3:16 - Dublin to Gatwick flying with Dan Air £99 - that was a lot of money in 1985. Presumably a return flight? Maybe a one-way to England, which a lot of us did in the mid-80s?
1:48 unknown KD class bombardier being hooked up to a Leyland beaver tow unit by 2 members of the CIE mechanical staff and an inspector and Then towed back to its garage. Also interesting to see what of one of my favourite modern transport photography spots, college green /Westmoreland street, looked like back then.
@@Pfessor_MoriartyThey were a heap. I remember them entering service Clontarf garage 1981 replacing the last of the R900/RA class Titans and said like their earlier Vanhool AN68s more boring boxes on 6 wheels.
Ah my old bus the 20B from Beaumont to the city I used to get it at Collins Avenue West,Donnycarney or at the Malahide Road at Donnycarney church and into town I was 15 in 1985 I could have been on this bus in the film.
It could be that CIE wanted the KDs and KCs to stand out from the Atlanteans. Of course, two-tone green was eventually applied to the Ds and DFs that passed to Dublin Bus.
Caroline Mc Cormack same as you see in this film really. tan D class Leyland Atlanteans both PDR 3 and AN68 types and KD class bombardiers. in those fays the 46A only went as far as fleet street and didn't have the frequency the service has now .
Not anymore and is due to be demolished soon and the ugly building at the back Hawkins house office block is due to be pulled down soon enough as Apollo house around the corner on Tara Street has now been demolished.
Why did the D and DF leyland atlanteans remain in Tan, yet the KC and KDs carry two tone green? Surely as the AOA Atlanteans lost their ads, and were repainted, they could've gained Green? After all, Galway did repaint D480 into green in the same year as this video, 1985
The Latter D & DF Atlanteans (Reg No"s IK , ZD & ZU) were eventually painted the 2 tone Dublin Bus Green when CIE was Broken up into the 3 separate CIE Co"s The PDR D"s and DF"S soldiered on until 1995 outlasting even the Latter made Van Hool D Class Atlanteans..Galway City"s D72 was the last CIE Atlantean to hold on to its original Fibreglass frontage it was withdrawn from service in 1984 cf.broadsheet.ie/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/Greenbus.jpg www.flickr.com/photos/48073612@N04/5492829630/in/album-72157623892270901/
Did you ever see the KD in tan? It was awful. I read somewhere that CIE thought the same and decided to paint the KDs green. I always thought the Leyland Atlanteans looked so much better in tan, than they did in green!
Great video....But Jays was the 80s a bland era for Dublin's buses R's & RA's gone replaced by those horrid boxes on 6 wheels AN68 Vanhools & KD Bombardier crap What was left of the older CIE PDR Atlanteans fleet were Cannibalised by tin panels.
Agreed! The Bombardiers were probably the worst Looking if not made Buses CIE ever had anything to do with They were a disaster and the Noise from those Horrid 2 stroke Diesel Lumps they used.
Love watching these old videos of Dublin but God I can almost smell the diesel fumes from the busses 🤣
That cheered me up no end, could watch this type of retro stuff all day,
Great footage. Good to see all those bues,.
KD1 was actually delivered to CIE in allover tan. Was repainted green before entering service. Same was true of KC1, which was scrapped in 1997.

From memory Bombardier's broke down was a regular sight!

Can’t get enough of this!!
ah granby burgers I used to love them lol
Old times....all gone away.....no one wants job anymore....
I was hoping to see Granby Sausages! Bang on 2:50 😀 Great memories, thanks for posting
not to mention all the near misses - from buses turning too fast on busy corners to cyclists in and out of cars and pedestrians everywhere. Mental.
4:29 to 4:38 - that looks very much like the prototype KD built by FFG in Hamburg. Notice the smaller roof dome.
Love this. Soo funny looking back.

KC1 also happened to have a rear route number display - did CIE not see a need for such a feature on production KDs and KCs?
Super footage !
EXCELLENT STUFF Thanks!!
Give me the 16A to Santry for the Ballymun Road Please.
755 BIK my favourite bus, I know its been well recycled now, but was able to visit ardee scrapyard and claim its front reg plate.
I loved them d types

I wish I grew up in the 80s!
Why life in Ireland was tougher then although the music was great.
It was brilliant
People just leggin it between the heavy traffic, 🏃🏼♂️🏃🏼♀️Heyday material Dublin city 1985👉🏻Brilliant stuff 💯👍🏻
How did you make that out mate?
or am i goin blind? lol
It's mad the way that little cinema is still there and still open for business today...

People liked to run out and play dodge the car back then.
You couldn't do that now, you only have seconds to cross when the lights turn green
People still like running out in front of you in Dublin, only difference is these days their hoping you knock them down so they can claim!

Looks more like a 340 saloon.

At that time it had its terminus of Eden Quay. I Know that as I caught the 8 from there many times!
what bus would the 46a have been then?
KD class bombardier with a few Leyland atlanteans mixed in most likely.
20 John player blue a pint of bulmers and a ring of black granby pudding please

Fumes belching out, the dirty cars, noise. Same as ever....
