I feel like they should implement a rule that says, "After a hit/collision, if a player other than the one involved in the contact initiates a scrum/fight that stops play they will be subjected to a roughing penalty" because I'm all for protecting your teammate but do it within the game like Benn against McNabb that's get back at a guy who laid a hit on your teammate. But that Mcabbe hit was clean and the guy he hit recognized that and didn't even care he got up looking for the puck but because Zibanejad went after Mcabbe they had to stop the play and Zibanejad wouldn't even drop the gloves to finish what he started. Just an idea.
I agree, that makes sure it incentivizes hits and does not result in so many stoppages in play
Technically there is an instigator rule, it's just a matter of actually calling it...

Definitely. The weirdest part is that the hit doesn’t even look that bad. Nothing dirty about it, and didn’t even look like it should have injured him. Either way his career definitely dropped off a cliff after it

Don't get my wrong Trouba has thrown quite a few dirty hits, but that wasn't one of them. Devil's player basically skated head first while looking down, right into him. He had his elbow down and feet on the ground. It was just a hard hit.

I don’t like defending Trouba ever I think he’s a POS but that was clean. It was despicable that no one on the devils went after him though. Even if they got beat by Trouba at least stand up for your teammate.

That's probably why they let them fight - blow off some steam so that players don't escalate with dirtier headshot checks.
It definitely isn't a game for everyone.
Not only is it extremely skill based, moreso than alot of other sports... but you need to have an extreme amount of stamina and toughness to go along with it.
They usually die a bit later after retirement when the CTE, other injuries, and sometimes drug addiction catches up to them.
I remember when Tootoo played at the world juniors in halifax. He was young and put out big hits. Eventually when he went on the ice the crowd started chanting for the "Tootoo Train" and he delivered usually

Half of these hits are from within the last 3 seasons.... tkachuk on eichel, barbie on gudas, mcnabb on stars scrub #1, benn on mcnabb. Those were the last 2 seasons.

100%. If they can't deal with the hits they should have never laced the skates. It's part of the game. I understand taking up for your team, but the best revenge is to hit them right back! Not try to fight over your teammate getting caught by his OWN mistake with his head down. You know as soon as you see a nice clean hit play is immediately going to be whistled due to some BS little scrum.
Its to set the tone. Even if its clean it incentivizes other teams to not make big hits cause they’ll have ti deal with getting jumped. It would be pretty dumb to not stick up for your teammates cause if you dont then you’re saying “to all future opponents, get your biggest hit in and if its clean we’ll let you walk”

In the first clip, the announcer said "shoulder to shoulder". To me it looks like the guy took his shoulder and just drove it up the other guy's collarbone and up into his jaw.

One of the most feared guys of all time. You should have seen him playing for Canada at the world juniors. He was running guys through the boards to the point where guys were just giving him the puck after he dumped it in. They even started calling it the “tootoo flu” cuz guys were literally pretending to be sick before junior games cuz they knew he was going to run around and level people. He also scored a lot and even scored quite a bit in the nhl.

Such trash that you can start a fight after a clean hit and its automatically considered a penalty for who made the clean hit. Makes no sense.
About the only dirty hits I saw were by the two guys that suck at everything other than fighting/hitting - Rempe and Reaves. And while I think Tkachuk is a total POS rat, the one thing I saw that enforced my view of his gutless play wasn't his hits, it was him jumping guys that were already being held by either a ref or a teammate of his.

Did you know you can get a concussion from getting hit in the stomach? Did you know hockey equipment advancements only made it possible to throw hits like this without hurting yourself within the past couple decades? Did you know that smaller players used to not get ran like this by much larger players because they'd have to face the other team's enforcer at some point in time? But sure, let's leave the faster skill players completely defenseless to this stuff and get rid of fighting.. which is in all likelihood responsible for about 5% of concussions in hockey. I have no idea how someone could argue getting blindside ragdolled at 35mph is less dangerous than throwing a couple punches at another ready and willing combatant... and you wonder why players react the way they do to these big hits. Joke of a league and completely unwatchable.

the NHL needs to make SOME regulations when it comes to hits, at this point of time, I feel like the NHL has put less and less restrictions on hits, which I get but right now, I feel like its the WWE with these hits and there needs to be some penalties addressed if hits like these are getting away unnoticed
