  • A short clip of Oscar Sullivan from 'CFR Getting Together' series, Oscar was part of the Lonzo & Oscar duo who back in 1947 had that huge hit 'I'm My Own Grandpa' which Oscar performs by himself in this short video clip, this incredible man was nearly 93 years old when he did this performance, all I can say is they don't make them like this anymore!!

I discovered this video last night, and it was a hoot ! Plus I was really surprised to see that the drummer was none other than my high school, school mate. And a good friend ever since ( We graduated back in 1970) from Elizabethton High school in northeastern TN, Mr. John Gardner. He has always been a great drummer, and has played in many places in the world. And was even the drummer for the legend Don Williams.

The good ole days , If we could get back to the basics of loving God, staying close to our loved ones, caring and Sunday family dinners. All Kids playing out in the yard. You can drive around in the warm weather and not see any kids in their yards playing. The internet , and playing these games on the tv. And we wonder why our world is the way it is ! So sad.

The question, They don't write em like that anymore? really sums up just how much of a real treasure, these performers of the past really are and were. There will be past creations of talent, so extreme in every category of the arts, that have fallen by the wayside and will fade away for eternity. Let this song become a warning to preserve and teach the past, or you'll never know your history or how you got here. Peace be with you all! Remember, Preserve the arts! Jpol.

One of my maternal great-grandfathers almost did this. His last wife was a sister to a son-in-law of his and an aunt to a daughter-in-law. His daughter-in-law told him he would be his own grandpa if he wasn't more careful about who married. That wife was also a first cousin to another son-in-law and that son-in-law's father (my maternal grandfather and his father, my other maternal great-grandfather). Maybe he was his own grandpa after all, I am glad he didn't have any kids with her.

No problems the saddest part of watching talents like Oscar is many of the people that have been included in these CFR shows have now gone home over 30 now since the original tapings in 1997, Oscar died not that long after this show was taped, and the new entertainers saying they're country singers can't hold a torch to talents like this, CFR has just done a show 'A Tribute To Merle Haggard' another true legend! Marty Haggard - Mama's Hungry Eyes ua-cam.com/video/g3Pc8veSYB0/v-deo.html

Yes so true , and so sad , I was lucky enough to see Little Jimmy Dickens at the Ryman and he was cookin. Oscar Sullivan was such a great mandolin player and how many 92 year olds could sing 'I'm my own grandpa' , I would say just one Mr Oscar Sullivan. Ive made a documentary about Stringbean for free public viwing on U Tube ...and I'm currently making a documentary about the history of Lonzo(s) and Oscar , best wishes Phil

They certainly don't make people like this anymore! Oscar died not that long after the taping of this show, Larry Black the man who produced the 'Country Family Reunion' series was so smart in recording all these country super talking and singing together, in excess of 30 of these stars have gone home since the very 1st recording in 1997 so this CFR series was certainly a brainwave to say the least, especially classics like this one Jean Sheppard and Ferlin Huskey - Dear John ua-cam.com/video/Mac5tUJ5g4c/v-deo.html
