    I have never used Campy, but when I first started watching this I thought this was so extra, until he showed how ez it is to swap bearings. This would be such a cheap way to keep the crankset alive forever without breaking the bank. Other than the tools.

    Another campagnolo mystery solved. Seems straight forward repair for anyone who is mechanically experienced.

      Actually this is the PROPER way a bearing should be installed if you want long bearing life, unlike other systems where the bearings are pressed into the cups (Shimano, Sram) the bearings here are on the spindle just as a bearing is designed to fit (inner race interference fit, rather than an interference fit on the outer race compressing the bearing).

    • @rogerzheng2814
      @rogerzheng2814 3 роки тому +1

      @@PoltergeistWorks I don't see why these two fitting systems would result in different bearing life.
      With either inner fit or outer fit, the bearings rollers are compressed against both the inner and outer walls.
      With proper installation, both systems should have even pressure distribution.

    Thanks for the great vid, uninstalling the cranks was no problem however re-installing is proving more difficult - after aligning there is still a bit of play in the cranks and the bolt once tightened doesn’t hold in the cranks - any ideas what could be causing this? Thanks I’m advance!

      Did u put the wavy washer on the non-drive side?

  • @strindberg8764
    @strindberg8764 3 роки тому +1

    Weird thing. Just did this on my factory installed Record 11 speed (2014 generation) crankset and there was a wavy washer on both sides + another washer (?) on the drive side that looked like an undersized bearing protection lid. Any idea why? I put it back as it was, but should I have removed all the washers and only leave one washer like in this video? Thank you for great content. Park Tools grease is the best!

    • @martinhartmann3121
      @martinhartmann3121 2 роки тому +4

      There is a hambini video on ultra torque cranks that explains how the wavy washer cannot always compensate frame production tolerances. I would imagine the person who assembled your bike did not get a satisfactory result with 1 wavy washer.

  • @leporello7

    Thanks for the helpful video! Is there a reason why the teeth connecting the two parts of the spindle are not greased? Would that be harmful?

    • @parktool
      @parktool  3 роки тому +4

      Grease is not needed, but would not be harmful. The crank stays tight from the tension on the bolt. Grease these if you like.

      @@neytiritetskahamoatite7688 You can use most bearing pullers to perform this job. You may have to grind down the teeth on the puller arm to a better fit under the bearing. Go to a plumber and ask for a piece of tube, inner diameter 26mm, length maybe 15cm, made from steel if possible. Maybe you already know that Campagnolo has a great deal of their manufacturing in Romania?? Rgr

    i am upgrading a c-record era bike. it has the old adjustable cone and cup. is it possible to upgrade the bb to ultra torque? you didn't show that part of the reinstallation.

    • @parktool
      @parktool  11 днів тому

      You can run a Ultra torque bottom bracket on your C-record era bike. You would of course need an Ultra Torque crankset to make it worth it as your C-Record crank is not an ultra torque.

    hello, Is it the same procedure for the Campagnolo daytona crankset?

  • @chriswatson2207
    @chriswatson2207 Рік тому +1

    hello, my new bearings have a sealed red/ brown side and an open side that can be greased, and a separate black rubber outer seal . does it matter which way round the sealed bearings fit ? The outer rubber seal fits neatly over the open side so I put this facing outwards. Afterwards i checked older 10 sped cranks, they are fitted other way round. After using the park slide hammer in video , the crank bearings feel stiffer than before and no longer spin freely, with new bearings and cups installed . Should I remove bearings and reverse them? I think pressing the bearings with a threaded tool like your excellent headset press tool instead of hammering would be safer.

    • @parktool
      @parktool  Рік тому +2

      The open face of the bearings should be facing inwards. The bearing setter that comes in the CBP-8 only contacts the inner race of the bearing. That means it does not put damaging forces on the bearing and cannot hurt the bearing. Using a press for these bearings is extremely difficult being that you have to reach over the axle.

    • @ChrisWatsonCC
      @ChrisWatsonCC Рік тому +1

      @@parktool So do you recommend I remove and reverse my bearing with the park kit ? 2 other manufacturers make a bearing installer press . I’m concerned pulling it off once & hammering it twice will damage the new bearing .

    I'm working with the Campagnolo Super Record crankset. The chain is wrapped around bb/cranks, so must pull cranks to unwrap chain. However @1:16, the driveside is not removable by hand. What is the procedure for removing drive side crank??

    • @parktool
      @parktool  2 роки тому +2

      The Super Record uses a titanium bolt that is left hand threaded. There is a clip on the drive side bb adapter. Use pliers to pull this free and off.
