying pests just by flying overhead.
Falcons are amazing birds. When I was stationed in Colorado, the Falcon was and still is the mascot for the Academy, we would see them fly at the home football games. Thank you for sharing.
That is AWESOME! I've always loved the idea of falconry, but to actually see it in action was amazing!
Thanks!
That warning in the beginning was hilarious!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👍🏼
Lol!!! You still got it. Funnier than ever. And informative. Awesome job! Keep up the great stuff.
Thank you!
What a great experience! Well done!
Thanks Jon!
There just weren't any squirrels in this patch of woods today... but that wind buffer on the camera mic looks quite tasty.🦅
😅
I think hunting with Hawks and falcons is an extremely cool way to hunt. Unfortunately I can't do that. But it is definitely an option
Totally cool. I was able to see some of these gorgeous birds for sale over in the Middle East when on a business trip. Could the "sport of kings" become a Prepper thing? I would love to see this take off over here. Thank you for a really interesting episode!
Thanks! Might as well diversify our food gathering skills.
@@matztertaler2777 I was actually at the "market" where some of them were sold. I suspected they weren't cheap due to the luxe surroundings. Also I saw a group with their handlers on a commercial airplane. Definitely not something you see every day!
"The Eagle Huntress" (2016)- A good family documentary film, for those of you who haven't seen it before.👍
The ravens fed Elijah
MY NEIGHBOR IN SAN DIEGO RAISED THE FALCONS. BEAUTIFUL BIRDS
I always say if *^&@ hits the fan, that my past hunting experience and being raised on the farm and a lot of outdoor experience, that I would be able to survive. But I am definitely domesticated from the old days, so Im not sure. But I assume I would have a leg up from the "city folk" Awesome video.
😄 Thanks!
Where I was raised in the Ozarks, folks say hawks and falcons taste a lot like chicken. Seriously, though, if you're relying on a bird of prey to bring home the bacon, what's to prevent some yahoo from shooting your bird?
i read a month or two ago about the need for more falconers that they said anyone could become one without much of the hassle. it's also a good job, airports and some dump sites need them
Very cool video that took time to film 🎥. Nice! As always your editing skills shine.👍💞
Thank you so much!
Awesome
Working together is the way we used to do it 😁👍⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This was really cool to see! I got to handle a few different raptors from a rescue organization at a conference for the industry I previously worked in a few years ago and it was amazing to see them up close and to feel their strength. We live out in the country and have hawks and owls all over out here, and summer before last, I just happened to be looking out a window as I was putting on my boots, and got to witness one of the hawks as it swooped down and grabbed a snake (likely a garter, based on what I could see of the length and girth, plus the fact that we had tons of them in our beds and gardens that year)! It was the neatest thing to watch! Thanks for sharing this, and I love that your girls weren’t squeamish about the kills. 🙂
I always wanted to learn how to do that. Awesome video keep it up please.
Thanks!
This is soooooo coool!!!!! Well done HAXMAN
Thanks Nick!
Falcons are truly majestic and intelligent birds
Great video, very interesting. Loved seeing the hawks in action. And I drink milk from beans and cows lol
😄
Not disappointed at all! That was AWESOME!! So Haxman..... how many new "family members" did you wind up with after this?????? Hmmmm????? Great content!! Been waiting for something on your channel....not disappointed at all! Take care, be safe and God bless!
Thanks Jim! We made it out with the same number we went in with. 😄
For some reason the neighborhood I live in had a rat issue in late summer and early fall, then the feathered air force showed up. We have a lot of Cooper's hawks in the area and when they discovered the rats it was on! Apparently, that brought the attention of a couple of redtails, a kestral, and a peregrine falcon. I witnessed a couple rats being taken out and it was an amazing sight! Haven't seen any rats since they showed up, now only to get some great horned owls in the area to take out the groundhogs.
I need something big enough to take out these dang raccoons here! Lol
@@jodilea144 I'm trying to train the raccoons to overthrow the groundhogs. I did train them to stay out of my garbage.
@@velvanae ha! I’ve got outside cats, so it’s a constant battle to allow them time to eat before the coons come up and try to take all the food for themselves. I thought it was cute at first, and had worked with a couple of the younger ones and had them taking food from my hand…but they get big…and more and more move in, hearing about the free buffet, I guess. I have always encouraged possums, because they eat ticks and kill snakes, but the raccoons are fighting them off too. I’ve taken to standing guard with a .22 so that I’m not spending all my money feeding these little gangsters (they just shake it off and come right back if I pop them with a BB gun). It was so bad that I was having to keep them from trying to run inside the house when I open the front door to go out and feed! I’ve pushed them back with my foot several times (not kicking them…but tempted…). I tried trapping them to relocate, but one of my cats inevitably gets caught because they’re so nosy. It’s war at this point…or, I could ship them to you so that your groundhog defense army gets built up faster! 🤔😬
@@jodilea144 I have enough raccoons, maybe I will work with the crows and jays and train them to harass the groundhogs and bring me shiny things LOL. My wife hates that I try to make friends with raccoons, they keep coming on the back porch and sniffing her feet and licking her ankles. It don't help that I say stuff like "I can't fault them for that" or "you do have cute feet and ankles" She did have me live trap one years ago a day or so after thanksgiving and she caught me feeding it leftover turkey. I got yelled at for that. I just told her I am making sure he or she has a full tummy before I release him or her. She does have videos of the raccoons coming on the back porch with her, and I think one of me feeding a raccoon through the balusters while it was sitting on the garbage can lid. I got yelled at for that too.😂
@@velvanae yeah, they can be really cute…until they’re not. Lol, my husband laughs at them and doesn’t think it’s such a big deal, but then again, he works away from home most of the time, so I’m the one dealing with them. I like the idea of training the birds to do your bidding! Have a great night. 🙂
ABSOLUTE BEAUTIFUL Bird's..GREAT Video!!!👍
The falcon facts while u did your advertisement was so freaking dope! i absolutely love the idea - happened upon your channel cuz im looking to get chickens when i get my fence put up. Came for the info , subbing for the creativity and your tact. look forward to seein more!
Awesome! Thank you!
Awesome show. Thanks.
Ya bro.
Love your style and flow.
Good times watching your stuff
Dude, you are hilarious!! I've never seen your video before the "war on chickens" came up on my feed your funny remarks, & your family acting like your dragging them to help build, corral, & chase the chickens crack me up. So I'm a new sub & like your info very helpful. Great work👍
Omg I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS 😂🤣🤣 they are funny and informative, and not boring. Thank you God bless you and your family
Great video after 5 min. We had friends in OKLA that did this ~40 years ago. You would go over to their place a few hours early to watch the hawks find and kill rabbits. After a little while, dinner on the table. Over at our place we returned the favor with x-large pizza's which surprisingly the hawks couldn't find. Good times....now to watch the rest of the video......
technically a hawk could be used to warn of an incoming army, but you'd need a person to send it with that message tied to it's leg
Excellent Episode
Oven Roasted Hawk. Southern Fried Hawk. Barbecued Hawk.
I love your channel! Please keep the awesome videos coming!
Too much work for tiny birds-but Great video! Fun for you and the family! I'm stockd jerky and canned meats and veg. Learned how to make beef and pork jerky by accident. Fell asleep. 😣🙄 BEST JERKY THE NEXT DAY! I now sleep while BBQing. 😴🤓
Hey Hax - Great video. So cool to see such a majestic animal. Thumbs up from St. Pete Beach, FL. Best to Kim and the girls.
Thanks Chuck!
This is sooo badass , this is becoming my favorite channel !
Raptors are soooooo damn righteous man....proud mega Chad's 😃💖
You're a pretty smart feller. I like how you add the falcon info to keep the viewer siting through the ad!
There's otherwise a quality to your video(s) that I might expect from a syndication. e.g. emotional rollercoaster (Is the hawk OK? ... Puppies!)
The falcon is cool! I grew up on Peregrine Circle!
And somehow, through all of this, I found a new appreciation for Al Gore!
That was awesome. very cool.
WOW! 🦅
That one little birds going to be hard feeding all those people and critters
One of my favorite movies is Lady Hawk. I wanted a black Fresian horse, a pet wolf, and a pet hawk to ride around hunting, and kicking bad guys butts when I was younger. After watching this, I want at least a pet hawk. This is bad ass!
I saw the wing right away. Was worried for the bird in that instant but happy he was okay.
Thank You For The Fun Vida!
This was
a GREAT video. Why because I looked into Bird of prey hunting years ago. In my state. Yep I will just hunt myself. Thanks again.
That was Fascinating!
Thanks!
Finally! A system that will make me a proficient dove hunter! Neat!!
Hey Hax, I am new to your channel and I have enjoyed every video I have watched so far. It was clear to me in this video from the first hunt that this solution is not really for the average person. However it was very interesting And great fun to watch you did a great job. I especially enjoyed your conclusion at the end and I'm totally with you. I'm practicing with my slingshot.
Great video, thanks for sharing! That's why they call falcondry, "The Sport Of Kings". It would take the wealth of a king to support the sport.
I was in Statesboro this past Monday! 😆
That was Falcon amazing
That’s interesting. Cool to watch
Love it! 👍Keep 'em coming, I really enjoy your content. Take care and have a good one, Adios!👊
Thanks! Will do!
I think I'll stock up on ammo.
Haha. Me too
There was a guy that hunted Calkins behind my old work in a pond for ducks. It was pretty cool. And it was in the city just outside of Minneapolis
That is awesome!
Awesome video!!
I agree slingshot looks pretty good. Too funny love your video God bless you and yours.❤
Thanks so much
That’s the coolest thing I’ve ever seen, and I used to watch a man who had a minkery who trains and hunts with mink. Joseph the Minkman Carter.
Great video mate and those falcons are amazing to watch we have a few fly around where I live down under in a rural area they help reduce the deadly brown snake population as well as mice and rats. I also enjoy the humor you add to all of your videos 😁😆😅🤣😂
Thanks Rodney!
Pellet gun will also work, but that can be useful for longer distances
Thank you for your video and content. It’s awful to some people to see hunting but as conscious collective we can’t forget the way of earth, or nature. Keep up the good work.
Hunters are usually the best conservationists.
Hi. Thank was pretty interesting. Thanks.
Thank you too!
I had that experience once! So cool
Awesome
dirt cheep way to catch a squirrel ... peanut butter on a lg rat trap nailed to a tree. My youngest son did it and would catch tons of them... he called it his "trap line" hehe .. like he was hunting bear... no amo needed
Clever. They are after all pretty much a fuzzy tailed tree rat.
I love those animals, I remember having a hurted little falcon from
The street and I used to feed him meat and he was kind to me, I used some leather gloves to feed him with my hands as a prey, and he was very smart, I miss him.
I have a cousin who does this. It's really cool!
Those voices are something else!
Love your videos
This was so interesting! I never knew there was a falconry hunt. Just wow!!!!
Thinking about raising meat rabbits and quail.... Along with the chickens... Howdy from Texas 🤠
I hear meat rabbits are a good way to go. I would just have a hard time harvesting them. It's like picking out a puppy to eat. 😂
I want to learn how to do this, amazing!
I got a chance to go out with a Falconer once, boy was it something.
I would SO much like to have birds to hunt with, but... for those of us that won't be able to have them, quail are THE best ROI. They can start laying in 5 weeks. FIVE WEEKS. They hatch in 18 to 21 days. The eggs are more nutritious than any other known egg.
One year my friends yard was absolutely infested with squirrels. That spring a family of red-tailed hawks showed up - mom, dad and juvenile. Three weeks later the squirrels were scarce and the family moved on. Magnificent creatures!
I couldn’t film it for the video but we went on a hunt with a Red Tailed Hawk. It was absolutely savage compared to the other hawks. It was actually the best hunt and most dramatic. Due to falconry rules though it couldn’t be filmed.
Almost looks like you’re also rocking the field craft visor panel in your ride also.
Yep
I have wanted to own and hunt with a hawk or falcon for a long time(including the dog and bird combo).
Another great video.
1:00 nice
1:01 warmer
1:03 well done sir. i could watch that content all day
thank you sir
Falcon hunting. Man working with animals in trust and respect relationship is fascinating. I watched my cats work in teamwork like this. The son was across the street. Mom on our side. Mom brought a bird down which flew across the street. Her son finished the job (but not for me.) This generation has been shorted but it's nice to see people interacting with the land. I see God's design in it.
haha ah bud... always good for a laugh!
Awesome!
Thanks!
what a great video family.
Thank you!
Would love to know how the tube guy with dancing arms worked out with the chickens. I thought about doing that last summer.
Going through those trees are really ruff on hawks 😓 May Cooper hawks have healed broken chest bones and die early from airing in the trees and game knows this. Always try to keep your birds out of the heavy wooded areas and wide clearing if you can
Several years ago, up in the Pac NW, my wife and I were out for a hike along a river. I spotted an Osprey sitting in a tree staring intently at the river. We stopped and just stood their watching. After a couple of minutes of this Osprey just sitting, stock still, it suddenly dove at the water and came up with a nice fat fish (not a salmon, wrong time of year, I'm assuming trout but I don't know fish very well). With the filtered sunlight through the trees and the constant rippling of the water, we could not see anything at all in the river, but this Osprey from way up in a tree spotted that fish, dove and snagged it in a flash. Absolutely amazing to watch.
I also love (and appreciate that you pointed it out in the video) that Peregrine Falcons "punch" their prey to knock them down/out. "Super sonic punch, baby!"
Sometimes you can actually hear the punch. It’s amazing that a fragile animal can hit that hard and be unharmed.
@@HAXMAN Nature is f'ing amazing. I just love seeing the adaptations, on both sides, to kill and avoid being killed. So impressive and awe-inspiring.
I'm humbled. Not worthy. I'm super glued to the edge of my seat I cannot even stand up the moment. I hate it when that happens.
tis was a guddin whewie!
I watched a Cooper's Hawk dine on a dove the other day. Made a bit of a mess in my garden
Very interesting
