  • I came up with this so I could have Threadless forks on my Old School Mongoose frame. You can go out and do the same miss matching headset pieces , I wanted the Old School Tange/Tioga MX402-320 headset look though. Hope you enjoy !!
    You can email me for info at ; clinton.01@hotmail.com

    You need to test this on an old threaded mtb If it works itld be interested in buying a set or two. Maybe even having the cups sit on the outside of the tube instead of the inside?

    Great video, very engaging presentation; can I ask if I have this right, the frame tube diameter isn't really important as long as the top and bottom cup inserts are the right diameter? So you made cups with insert "walls" thin enough to accommodate the one inch fork? The knurled spacer (fake top nut?) was an awesome touch even if you didn't use it in the end.

      An older bmx bike from the 70s and early 80s have a wide diameter. I own a Huffy pro thunder 2 from circa 1979. removed all the threaded fork and stem components and the cups just came off easily without having to use my fingers. I had a threadless 1 1/8 cup and the stock 1in. cup. I see that the stock cup is fat on the upper part of the cup lip and the end is like slanted down 1in. to fit the stock 21.1 stem. practically the fat part like I mentioned I saw when I put the stock and the new cups next to each other. the thickness is the same but the stock is fat on the top and slanted down to 1inch. So practically these vintage mongoose, murray, huffy, and etc. between the 70s and early 80s can be converted to threadless. I ran a S&M Pitchfork threadless stem on the huffy. Hopefully this info will give you an idea when you get yourself a vintage bmx.

    Nice video, I have an Old School SE Racing PK Ripper Looptail from 1987 and have it with a fork that is not the original Landing Gear. I want to adapt a new threadless landing gear fork (because I can´t find 20" Landing gear threaded ones), so your video will help me a lot to put a landing gear on it as it should be. Then I´ll take the complete bike to the US and sell it on ebay. Thanks!

      I see by the way I got mine custom made by my friend replicate the Verde conversion cup to fit modern integrated headset so I can use 1-1/8 fork with built in race. Regardless what we use, as long is a 1-1/8 definitely the durability compared to 1 inch is far stronger and rigid.

    • @GeneralJoshua
      @GeneralJoshua 3 роки тому

      Whether it’s leisure or for money, I think the custom machining cups really work with modern fork. In terms of price is far cheaper than hunting for the old school fork and stem be it used or NOS. In terms of weight and durability, I’m very sure it’s far lighter then old ones. I think it’s good if U can mass produce. Many would love to get from U. Especially if U can make the cup that fit the modern cartridge bearing than cage bearing.

      for the most frames, the tube of the fork does not past inside the head tube. So no matter what head sets you'll use, this just do not work for the most frames.

    Not trying to be nitty just some constructive critisism and, i hope you and viewers can benefit. Feel free to research and fact check me. The easy one... those are not loose bearings those are race bearings. Chalk it up to a bit of tounge tie. Secondly u ABSOLUTLEY have to put grease on the surface of the cups and the inside of the steer tube when pressing shells. This makes them press easier (although yours went in easy) it may damage the bike in many other ways... Third although your home-made press does not go inside the bearing cup you still must remove the bearings before pressing. The pressure will deform the cup until release and may damage bearings inside. Lastly park tool sells a guide for a saw for cutting the fork or ,your local bike shop has one. Cut the fork to size and 86 most those spacers. Although this is a steel or chromo fork each of those spacers are 5mm pluss the aprox 15 mm asthetic spacer. Running 40mm or more in spacers can be dangerous. It will put excessive stress on the fork and bearings lead to deformation and possibly cracking... like puting your seatpost past the limit line. Good video i hope the project worked on thats a super clean bike dude. Hope it turns some heads and drops some panties 🤙edit: just some spell checking for easier reading.
