54 and heard a little of everything, metal speaking, and without any doubt Insomnium is my favorite music of all time. I am from the USA and love Thin Lizzy, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Scorpions, Saxon, Motorhead, Amon Amarth, Omnium Gatherum, Be'lakor, Solution 45, Noumena, Swallow The Sun, Moonsorrow, Opeth, Dark Tranquility, Nile, Ghost Brigade, Meshuggah, Scar Symmetry, Kalmah and Shade Empire to name a few. However, Insomnium is my "go-to" band. I never tire of listening to their music. This song really hits home with me. Last December (2017) was a brutally cold (below 0) winter and my girlfriend had her utilities shut off. I bought a generator to keep us warm. We spent Christmas in a dark, cold house in front of a fireplace on the floor and only had microwave food to eat. She never once complained and held me close at night and I could see her breath as she would whisper "I love you" on those blistering cold nights. One night the generator ran out of fuel about 3 in the morning. I had to get up, get dressed and find a station open. The sky was crystal clear that night, the temperature was well below zero and as I was walking out the door my girlfriend said "kiss me" and I walked back and kissed her good bye, she said "hurry back, I love you" and I went to warm the car. As I sat there starring out at the cold, clear, star-filled winter sky I played the Across The Dark album. I was thinking of my beautiful girl lying on the floor in front of the fireplace inside that cold dark house as this song came on. I sat and listened to it watching the stars sparkling in that black sky and once I got back home, fueled up the generator I crawled next to my girl, all the time this song was going through my head, she backed her warm body against me and we snuggled without saying a word the rest of that night. To some people it may have been miserable. It was the best Christmas of my life and will remain in my memory the rest of my days. Cheers to Insomnium and cheers to the woman of my dreams. I love you baby.
I've been listening to Insomnium since 2009, they only had three albums at the time. It has been over a decade now, what a journey. They matured so much yet remained the same chilled metalheads from Finland.
It's amazing when you listen to the whole album which has autumn atmosphere and then at the end comes this bonus track which feels a bit like a spring. Maybe it sounds weird, but I definetly feel spring in this song.
I must agree however I was lucky enough to see Insomnium at summerbreeze this year where Mikael Stanne came out for Weather the storm. then went off to play with Dark Tranquility about an hour later, epic night.
@@ethereallith it was an exclusive on the Japan release I think. I can only imagine there is an issue with owning rights on the song. Else this song would have been at least on the re-release 😭
@mtfr both bands will play at the summerbreeze festival in the upcoming year....and that's just a few kilometers away from my hometown.... will be awesome to see those two bands together on one festival......FUCK YES :-)
Such a great song. Upset me a bit that it's not available on iTunes. It's missing from the "Across The Dark" album and from the EP "Where The Last Wave Broke" isn't on there either. Those were the only two to have this song on it.
Seems like it is impossible for Insomnium to write an ''ok'' song. Their whole discography is amazing; plus the guys are really down to earth, incredible human beings (had the chance to share a drink with Niilo and Markus V.). \m/ \m/
Its like a more brutal Dark tranquility, you're right though this song sounds hella like DT, Only the vocals would let me discern if I was hearing it for the first time.
@taproot007 "less mainstream" holy fuck - i have never heard of anybody saying that dark tranquillity has ANYTHING to do with Mainstream......really dude, mainstream is something else, DT is FAR away from anything like mainstream, even on We Are The Void. "it brings out more emotion" well that's up to you, everybody has a different opinion. i like em both really much :-)
If your new to the metal scene and enjoy this, I suggest Be'lakor, Amon Amarth, Dissection. And if you have a sense of humor a band called Austrian Death machine, all their music is based off of ARNOLD movies. I would also suggest a group called Soulmass, Dark Souls inspired metal.
