  • Here's another project for a DIY Necklace and is also next in the KISP series (keep it simple projects). KISP uses simple techniques to make projects that make you look like a pro even if your just a Beginner. This tutorial teaches you how to create a Gemstone Toggle Necklace. With beads, or even crystals you can have your own unique accessory that is tailored to your personality. You need very little wire wrapping skills and minimal tools to achieve this project. So let's get started!

    For the Necklace in the tutorial I used 27, 5mm faceted agate beads, 3 feet of 24 gauge gold plated wire, 1 20mm heart shaped Toggle clasp and 1, 8mmx8mm blue chalcedony briolette, 1, 12mm x 10mm citrine briolette and 1, 8mmx8mm smoky quartz briolette as well as 6, 5mm jump rings for a finished necklace that measures 18 inches. It literally cost just few dollars to make! This necklace would look amazing with wooden beads or pearls, bigger beads will give a chunkier necklace and smaller a more delicate look, the choice is yours. If you don’t like the briolettes feel free to leave them out, the Toggle can be the show piece on its own.

      Happy belated Birthday, sorry it was tough. I’ve definitely had those kinds of birthdays where you kind of wonder what happened but usually the following year is better, or at least that’s been my experience. I’m sorry that it’s been tough for you, sending you many blessings for you and Echo to have good health and happiness, you guys deserve it.
      My Mom is good, flying around on 2 new knees, it was a rough year for her having 2 surgeries but now that it’s all over she’s so happy she did it because she feels alive again since her arthritic pain is so much better. Take good care of yourself and Echo, and I hope you have a happy holiday season too. All the best, Denise.

    Hi Denise this is a great video! I noticed you said to cut a length of wire 1.5 feet for the briolettes. I don’t know what length of wire to cut when making the loops for the beads. Can you please let me know? Thank you so much! Can’t wait to make this beautiful necklace!

      I used 3 feet for the entire necklace so you could cut 1.5 feet, but there is usually a little leftover since it’s difficult to get exact measurements since everyone wraps a little differently, but hopefully it’s close 😊

    Thank you for your wonderful tutorials. I've noticed that you use a Silpat mat as your bead mat. Why do you like to use it instead of the usual bead mats? Does it keep the beads from rolling around?

      I’ve used a lot of different types of bead mats and Silpat, or any type of silicon baking mat, really works well and like you said, it keeps the beads from rolling around. 😊

    Beautiful Denise! I had a thought about that briolette wrap. I may want to wrap a little hook in that shorter piece of wire before I wrap it up tight just to prevent it from slipping out of the wrap. Am I over thinking it? Are there so many wraps it wouldn’t matter? Thanks for a great tutorial!

    • @DeniseMathew
      @DeniseMathew  5 років тому +1

      Usually that’s only a problem if you don’t wrap it down the briolette much but usually the wraps are tight enough to hold it together but if it’s loose you may have that issue. Alternately you can give the 2 wires (long and short) a very slight twist together, not too much because it can wire harden too much and snap, this will give you the added security, hope this is helpful, 😊

    Have you ever made one of these for someone whose hair Always covers the back of her neck and modified it to have a short length of chain in the back? Or do you prefer to use wood beads or something similarly inexpensive to maintain the feel of the necklace all the way around?

    • @DeniseMathew
      @DeniseMathew  5 років тому +2

      You could definitely use chain at the back if you want if you’re saving on wire and beads, or inexpensive beads. I would probably use beads that match the whole color theme because every necklace I know always has a way of turning around 😊 These beads are quite inexpensive, only $5 for a whole string so it’s no problem to use them all the way around, but if I’m low on beads or want to save money I will add in pieces of chain or as you say inexpensive beads that look good and match the theme, I use them the whole way through and incorporate them into the design. Hope this helps.
