I think the Fender into the M2 sounded the most like Marcus Miller's original tone. However, the basses all sounded great, and could probably be tweaked a little more to achieve a very similar sound.
That atelier z is monster.Much clearer tone than the Sire and the fender.More than likely better build too.I had a buddy who had a sire and had to dress the frets, and do a little tweaking before it got right. The preamp is the better feature on that bass
Atelier z i think was my favorite but they are so expensive and hard to get a hold of here in the u.s.! Also the sire was WAY better than i expected. At that price point you could buy that for like a student or your kid.
I think that the SIRE is good for in the mix and is well balanced. Maybe a little weak in treble in passive mode but the preamp is great value compared to my G&L L2000 which needs the mid boost from the Sire preamp...
The Atelier Z has the biggest and bassiest tone, hands down. The Fender is, well, a Fender. But the Sire has nothing to be ashamed of; it sounds really good given its price point. I'd play a gig with either one of them, no question. All really good sounding instruments...
+catboyzee Aterlier Z was a good impression stand out even among the demo Player and video production crew, but it was the point "great quality of setup", more than sound character. We felt those price differential also be responsive to Setup of previous record such as turned truss rod, Height adjust of PUs Thank you for your comment.
I'd say it's a toss up between the Fender and Sire depending on what sound you like. The Fender is a little warmer and rounder while the Sire is a little brighter and crisper. The Atelier Z smokes both of them, no contest, but it also costs more than both the Fender and Sire combined.
All three basses are nice. It really depends on the sound you are looking for. Although you have to admit the Sire bass at that low cost is great. I have a fender jazz bass american deluxe with the N3 pickup's and its great. But I prefer the Sire which I also have due to more smoother tone. But that is my taste. For me the Sire has done the job that i need.
+Andrea Troisi Fender Japan MM and SWR M2 Preamp is a his main combination. Sire is shortly put in hand, and Atelier Z has been borrowed from other bass player. I think have affects on the difference in the sound.Grazie!
For a relatively small investment, the Sire V7 is a phenomenal value, so much so that your "we get what we pay for" is essentially meaningless. Sound wise, the Sire goes toes to toes with the Fender and Atelier. And features like 18V ridiculously versatile preamp, active/passive modes, strung through body, nice tone woods, et al, the Sire V7 is an excellent bass period.
MARK ANGELO VINLUAN This JB77MM drives bartolini XTCT at 9V, so there is little less headroom. fender has rough tone (somewhat delicate) compared to other active models. I think that unique tone it reacts sensitively to the dynamics of the player's fingers, picking positions. causing dull tone changes that I also can't well explain. The rough tone when I play "ff", and soft and warm tone when I play "pp" are the many passive basses I like and of course the character of fender.
+James Patrick Silos Ya abusolutely. It's best comparison if we ready to Atelier Z's M-series. The Beta-series is reproduced in 24frets the sound of M245(20frets). Thank you for comment!
+ANTENNA565 You're welcome Sir! Moreover Atelier Z m-series equipped with xtct preamp just like the preamp installed by Roger Sadowsky in the Original Marcus miller Fender Jazzbass. I'm a Big fan of Marcus Miller / 70'ish Jazzbass. & I love Atelier Z basses too. M245 is my Weapon of choice (Proud owner here) Thanks & Godbless! :)
Really, no one? The Sire V7 is a 60s style Jazz Bass, withtout the same bridge pickup placement as the two others, it would have been judicious to choose a V7 Vintage for a fair comparison, but great video!!
The sire sounded like it was being played with a blanket over the speaker, especially in active mode. As much as I want to like it I would spend more to get what I want but for a newer player it could be great.
9999plato i understand your point of view but this bass would be great for any player, not just a newbie...it may not suit your tastes, but no need to diminish the value overall to a beginner bass... there are pros/veterans everywhere using these instruments on the road with notable artists and on major recording sessions.
To each his own. Though I no longer own any Squire Jazz basses they make those 70s squiers and the ones I tried I would play out any night. Nice basses, excellent at the price. I love those c shape narrow 70s necks. Many people might hate my Warmoth Gecko bass as it has a big neck and a more modern tone. If I had your bass in hand I might have a different opinion. Peace dude.
9999plato Don't get me wrong,I'm not trying to make you like the bass,i just said dismissing it as a beginner/newer player bass can't be true when there are seasoned pros using them on real gigs...that's all.it comes down to the player always...not how much an instrument costs.
Lol, the Sire sounds like straight piano strings here, very close to the Marcus Miller sound. And actually in this demo the Sire had more high frequencies in Active mode. As for as the whole "beginner bass bs", the V7 has an extremely versatile 18V preamp that puts many much more expensive basses to shame, it features a strung through body something that is unheard of at this price point. Sonically, there are literally hundreds of Sire V7 demos online (including this one), that don't sound the way you describe. But feel free to wave your snob flag, but there are countless experienced pros who own and gig with Sire basses.
Is it okay to turn on the active preamp of sire while using the M2 preamp? What is your mixing on the knobs of sire? Thank you for your acknowledgement! :)
Great video. Thanks. I'd like to hear your opinion. If, hypothetically, an American Fender standard jazz bass and a Sire V7 were the same price, which one would you buy? Thanks again.
+jay contrino I've owned a ton of American Jazz basses and boutique Jazz basses (Lull, Sadowsky Metro, Valenti). I now own two Sire V7 basses and the tone blows away any active Fender bass I've played. Insane value for the price.
+rOb A The neck is a very standard Jazz "C" shape. String spacing is standard for a 1.5 inch nut. The back of the neck is a heavy gloss finish. Basically if you don't mind a standard Jazz, you will be at home. The real game changer for this price point is the preamp. Just sounds like a MUCH more expensive instrument, and offers a crazy wide range of tones.
netdev1 Thanks. After hearing your opinion as well as others on UA-cam, I ordered the Sire V7, 4 string, ash body, maple neck. I can't wait for it to arrive. Thanks gain for your help.
+rOb a I say very much so. I have Fender, Lakland, and so far a Sire alder/RW. The materials, workmanship, incredible electronics, tuners, bound, bone nut, playability, tone--- just a great value in MHO. I will be adding another to my collection next month too:)
Hi Antenna 565... Good job and good groove... For me the Fender wins "at low hands" (a mani basse ah ah ..) as we say in Italy. Which model is it? RI75 MIJ?

Oh, man! The Sire in passive mode with the DI out sounds SO GOOD! I can't wait for mine to arrive!
Sire V7 became so mass produced that it lost its uniqueness, now almost everyone plays Sire V7 and sounds the same,my vote goes for Yamaha.

The Fender sounds incredible, especially going thru the MM2.
Atelier Z is the sharpest and the best imho. It reminds my Sadowsky Tokyo Jazz Bass.
fantastic playing!more videos please and English translation would be perfect!
The best of the Marcus Miller sample!
Great playing, my friend!!

2.AtlizerZ Beta

You are killing it, man!

Great playing on all basses. The Sire sounds amazing in passive or active with DI out.......very surprised.
Belman5 Really great passive!
Id roll off some sub bass frequency from the Sire bass and it would be my favorite.
Guy sounds like he walked straight out of a VST... super tight and solid playing
For a budget bass it's got a bangin tone ,the sire
I know! It's only like 399-499. Ridiculous.
Niiiiice demo buddy! Good job!
sire 499$
Atelier Z 2990$
Fender MM4 999$
And I like the sire the most in terms of tone
Sire all day long !

I choose the sire V7 Marcus Miller, too. I love passive tone!!!
The Sire in passive sounded best to me! I own a Sire V5 super bass.

Just got a Sire V3 5 string, the lower end model, and it has the same tone as the V7. At under 500 bux it's a no brainer. Buy one now!
V7 passive really growls I love that bass
Atelier is 24 fret jazz bass, it will affect the sound from where the finger will slap/plucking
sire sounds really really great!!!
Damn Sire V7 and Passive
love da funk, brutha!!
Atelier Z beta 4
The Fender sounds best , we get what we pay for.
Fender needs to bring the Marcus Miller signature bass back.

Fender JB with XTCT was the most accurate to the original

Atelier Z has the sharpest attack and definitely would sit better in the mix... fender is the muddiest sounding, Sire sounds very good for its price!

super the three basses , the power is fender marcus and second place sire

M2 JAPAN FO SUR SOUNDS THE CLOSEST
+Tanaka Yoshi
