I have seldom been moved like I have from watching this video. I am a little embarrassed to admit it, but I stopped brushing my dogs teeth so I could watch it with my kids.
We later called grandma and told her we would be home for Christmas.

The fact that an Irish tourist would come to the USA to buy Lucky Charms is the news that I didn't know that I needed, and it put a smile on my face and chuckle in my heart.
Me too 😊
I think it was a joke
I would like to know why she likes Lucky charms. I don't think I've eaten this cereal since I was 5 years old!!
@@davidmartin8211 the actual taste is nothing special, the marshmallows and the leprechaun on the box are the only things noteworthy
@@oaktree1628 "the actual taste is nothing special, the marshmallows and the leprechaun on the box are the only things noteworthy"
Maybe it's the leprechaun. And the green clover marshmallows.
An Irish woman buying Lucky Charms when she visits America... 🤣
They're always after me lucky charms☘
The White Strips were stolen a lot so they decided to lock them up. But for a while the mug shots of the thieves all had really nice smiles.
😂😂😂
The type of thieves that steal those RESELL them on Amazon, ebay, etc
Either that or you could tell they smoked methamphetamine! One of the two. 😆
The White Stripes were locked up but Jack was able to escape. Nobody has seen Meg though for a very long time.
The next time you’re here, try and find someone with a Costco membership. Costco does carry Crest white strips (sometimes they’re on sale!) and some of your other items. Costco has their own in-store brand called Kirkland which is very high quality at a much lower price. Sam’s Club is another membership store over here that probably has similar items as well.
Ma'am, do you have anything to declare? "They ARE always after me lucky charms!"
European Customs: “Ma’am, do you have anything to declare before we open your bag?”
Diane: “Yes. I’m an over-the-counter drug smuggler.”
Diane: Just don't touch me Lucky Charms!
@@Sir_Scrumpalicious they are always after those.
😆
She needs to fly into London. Dye her hair. Fly to Northern Ireland. Dye her hair again. Then, in the dead of night, sneak across the border il into Ireland. Simple!!!
😳🤣
I expect to see Diane on an episode of Airport Security Spain for illegal smuggling of white strips and cereals 😂
My in-law would bring the Hidden Valley Ranch packets to their friends in Europe for ranch dressing.
As a Midwestern I QUIT! Bring the asteroid. European’s are sneaking Ranch?😢

NyQuil! The "sniffling, sneezing, coughing, achy head. how did I end up on the kitchen floor?" medicine.
That's why in the commercials they show people taking it next to their bed. 🤒 🛌 😂
That gives you wild, vivid dreams
RIP Louie Anderson
@@Dularr No kidding. I took the real strength NyQuil when I was like 10. Fucked me up so bad. Slept that night on the floor of my closet. What a ride.
One NyQuil, two NyQuil, three NyQuil-floor!
Diane has obviously been using those white strips. The company should give her a lifetime supply and use her as a model.
"We have a 4hr layover in the USA, do you want to do something while we wait?"
"Is there a CVS or Walgreens nearby?".
and the answer is yes.
Crest Whitening Pens are really nice to have too. You just "paint" your teeth with the brush in the "pen" before you go to bed and brush it off in the morning. Super quick, no sitting around with the strips on your teeth for an hour. Smaller too, you only have to use them for 1 week to have white teeth for months.
If you look at labels, a lot of the generic versions have all of the same active ingredients of the name brand items. Still I like to go with the house brands for large chain stores rather than the generic brands in dollar stores and independent shops. The chains have a reputation and large buying power so I think they make sure their generics are good.
If you don't want to waste time comparing labels during your vacation, those chain stores usually have a product page with the active ingredients listed and even reviews so you can shop before you get here or even use a grocery delivery service to do all the shopping for you and deliver it to your hotel or wherever you are staying.
One thing, I think Sudafed is the best "over the counter" decongestant but to get products that contain pseudo-ephedrine you have to present ID at a pharmacy so you probably have to go to the store to get that and a few other OTC drugs that require ID. Also generic pseudo-ephedrine seems to work just as well as name brand although the pills usually aren't coated and taste a bit nasty going down.
One night we're gonna see her on the news because TSA arrested her for smuggling... Diane Escobar.
For the coffee creamer, get a small thing of masking tape and tape the top shut to ensure it wont pop open and maybe even toss it into a ziplock bag to double protect your stuff in the bag.
Or D. Chapo! 😆
Ok..things I didn't know were good until I started dating an Irish American girl. Her parents from Sligo and Galway. Irish Butter (Kerry Gold), better then any I ever had. Taytos potato chips aka crisps Cheese and Onion OMG. Soda Bread so much much better, Irish boiling Bacon, Boxty unreal potato pancakes l, and a traditional Irish breakfast. So while I may not fill my suitcase up when I'm in Limerick I've come to seek these out in the states and in my trips to the Emerald Isle, cheers from Boston.
Nothing better than Nyquil, when you're sick.
Alka Selzer severe cold. My go to.
One thing better than Nyquill when sick is to get well. :)
When people come and visit me in France, I have them bring me a big jar of Advil, Sunbutter-peanut butter substitute made from sunflower seeds-and dry ranch powder.
Dry Ranch powder packets, that's my top purchase for bringing back to Europe. They've become expensive but life without Ranch would suck.
Gotta have some nice sour-cream-and-Ranch dip with veggies or potato chips every once in awhile!
During my times in Europe, I was always on or near a U.S. military base, so I could get those kinds of things at the base exchange.
Lucky ducky
Diane, maybe you should make a couple of U. S. military friends in the U. K. They could buy these things at the commissary for you.
Yeah at the base in Germany you can even buy American cars like Ford Mustangs etc. Also a lot of US restaurants on the Rammstein Base.
@@boroblueyes She lives in Spain. She should go down to Cadiz and see if she could befriend with an American stationed or living off base at the Rota Naval Base.

If it wasn't so heavy, a garbage disposal would be a fine "souvenir" to bring back to Ireland.
Not worth it. It's essentially an electric motor with blades attached - in the wrong voltage.
1990's Nyquil was even stronger. Due to Breaking Bad-sequel uses of Ephedrine HCl (Sudafed) it's now regulated OTC in the US, so the decongestant part was replaced by one that doesn't work better than placebo.
BTW, Nyquil/Dayquil is basically a cocktail of multiple active ingredients plus some alcohol. For instance, the trade name of the analgesic part (acetaminophen) is Tylenol. This means you sometimes need to be careful you don't overmedicate since you may doubling up your dosage if you take it along with something like Tylenol or whatnot.
This. There have been isolated cases of people taking way too much tylenol by accident this way and needing a new liver.
Dang meth cookers screwing things up for the rest of us
Prices have gone up on a lot of stuff in the US, especially over the last couple of years. (Also, target tends to be higher priced than a lot of other places). As for store brands, they're very often the exact same product as rhe name brands, just with a different label. A lot of them are even made by the same people.
Traveller tip: When I travel with large liquids in my checked baggage, I put them in an air-tight vacuum bag (like the ones you connect a vacuum to compress fabric items) That way if it leaks or bursts, it will be contained to that bag.
The only thing I missed when I was working in Clonmel Ireland that I didn't realize how much I like is ranch dressing, I was dumfounded when I got chicken at KFC in Clonmel and they didn't even know what ranch was.
I was expecting her to say "Ranch dressing seasoning packets" when I read the title, before realizing she's not American. The make-at-home packets are perfect for air travel, they don't weigh down your luggage. However most Europeans consider Ranch vile.
That's one reason I will live in the U.S. the rest of my life. Pizza, wings, and everything else w/ Ranch!
After years of traveling to Europe, the Only things I need to take with me are Electronics. Memory cards, my own Cameras, chargers, laptop or Tablet. Once I get to there I hit the local supermarket, Gadis, Dia, Sainsbury, Sigma, Pam, Eroski, etc etc. I dont speak French or Italian but Ive always gotten along fine.
If you ever buy jewelry in America just wear it on the flight back. There are people out there whose job is wearing jewelry to avoid customs. Put a bottle of creamer or two inside a large ziplock bag, then all that inside another, and if it does burst, it will all stay inside the bag.
Jewelry? I didn’t know that. I have bought jewelry, but… To be fair it’s just sparkly tin stuff.😂

I visited a friend in Hungary back in the 90’s. Half of my suitcases was filled with stuff she couldn’t get. Now this was also when Hungary had just said no to communism so they didn’t have a lot. I remember bringing her salad dressings, vhs movies, peanut butter, etc.
It always brightens my day to see the products I can only get here. I always think about the stuff you can only get in other nations but very seldom do I hear about the stuff only available here.
There's Ross, TJMaxx, and Marshalls. All three sell similar stock. Marshalls also has a store called Home Goods for home furnishings but you wont fit that in your carryons unless you are looking for things like towels. Although, they do have some pet supplies.
Flamin Hot Cheetos used to be available in only a few states. My friends here in Colorado were addicted to them, and every time I went home to Texas, I had to fill up the car with bags and bags of it. I felt like a smuggler.
I was about to comment on the nutritional value of Lucky Charms & Reese Puffs but then realized the first thing I do when clearing Dublin Airport is find a "full Irish" breakfast. So who am I to talk.
Many things are being locked up in stores now a days because local DAs refuse to prosecute shoplifters.
This American girl, when she is in UK / Ireland the first thing I do is go straight to Boots and buy handfuls of the store brand lip balm! Just the plain old blue tube, none of the other flavors / colors needed. It is 1000 times better than any brand of lip balm / chapstick we have in the U.S.!!!
Surprised Tide to go pens are not more available!! They are such a saving grace for us clumsy folks 😂
No kidding!😆
The store brand strips work just as well and still perform far better than whats available in UK
You can totally do coffee creamers. I carry them to missionary families that are abroad and I put them in gallon ziploc bags in case they spill and put them in my clothes so not to get smashed. Have yet to have one burst. I also bring back highland sparkling water the same way bc I can’t get that here in the states!
My girlfriend who has lived in Paris- now the outskirts- since the late 1980’s- the one thing she always sticks up on before going home is cosmetics & skin care- the kind you can buy from Target, etc.
she says like. $7 mascara is way more over there. So like a Cover Girl brand or Maybelline, etc. And also skin care products.
One of the many things I have learned from viewing content creators from around the world is how privileged Americans are with choice. Anything we wish to buy, we have several different brands and multiple variations within that brand from which to choose. There are 32 different flavors of Mountain Dew for an example.
Because we have a consumerist culture.
Truly
And yet I can never find the kind of Dew I like best!
That’s hardly a plus point.

Flonase is a really good nasal decongestant.
NyQuil is my go to the SECOND I sneeze, cough, or feel a scratchy throat coming on, I’ll take a shot of it and go to sleep. It knocks whatever it is out! 👍
Purple for the lights. Burlington Coat Factory is a good place to shop for anything besides groceries, since they don't have them.
Nyquil is a miracle drug, that's for sure.
"She's after me Lucky Charms!"
I loved living in Ireland but despised how many stores I had to visit to buy items. I went to four different stores to get a certain hot sauce. Some of the food at the store was better, but I always had to spend a full day grocery shopping.
You can always go for the Generic or Store brand when it comes to over the counter medicine in the US. The only major difference is the packaging.
You can try the flavored creamer in different flavors in powder form. Put equal amount of powder and distilled water in a blender and mix for 40 seconds. Liquid creamer is ready. You can also buy them in single variety packs package. Much easier to bring than the big liquid containers.
even living in Canada, we always have our favourite things we have to get when we go down south, but our family in the states always ask for things from here that aren't sold there. melatonin is one of them, popcorn twists, kit kats, smarties, mackintosh toffee, twizzlers/nibs, aero, cadbury chocolate, mr. big and wunderbar, ketchup chips, hickory sticks and munchies- aren't sold or suck in 'merica.
and I always have my favourite things in Europe too! makes travelling even more fun.
We do have ketchup chips in the US.
And Kit Kats, twizzlers, and Cadbury.
Coffee creamers. Put in ziplock bags, then wrap in clothing.
With her luck customs would think she was smuggling booger sugar LOL
Great video Diane!
I guessed most of them!
It’s a dangerous little game still…
Real cream tastes far better and is cheap in Europe but may not be in Spain as not noted for dairy products.
Thats what I was going to say. I do it all the time when I travel to Scotland.
You should put the creamers in a Zip Lock bag before you pack your luggage.
Melatonin typically is effective in small doses - like 1 to 3 mg for most people. Overly large doses (10 mg and up) can actually keep you awake.
I take 5 mg about an hour before I go to sleep, and it works pretty good. When I first started taking it, I was only taking 400 micrograms, but that wasn't enough.
1-3 would be a good dose to start with.
We give our autistic son 10mg every night or he won't sleep at all.
Thank you. You want like 3 mg max. The only reason that I chime in, is because I started using it when i was young to learn how to lucid-dream. Read about it in a Dr. office then went at it. If you are healthy, you should generate a normal level of melatonin daily. Once I achieved lucidity and had control, it wasn't about sleeping. Math and discipline. You can achieve amazing things in slumber.
Came here to say that. Smaller doses actually seem to work better for me. I actually get the kid's gummies that are .5mg/gummy (package says 1mg with 2 gummies being the normal dose), and it works great. That larger doeses only seem to make me wake up in the middle of the night.
My husband has worked his way up to 20mg, I told him his body has probably gotten used to it and it's not doing anything but make him sleepy during the day (still can't sleep at night)
Your content makes me smile. I enjoy watching you smile and having a positive upbeat attitude.
The background lights are looking 👌🏻! Just one of your many great ideas.
I had a little help from my friends 😉

I remember when all foreigners wanted was to go to outlet malls and buy jeans!
Prices are sky rocketing over here in the USA. Also, whiting strips used on a regular bases will strip the enamel off of your teeth but one once ever couple weeks to a month is fine. I chuckled at lucky charms.
Nice video - did you know - that coffee creamers come - Dry/dehydrated/powdered so you can put a whole heaping box in your luggage...
Good to know that we are not the only country that uses way to many pharmaceuticals ...
Coffee creamers have a protective seal so it shouldn't spill.
I just got back from a trip to the UK. I’m from the USA. Soda or pop was not exactly soda pop, and chips not exactly chips. That being said nothing I ate made me feel sick. The food prepared was excellent even from a gas station!
LOL! Lucky Charms has been around since I was a kid and I am 62 now. It makes sense because there has been a strong Irish genetic population and ethnicity here since right
before the U.S. Civil War. Americans probably believe more in Leprechauns than the Irish do. But having never been to Ireland I'm not sure. Certainly we celebrate Saint Paddy''s day while Ireland doesn't.
I love your accent- it reminds me of my late Irish Nana. Stern woman until she got a little tipsy.
Then she would say things like " Lad, if I kissed your are, you would complain me lips were chapped" and then tells us the funniest jokes about leprechaun nuns and Irish Priests and the truck driver.
When Diane comes home from America, there is stuff she brings
It includes lots cereal and a shit-ton of pharmaceutical things
I have no idea how your suitcase can hold such a massive stockpile
And I enjoyed your use of the word “penultimate”, it’s been a while
Canada is our armpit! Lol J/K Canadians we love you guys!
America Junior. Lol
Oh girl! Get the Shout wipes instead of Tide pen! They work SOIO much better. Believe me, I’m a stain factory. Also, I work at a boutique and got red ink out of a white shirt. I couldn’t believe it. Trust me on this one!
We used to go to Canada from the US all the time because my families are there. We always brought home maple syrup, butter tarts, and Hostess chips because they had ketchup and pickle flavors.
Pre-TSA, my aunt brought home to San Diego, a suitcase filled with frozen "Tom Tom Tamales," which can't be bought outside of the Chicago area. The same goes for Green River and Diet Chocolate Fudge soda.
DayQuil/NyQuil: contains a pain reliever, and usually some combination of decongestant, cough suppressant, and/or mucus thinning drug. The nighttime ones have an antihistamine that makes you really sleepy and can help dry up a runny nose. Basically they help treat symptoms until your cold has run its course. They don’t actually cure them, but they do make things a little easier.
Neti pot rinse recipe. 1 cup water (as close to body temperature as possible), 1/4 tsp non iodized salt (kosher or sea salt).
Thank you so much for sharing these things Diane!
Hope you enjoyed it
We also buy cereal to bring back to America when we visit Ireland - you guys have Rice Krispies and Corn Flakes that are gluten free. In America, they have malt, which is no good for people with celiac disease.
I work at Tjmaxx in North Carolina and I haven't encountered anyone with a British, Irish, etc accent come in the store. I would love that, though.
It's so interesting the different perspectives on government regulations. It seems like in Europe a lot of people appreciate the fewer rules in America, but here a lot of people think it should be more restrictive. I love the health consciousness of Europe, but I love our freedom of choice in America. I just have to do a lot of research to find the healthy and non-toxic options here.
I knew it would be Lucky Charms!! Love them 😊
Regarding cheap designer stuff, next time you come to the USA, skip TJ Maxx and Ross. Instead, go to Nordstrom Rack and Saks off Fifth. Great stuff at those stores!
Have to say, this is one of the most interesting videos I've seen yet and have not thought about just how much some of our stuff is craved even when our world is a globalized market. Just makes me appreciate more of the little things we take for granted, thank you for sharing!
Everything seems to be locked up now. Baby formula, laundry detergent, vitamins. But not the thieves who steal them 😋 Our Target opens the cabinets during certain times of the day. I guess when thieves are brunching? But seriously, those are necessities so I get it. Gives me ideas of what to donate to food banks/shelters.
A friend of mine makes me bring her double stuff Oreos to Iceland. I guess they are just not the same.
Cinnamon Toast Crunch....you're missing out.
Get your Dr. Bronner's from TJ Max or Marshalls. You'll get it for even cheaper. For me, right or or wrong, I don't leave Europe without foie gras... so much cheaper there!
Diane, may I suggest that the next time you are in the states that you go to a Walmart and purchase you special items. There they will be less expensive than most other places and you can increase the amount of items that you buy.
If you are afraid the creamers will spill in your luggage, put them in a ziplock baggy, and they will be fine.
Happy Monday Diane! I had to update my car insurance so my agent said this new policy would give me blanket coverage. I said, "No sheet?" Boop!
Please be careful that, if you're taking multiple types of cold medicines, they don't contain the same stuff so that you're not getting too much. Please start visiting places other than the usual tourist places, say for example Vermont, Kentucky and so on. That said, I recommend Boston.
Coffee creamer: Unscrew the lid put a baggie or cling film over the top, screw the lid back on, no spills. Cap'n Crunch peanut butter flavor is massively better than Reeses, just saying.
Ha, my wife is European, and all of our trips back to the US are about TJMaxx.
For things like the cereal, and other large, lightweight items, have you ever considered mailing them to yourself? The US post office has boxes that could probably hold 4-8 boxes of cereal. Parcel post (or 3rd class) rates are relatively inexpensive. Now, you may have to pay a customs fee, but it shouldn't be too much. You might look at packages sent from the US to you that had various food items and see if the customs charges are probative.
For whitening strips, you can do what you want, but I'd be careful. My neighbor is in his mid 50s and he's literally going in next week to have all of his teeth pulled. The dentist told him that it was because he used whitening strips so much, that it destroyed the enamel on his teeth and caused them to die (regularly for 15 years, I honestly didn't even realize they had been around that long). I wasn't there so I'm hearing his version; so take that for what it is. But I've always thought those strips can't be good for your teeth, especially if you use them often. And this certainly didn't dispell that thought.
Your right the DayQuil and especially NiteQuil are the best when severely ill..
Coffee creamer also comes in powdered form, so maybe try and see if you like it as much as the liquid version for less risky transport. Just make sure to keep it in the original packaging because off white powder in a Ziploc might get flagged by security.
3:24 YES, I usually will grab some Excedrine & Pepto, neither available in Oz
btw, I love the word "penultimate" one of my favorites and rarely used. just sayin lol
And used incorrectly as "the very top" more often than it is used correctly like Diane used it here to mean "the one just below ultimate."
🤣 You are soooooooo funny! This was entertaining.
I was just in Ireland over St. Patrick’s Day with our high school marching band who were there to perform in a few St. Patrick’s Day Parades throughout Ireland. I had always heard EU portion sizes were much smaller and I was excited because I felt like I could try lots of new foods and not be tempted to over indulge on huge portions! I might actually LOSE weight in Ireland I told myself 😂 uhhhhh…. So ya, Ireland did NOT get the memo on portion sizes LMAO. The soda sizes were smaller which was great but the BUCKET of Irish Stew was insane, Fish and Chips with TWO fillets larger than the plate they were served on and Ginormous slices of Irish Apple Pie smothered in cream and custard was crazy 😅 Did I eat them? Yes 🫤
Dogs have amazing hearing. They can hear the foot steps coming way ahead of us poor humans. Put the cereal near the sides of the box. Any creamer or Nyquil in the center wrapped in bubble wrap so it doesn't get crushed and become a big mess. Put THIS SIDE UP on the box as well in large print. And HANDLE WITH CARE BREAKABLES or FRAGILE.😅
Ah yes, Lucky Charms. Been eating those since way back when there only four different marshmellows in there.
I would love to see you do a visit to Canada, I'm American but I still think it would be a lot of fun to watch
For coffee, the fake flavored creamers have a lot of corn syrup in them. Just use regular cream - much healthier and it makes a rich, tasty cuppa joe.
You can get the individual coffee creamers… those won’t spill. Sometimes you see them on the tables in restaurants that are plain flavored, but in the grocery stores, they come in all kinds of flavors. They’re usually on the coffee aisle near the powdered creamers (which is also a good option for you) 🤟
The price of everything has increased significantly here in the U.S.
Thank you so much for this! I am leaving in a couple of days to stay in Ireland, because my husband is from there. But not sure for not sure how long yet because he doesn't know if he wants to stay there. But as soon as you said to get melatonin, I got nervous because I take it every night. I'm going to have to go get some extra before I leave. Also I grabbed the bottle of Nyquil, that I had given my daughter, off the medicine shelf and decided I'd take it with me. Geesh, I had forgotten how many things I can't get there. And paracetamol is the equivalent to Tylenol. I personally like paracetamol better because I feel like it's a bit stronger there. I had taken some Lemsip with it in it one time and boy was that stuff strong. It knocked me out all night. I really appreciate all of the information! 😊
🇨🇦 Thanks for understanding.
An Irish person smuggling Lucky Charms… the irony is not lost on me. I can still hear the leprechaun, with that awful Irish accent, during Saturday morning cartoons. “They’re magically delicious. “
