  • The Gigaset DX800A is a home office desk phone with many flexible features. In this video I pair it with my mobile phone, make a call from the desk phone using the mobile line, send a contact from the mobile phone to the desk phone by sharing a vcard, and wrap up the review.

This is excellent Rob, thanks for posting it. I am awaiting delivery of one of these units to use as a VoIP line, and also use with my mobile. I cannot get a mobile phone signal in my home office, so I have to leave the phone in the kitchen window. This will solve the problem of me constantly getting up from my desk to answer the bloody phone. Why no other phone manufacturer seems to offer this amount of connectivity in an office deskphone is beyond me - it has taken hours of internet searching to actually find this model, and once found I came across your videos relating to it.
Great series of videos, very clear, and precise. Thank you for doing them.

and what if I would like to receive a SMS, MMS or for example a message on Whatsapp? does this work? Can I use the stationary phone to call and answer calls, and still use all other mobile functions on my cell at the same time?

Hi, do you know if i can use all the other phone functions, including bluetooth, without connecting it to the fixed line?

Mateusz Felix Yes, you can use it as an IP phone or just as a Bluetooth handset for your mobile phone. Bluetooth, fixed and IP are just seen as separate lines.

Thanks for the video. It would be really useful to know how to make outgoing calls from a dect phone and be able to select the line. Do they need to be a particular model or will any GAP compatible phone work?

It's a good question. I have not tried any other DECT phone, just the Gigaset one, which has the line selection option. I'm not sure if that's a standard DECT feature or specific to this one, though.

My mum finds it hard to hear on mobiles and that combined with the cost of BT phone calls made me look at options along with the phasing out of pstn lines.
      Only 1 gsm link
I bought the DX800a as that seemed to be the only way to find out. I could not select the outgoing line with the non gigaset handsets. There were no command codes that I could see that could be dialled on the non gigaset basic dect phones to select the lines which have to have gsm or fixed line set.
I bought gigaset handsets c430hx also which allowed me to select the line.
I had to use the web interface to set the non gigaset dects to gsm (with fallback to landline pstn).
      Bluetooth
The bluetooth connection was ok with an old bush mobile android 4, but did not work well with another newer mobile which had issues when i called from 1 handset via the gsm to homeline number. I was surprised that it did not automatically reconnect when I took the mobile away and brought it back again even though left next to it.
I was also a little disappointed that it did not allow 2 mobiles to be linked as per panasonic versions available ( which i have since bought) and though it allows 5 or 6 mobiles to be paired only one can be connected for calls.
      Dialling plans
The gigaset dialling plan does not seem to work with non gigaset handsets from what I experienced with limited attempts ( i was trying to use this to select the outgoing line for the non gigaset handsets). (My answer is a bit long in case anyone else is helped by my answer).

Holy shit! Feature list reads so well, but ... in the end, the device is a pain in the ass! The software does not work as described, is poorly programmed (PC software), has poor bluetooth sound quality or has no connection to Bluetooth devices and / or Bluetooth headsets at all (and there is no compatibility list). Since ISDN is technically out of date, I hope that IP telephony will work when I need it. Basic functions with landline connections work flawlessly - however, an inexpensive telephone for $ 10 is sufficient for this function. Connecting a GSM phone to the device via bluetooth in particular is an interesting function because you can use the DX800A handset or a wired hands-free headset ... but it gives you a headache

fwiw we haven't had much trouble with it, but we are not using all the features all the time, and I can totally imagine stuff like Bluetooth could be hit and miss depending on what you're connecting to it.

This device was introduced 10 years ago and the last firmware update for this device was around 4 years ago (firmware build 175 I think).
Perhaps a third party app like this might help (no, I'm not affiliated, just considered it as a solution myself):
      www.rent-a-developer.de/Products/CallIt
Sometimes these might be helpful too:
      tapicall.com/en/to-inform/functions/
      tapicall.com/en/tapi-treiber/hersteller/gigaset/
tapidroid.de/ (if you're using a Maxwell 10, which is Android based)
      For even older devices: www.gtool.de/
Alternatively, one could just get a router with a built-in SIP PBX and a built-in DECT base and pair it with CAT-iq 2.0 compatible DECT phones and with softphones or smartphones using WiFi.
All configuration for VoIP would be done in the router and you'll have access to the router's address book as well, which in case of a suitable AVM Fritz!Box (like the 7490, 7590 or the 6890 LTE) can be synchronised with Google Accounts, CardDAV accounts, and supports a mesh configuration and DECT ULE for home automation as well. Messages on answering machine could be sent out as MP3 to an e-mail address if you wish.
This way, I even created a remote (meshed!) ISDN connection over my internal WiFi, which works very well as despite moving everything to VoIP, internally you can still keep using ISDN, analog, DECT or VoIP - such as your smartphone - regardless of how the router itself is connected. This allows a mix of whichever older phones and technologies you may have lying around. Smartphones can use WiFi and SIP directly on the router, older mobiles could pair with this Gigaset DX800a (or similar Bluetooth capable landline devices) using Bluetooth, which by itself can use either ISDN and VoIP or analog and VoIP to connect to that router. Any CAT-iq 2.0 compatible DECT handsets will be able to access the router's contact list.
      Compatibility list here:
      www.dect.org/cat-iq-certification.aspx
In my experience AVM Fritz!Box devices and Gigaset HX devices work well together, especially if they both support the CAT-iq 2.0 standard (or above), but Arcadyan or ASUS or any compliant one should work equally well. Consider CAT-iq a sort of expanded replacement for GAP with more mandatory compatibility features (in GAP a lot was optional, only pairing, making calls and receiving calls was mandatory). This may sound like an advert for an AVM device. It's not, but there are some compelling reaons. Just last Month, their 7490 router, which by now is 10 years old, still got an update. How many router manufacturers do you know that actually update their SOHO devices for longer than 2 Months after you buy them... not many. I would not go older than that, e.g. 7390 - though that one can serve as an encrypted DECT repeater too if you'd need one (not just as a router). Quite versatile.
Another alternative would be the Invoxia VoiceBridge (connect landline to device, then connect device to Internet, use a cloud connected app on smartphone to make and receive landline calls, simple), but I'm not sure if that device would still work if Invoxia ceased to exist or stop offering the service. No idea.

It's a shit product. In a world of plug & play does not communicate with the SALT modem no update since 2018 nor firmware update to forget the producer Gigaset and its products as quickly as possible.
