I'm very thankful for this comprehensive video on growing these orchids, there is very little information out there on these. I must say though I'm quite intimidated now about growing them and I probably shouldn't have made an order in the middle of winter, they're coming in bareroot in a few days haha..

I potted it up in regular orchid barks, I think I should look for the right media to repot them. Thank you for the information
I'm Michael. If the plants are okay, wait until the spring to repot them. It might take you a while to hunt down these materials. They are hard to find outside of Japan and Korea.
You may buy kanuma soil in Canada.(Bonsai stores) and you may add hosticultural sand and small charcoal and or little lavarocks On another note I just reached out to Mukoyam orchids (manufacturer of the famous molcoat fertilizer They use only bark and moss for all their cymbidiums

I'm Michael, I use a different handle on youtube. The potting materials are: hard kanuma 硬質鹿沼土、fired akadama 焼き赤玉土、and hyuuga 日向土。About the ratio, I buy ready-to-use bags in Japan, so I don't really know the precise ratio. As long as you use these materials (you must use them to get the best results), and follow the basic culture guidlines, it will be fine.
Cymbidium species orchids was the first orchid that cultured and appreciated by human being more than two thousand years ago. Very love these orchids for its modest and elegant ❤️
So I grew up from the region where C goeringii natively grow (my grandpa used to take the soil from the hills where wild C goeringii were found to grow his orchids). We have monsoon season between spring and summer that rains everyday 24 hrs for a month. Makes you wonder how they survive in the wild like that? lol My grandpa told me the reason Chinese people value C goeringii the most is because its flower stalks do not grow above the leaves, which fits Chinese traditional morality. He also disliked kanran due to the same reason.
Container culture is a very different environment than open nature and in most cases, the container is a more stressful environment than the wild. For example, having the roots constrained in volume within the container means that water availability and soil temperature fluctuate far more than a plant growing in the ground might ever experience. These fluctuations are stressors that make plants more sensitive in container culture than in the ground. That's why a C. goeringii does fine in a monsoon environment...the roots are able to spread out in a large soil volume which gives them access to water held deep in the soil (even if it does not rain for a long while) and the roots are protected from soil temperature fluctuations that a container cannot.
Yes, Japanese books and magazines provide a lot of information. The Japanese books are very detailed and repetitive and tells you the same thing over and over again; unlike the Chinese books, they don't tell you anything useful. All the information is from Japanese books/magazines and also Japanese Cymbidium vendor, very helpful and detailed orientated.

If you put into pumice it is less acidic and nutritious than kanuma The Japanese add MagAmp fertilizer to kanuma

There are many’s people plant it in USA now
They are using cloning techniques in China right now. Cymbidiums are easily cloned in the USA
