Mike, my family came from the mid eastern section of Tennessee and even there in those days it was a violent place. There's no reason for me to believe that the area the pusser story took place wasn't just as violent long before his legend began, and whatever happened- or didn't actually happen- was more commonplace than the rest of the country could comprehend.

W.R. Morris wrote in The Twelfth of August that the state liners dumped the bodies of their victims in the Tennessee River. The is absolutely no proof of this. Likewise, there is no proof that Buford was ever beaten, cut up and robbed as was shown in the movies...,if fact, during Pusser's time as sheriff there were only two state liners left in the story, Louise Hathcock and Towhead White. Towhead was arrested in another county for moonshining just eight months into his first term as sheriff. Pusser killed Louise under questionable circumstances nine months later. Of his 6 years as sheriff, the state line existed 17 months with Pusser never shutting down a state line joint or sending a single state liner to prison.
Don't t believe what you saw in the movies.

Why would Buford allow the movie makers to put him getting beat up and cut up.That movie was part biography of his events as Sheriff and what happened before he became sheriff.Remember something Buford was a consultant and was there during the making of the first movie.???

It seems that there are no redeeming features about Buford? Are you going to turn your book Into a movie? Why would Billy Graham agree to be photographed with Buford? Are all the other people in the story upstanding law abiding citizens?

Hi Mike I absolutely love your videos and I'm in the process of binge watching them now. My Dad was Keith Moore and his Dad was McNairy County Judge Howard Moore and my Granddad on my Mom's side was Chief of Police Pee-Wee Sowell the longest serving deputy in the state of Tennessee. So I've lived my whole life feeling frustrated with not knowing how to feel on the subject because one side of my family thought Pusser was a hero while the other called him everything but a child of God. Also my Aunt Drunette Garrison has been married to O'Neal Garrison for over 50 years. Uncle O'Neal is Jamie Garrison's brother. So glad to see some people like yourself setting things straight. Because youre absolutely right....THE TRUTH HAS NO AGENDA. (love that btw).
And speaking of the truth, I was quite young when my father Keith passed away in 1987 and Grandpa Howard passed in 1982 so if anyone has any stories good or bad or pictures of either one I would be so grateful for them to be shared with me. Keith was an only child and I was his only child so the buck kinda stopped with him. Mamaw Nancy died just a couple years ago but she moved to Murray KY and Arkansas so I didnt hear much from her after that.

My sister married Pete after he and Pauline divorced, I even spent time with them in Chicago Heights. I would bet money he never ever hit my sister. That was many years ago, my sister has since passed away. Pete showed us around Chicago, we went to the museum, Wrigley Field, the loop, O'Hara airport and many more places. I was about 15 years old, my sister was the oldest in the family and I was the baby with 3 more siblings in the middle.

And at the same time, Pete had almost nothing to do with either Mike or Diane after Pauline divorced him. Pauline had another daughter Karen who as mentally and p[physically challenged once born. The Mullins family believes this was the result of Pauline being beaten and kicked by Pete while she was pregnant.

I don't have a clue about how Pete treated Pauline, I just know how he was with my sister. I ran across a photo the other day of Brenda at her and Pete's home at Christmas, Pete had gotten her lots of nice gifts. Brenda was even modeling a fur coat, ugh!! Pre Peta. I can only remember her mentioning Pete's kids a few times. They spent a lot of time fishing in Montana and other states with Jr and June.

Where is there any record of Buford being beaten and cut up at the Plantation Club. There ae no police report, medical reports, photographs or witnesses of the event. Why is it that no one in Adamsville, a town of fewer than 1,000 residence back then, who remembers Buford with a head full of stitches? That would have been the talk of the town had it actually happened. I'm not related to anyone in the story. My question for you his, why are you defending his FALSE legend?

All of the other wounds he had were thought to be self inflicted as they were all non serious wounds. The first doctor to tend to him in Memphis suggested that this wound was also self inflicted. It was his chin, not his jaw, that was struck as the movies indicated. Many people familiar with the alleged ambush think he was attempting to give himself another superficial wound but miscalculated the trajectory and the muzzle velocity of the gun being used. He was back on the job in just 18 days. Pauline on the other hand had nothing left of her head but her face according to Bill Way who took photos for his newspaper as well as TBI's Warren Jones.. McNairy County Coroner Ward Moore concurred, saying he spent eight hours rebuilding the top and back of her head to have something to put a wig on for the funeral. I interviewed both of these men. Don't believe what you saw in the movies. They were only 15% accurate at best.
