  • How to make perfect crispy onion rings in a skillet. This is my mom's recipe (almost). They come out crispy every time, without a mix or any unusual ingredients. These onions won't pull out of the onion ring. These are the perfect side for hamburgers, hot dogs or any other sandwich. They also, make a great appetizer.
There's an interesting story behind how my mom acquired this recipe that goes back to the 1970's. There was a small country diner in Gum Log, Georgia, where we were living at the time (and where we lived for most of my childhood).
We didn't have a car, so we had to walk the two miles each way to get a special treat every so often. Mom loved their hamburgers and being a kid, I was fond of their hot dogs.
On one of our visits to the diner, we noticed a new addition to the menu which made our mouth's water. Miss Gladys's Famous Onion Rings. We were kinda poor so we couldn't afford onion rings for the both of us, so we had to share one, but Miss Gladys threw in a few extra rings.
They were delicious and we ate every last crumb! Mom knew that it would be several months before we could splurge at the diner again, so she cut a deal with Miss Gladys for her recipe. Mom traded Gladys her recipe for fried Okra for Miss Gladys's onion rings.
When we got home, mom whipped us up a huge batch of Miss Gladys's Famous Onion Rings and we ate until we were sick.

CONTEMPO! When I fry my onion rings, I do it in the oven. I set the temperature to 400°-450° and put some oil on a baking sheet. I put that in the oven for about 15 minutes while cutting the onions n making the batter. I put the onions in the batter all at once to go a little faster. Remove the hot pan, quickly put your onion rings on it and put back in the oven. Turn onions over when one side is browned. They crisp up nice when the oil is already hot. I do it this way because I'm disabled and can't stand at the stove more than 5 minutes. 👍♥️👍

Maureen R Thank you for the idea on using the oven. Not only is it healthier but your right for us handicapped standing (or like me I’m on a chair with wheels) at the stove for a bit is hard or your face is close to grease splatter. I also use a screen guard that helps if you really want fried instead of using the oven.

Good morning blessings from the Blue Ridge Mountains Va. Since I lost my husband of 24 years together in January , I have been in a fog until I started watching your videos. Not only did I lose my precious husband, but I lost 80% of our belongings from our storage building when we moved here. I just couldn't pay for the storage building after he left this home to be with our lord . Your videos have given me the Miracle of actually wanting to start cooking and canning again. I haven't wanted to do anything but stay in, sleep, and eat a sandwich . I am not looking for pity because I know he's in a better place, and others have their own situations. However, I love the way you take the time to explain and compare . This box of utensils would be such a blessing to replace at least one of many items I have no longer or can afford right now. Either way, you choose isn't going to make me stop watching you. God Bless you, your family, and ALL your viewers 🙏.

I made these an hour ago....they are delicious, and the batter stayed on the rings beautifully!! I used Avocado Oil which has a high flashpoint.
I'm so grateful for your recipe and shared techniques.

I love number 1 how you always put God first. I try to do that and I do fall short of God. I am human and I feel like I always let Him down. I pray to Him everyday, several times a day. Thank you for your inspiration. Number 2 you cook just like I was raised on. You are so sweet and explain things so well. I have tried some of your recipes and they are so good. I pray you are on the air a very long time. I am very happy you are going to be doing this full time. Thank you again for your videos. May God bless you and your family.

Contempo. Anytime I see onion rings I think of a little patient I had when I was doing home health. She had been diagnosed with bladder cancer and her appetite was poor. She would eat onion rings from the Sonic when she would not eat anything else. I went to check on her and in her sweet southern little granny accent she said to me"I wished you would have brought me some onion rings." Her daughter I could tell was embarrassed and she started saying "Mother that is your nurse. She doesn't bring you onion rings. You let me know if you want some, don't say that to your nurse" I told her daughter that was fine she could tell me too if she wanted onion rings. My next visit,I went with onion rings. They were the sweetest family.
