Skating Frankfurt | The Ultimate Layover
Вставка
- Опубліковано 30 вер 2024
- I've never been to Europe before, I had a 7 hour layover traveling through Germany last month and I had to go check out Frankfurt for a few hours, I ended up rollerblading around 30 miles just exploring.
I'll be back for real soon!
Skates: Powerslide HC Evo
Frames: Endless 90 LR
Wheels: Endless 90 mm wheels

All the love!

Germans are known to open doors quickly without looking in the side mirror... so you are an angel and lucky to be still alive lol
Hes so right ^^
lol
So are americans, he's right at home
Not just Germans, Belgians are known for it as well. Lost count how many times I’ve nearly face planted into a car door when cycling
As a German I have to say, that guy was very lucky not to run into the police.
Using Rollerblades on the street, side stripes or bike lines is forbidden and you have to pay a fee of 10 - 20 € (depending if they think that you hindered or endangered others). If not explicitly allowed otherwise you have to use the sidewalk. It's pretty counterintuitive, since you obviously were much faster than some vehicles and bikes, but according to German law rollerblades are no vehicles thus must slow down and have to adapt their speed to pedestrians.
Great video though xD
We want more Europe and other continents videos ! This was a fun little surprise.
Successfully don't get clipped by train, car, canoe....? Lol. Love you, man. Rollerblading 6 months now thanks to you. Finally wore out my first set of wheels. FR 85s.
It’s an Easter egg! Would be impressed if you find the point in the video where it’s referenced
Thank God he didn’t kick those little poles on the road😂..They are hard af..
Lovely video! If you ever visit Europe again you should definitely come to the Netherlands, we have tons of bike lanes that are actually separated from the main road.. so its much safer to skate on!
Great catch with the weird B/F letter on our street signs! It is actually an old variation of a double-s so you can write Strasse or Straße for street.
Us Germans enjoy our weird history pieces
Haha would never have guessed that. Thanks for the info
You "could" wrote "Strasse" in the past, but since about over 20 years you have to write "Straße"
As an inline skater, you're considered a pedestrian in Germany and Switzerland, so you can't go on the streets unless there are signs to do so. That's why everyone was angry XD
lol
Bike lane maybe okay but not street! Between this and waiting for him to get clocked by a door, I was so scared - way more scared than NYC 😱
@@isagrace4260 Bike lane is okay, but I was extra worried too XD Most stressful video he did!
Well the rules are insane though because you’re also expected to go in walking speeds when you’re close to people on the sidewalk, which in the city is always so it’s still better to take the streets like bikers do too. Never gotten into trouble for that either. But probably depends on the area.
@@flygone2032 Totally agree
damn, i landed in home in germany yesterday and will go to frankfurt tomorrow, wish i could have seen you skating there. Youre my favorite skating channel and inspired me to skate again and even get an insta360 to film some original content as well. Seeing you skate here so freaking mindblowing and its crazy that you managed to skate to the airport! If you ever skate in germany again, i really recommend skating alongside the frankfurt main river. Its for bikes, and pedestrians only and the concrete is super smooth, you get a nice view with bars and food along the way and even some skateparks. Have fun in europe!
that was fire! you should do more foreign country skating, that looked very fresh.
I would love to! Hopefully more coming soon
Haha you did not beat a train. That was a city tram😅 trains go much faster and you can't catch up to them. 😂
Cool video. Welcome to Europe 😅
Sometimes I like to pretend, maybe let me have this one for a few minutes haha
Thank you, I'll be back very soon!
@@thestutteringskater still respect. I dont think i beat the tram
While watching this video Death showed up next to me, dropped his scythe in shock and said something like: "He had no clue..." 😂
Still, great video and great protective angel.😊
Is that powerslide hardocore evos? Can you say something about those skates? Or maybe make a video on your chanel with full reviev?
I'm not much of a review guy, these are the HC Evo's. I like them a lot, light, comfortable after you break them in and heat moldable. Very responsive and has a progressive flex which makes flow skating on it quite fun. I'll be back on the Next's soon
@@thestutteringskater I plan on buying a Next or an HC Evo with a Trinity endless 90 -110 frame. Is the extra cost of the Evo worth it or not for your style of skating? I spent 6-7 years of my youth skating the streets of Budapest and have literal adrenalin rush flashbacks watching your beautiful flow videos. You are a real inspiration. Thank you for what you do in the superb quality you present it in!
We do have night skating too - you should give it a try ;) Check out other city’s in Germany as well.
Lmao...driving against traffic while asking why the bike lane is flipped😂
Here in Spain we can't skate on the roads bro, that sucks my brother. Yes, there are some bicycle lines, but they are not throughout the city, which interrupts the flow of skating. What they have invented are some routes to skate. They are routes for pedestrians or cyclists, but it is actually a pain not to be able to do so on the streets. There are the police bothering you if they see you on the street where the cars go. That sucks bro.
Love your content. Not to be rude, just interesting, but you don’t stutter when you skate. Only when you are not skating it seems lmao cool
I deff stutter even when I skate. This video is riddled with them but they are more silent stutters aka blocks. So it may seem that I am not stuttering and it's less apparent because there is a lot of other stuff going on.
But yes, I definitely stutter more if I'm having a conversation with someone or talking directly into a camera
Try skating in the Philippines, lmk if you can skate like that lol
That's the European history we're looking for.. 😂
Love this one! Getting lost in a German city on blades sounds so sick! Love that you didn't give up and call an Uber or something, freaking legend.
Moprhing bike lines... Welcome to Europe :D
hey, dude, come to Warsaw, the coolest night skiing is here!!! )
Would love to, someday soon
I love how you dont stutter when you skate. Thats kinda crazy
I stuttered a lot in this video actually! Just less so than if I’m trying to talk to a camera.
Ha as German i can say you was on the Good Bikelane City. 😅
its in other Towns WAY more confusing or not even Visible or Unoptimazed.
Riding a Bike in Germany depents alot on the City How good it is or a Nightmare.
Yeah, I have to come back and explore other cities in Germany. I really enjoyed this tho
OMG I wish I had known, I would have come and done all the crazies w/ you!
i sometimes take the skateboard to the airport
Now that was a crazy thrill ride! Awesome video!
Awesome skill!! 🎉 What are wheels size you use? 4x100mm?
Got answered!
Skates: Powerslide HC Evo
Frames: Endless 90 LR
Wheels: Endless 90 mm wheels
😂🎉
Nice footage, what camera are you using? I want to shoot similar style footage for hitching rides and trailrunning :)
This is the insta360 X4
its not the letter B. we call it s-z .. its written as a "ß" .. pronounced like the first "s" in the word "street"..
Ahhh I'm learning so much. Epic fail on my part
How fabulous! great to watch, like alyways...... I live in Munich, and have skated to Muinch airport a couple of times!
Ayyy Heard good things about Munich. Would love to come back soon
Great to see you skating through Germany.
Great video.
9:28 yikes this part gave me PTSD from a downhill fall I had. You handled it like it was nothing 😲🕶️
ALways take a pragmatic approach, thats what I always try to do.
@@thestutteringskater thanks Ari! Great advice
Great idea, it’s a pity I didn’t know you would be here. I work at the airport myself and I’m often on my bike, and I’ve even skated home a few times. Come to the Tuesday Night Skating in Frankfurt!
omg skating from Frankfurt to Frankfurt airport is crazy 😂
the letter that looks like a b is actually a double s Straße (Street) 3:05
Learning soo much! Thank you
As a skater from Germany, I only go skating at around 11 PM, so there are less cars on the road. Just feels saver.
have a question: How heavy are your skates, you normally skate? u know that?
"I came, I saw, I skated."
Be sure to take your skates when you're in Barcelona, I had a lot of fun exploring that city on skates.
Also, Netherlands has good bike lanes of course, but that makes skating a bit less "urban jungle"-y sometimes. Cars do NOT expect you to be in their road.
Also, the "ß" is for an "s"-like sound in German.
No way! Wish I had seen you when you were in Frankfurt! Also if you ever have a layover again and it happens to be on a Tuesday evening we have a skate event in the summer months (more like spring to autumn) where up to 1000 people skate through the city in the evening til 11pm accompanied by police. Although admittedly it would probably be a bit slow for your pace. With frequent stops to wait for everyone to catch up.
3:26 A bee attacks you :( cool 3 frames
Woah, good spot
So cool to see you skate in my city. You make it look effortless. 👌
Crazy ride…Yes you can ride… But: honestly… Dude if you always ride so ruthlessly on the streets without respecting any traffic rules you're hopefully not surprised if you get hit by car, bus some posts or whatever comes your way…
I've been rollerblading for a few years now and have a lot of experience, but I know NOTHING when it comes to skating outside. I need someone to explain to me how rubbery my wheels need to be to comfortably or somewhat comfortably skate on asphalt.
One tip when skating Germany: Cars hate you when you wear no helmet. I've been honked at so many times I lost count ;D
For some reason seeing you skate in Germany made me way more anxious than the crowded streets of NY. I know how my fellow Germans can be and I'm honestly surprised you didn't get doored, run over by a selfish driver or got yelled at by cyclists for being in their lane 🙈 not to mention being stopped by police for skating on the street 😂
Those cobblestones and bricks, they're just like a foot massage right? LOL
hi, welcome to Germany! It's a pity that I don't live in a big city, I would have liked to say hello to you... take care, the first comment is so right...
Wow that was an epic trip back to the airport on some really sketchy substrates, there's nothing sweeter than a silky glide and nothing more jarring than trying to roll on gritty grimy rocky bit. How far did you have to go? Frankfurt looks pretty cool for skaters with like only about 50 cars in the whole city. You are so hardcore Strut boyeee, hard to the core and skating on hardcore, eight wheels to the floor!
Hey! One question...
Is this still the insta360 x4? If so what resolution?
What hardness are those wheels? I have only used 85A and those soul slides look impossible. Might be the road though. My city roads are neither flat nor smooth.
Screaming "on your right" - they most likely dont hear you 😂
Maybe a whisle could be useful?
Hey Bro, I am also a stuttering skater🎉. Let me know when you come to Vienna. It's a paradise for skating
Come to the Netherlands! The bike lanes are separate a lot of the time and much better planned. Plus drivers are used to cyclists because we’re everywhere 👍🏻
I’m really excited to see where you end up! Hopefully you make some cool videos! This was awesome.
I have a question regarding taking your skates in the airplane. Does it cost you extra or is it considered hand luggage?
Welcome!
Loved the last song
I'll be back, thank you!
Frankfurt is a good choice for skating, Berlin would be much more a challenge :P
Once, if you would like to come to Budapest, I have a couch for you :D
You are crazy!! How about a slow skate on some quads?!
beautiful city and lovely skating
"I am extremely American" Bahahahahahahaha!
I mean, it is how it is haha People were so nice to me tho, it was lovely.
In germany normally when you are old enough or did a "bicycle license test" you are start to drive on the street. The license is normally just police officers looking how you drive on a small practice place. As far as i know even if you have to do it a second time, you can't really fail it. They just tell you to pay more attention.
The test is normal part of elementary school age.
And bicycle lines are often only at dangerous or more important roads otherwise you normally just drive on the street close to the sidewalk. Sometimes the lane is also on the sidewalk.
But also i never was surprised when the lane just ended, never thought about it 😅😂
(And the train was a tram.)
Hey gimme a hint if your in the area Freiburg (southwest) - since i was skating a lot in Europe this is still one of the best locations. Would be nice to skate a bit here.
fun fact: You're not allowed to use the bike lane with skates in germany 🙄 you have to use the sidewalk 😶
In Germany you're not allowed to skate on the street or bike lane.. only footwalk 😢
lol you don't need to shout on your right on your right everyone is checking their mirrors carefully here
You need some Twincam Storm bearings my friend 😉
What is your destination on this trip? Skating more in Europe?
Unfortunately this time around, no. Was traveling to be with family overseas due to a family tragedy :(
you're crazy, but in a good way. I like👍
This is like 10% how bad the roads in my area are
I was just in Germany late last year! Was amazing
What are some affordable brands to getting started?
Otherwise cool, but you should be carefull with cars stopping in front of pedestrian whiteline crossing. In most countries cars must always avoid pedestrians and if pedestrian hit a car the driver should have been able to anticipate it and it still is the car's fault.
Thus it is common for people to walk behind corner without looking if there is a car stopped in front of safety crossing.
E. same affects to you, you are considered as bicyclist in some countries and even if not, you are responsible for all the expenses, medical etc. if you hit anyone and that will be COSTLY! :)
I did a smidge of research but didn't really know what to expect or not. Coming from NY, this was really different and I was just trying to be conservative and not take chances. But I know I probably skated in a way that most folks here aren't used to and I'm not super familiar with the flow of traffic.
you did get a phone number didn't you
:)
and they said 2 years ago, rollerblading died.
Are you on Strava would be cool to see data of skates
I am, but I dont record my skates very often. Should I start?
@@thestutteringskater yes it would be neat!
850 ish euro build goes hard 😎😎
CLICKBAIT! I thought I can finally see you rolling for 7hours ASMR 😔
What's the name of the song around 4:00?
What setup are you using for your skates?
The next time u visit Frankfurt u should definitely take a part at TNS (Tuesday night skating). That’s kinda night ride through the city, but with police and ambulance escorting. They block the traffic, so u have an opportunity to skate without being hit by a car. Also time to time we ride out the city using AutoBahns. Incredible experience
No grandpa screaming and no honking? Sure you really went to germany??😂
Honestly, it could have been a dream. Who knows
Any plans to come to Amsterdam?
What is that lovely song starting at 12:31?
2:32 Watch out for the speed camera!
You are a beast at this, I love ure content
3:02 Did you read 'Sternstraße'?. The 'ß' is an 's'.
Haha I tried HARD! Thank you for that lesson. Updating my vocab now
how amazing it was wow and the 'extremely american' got me finished
Real dope views man! Actually just had a similar experience. I had a 8hr train layover in Chicago and rollerbladed the waterfront. I was trying to keep up with a big group of electric unicycles then I missed my train😅
3:00 maybe Sternstraße (neither F nor B)... it's called a "sharp s" in german.. you can often write it like "ss"
Million bucks question, it's a rollercoaster of emotions but: Did you had your skates with you on the plane or you had to check your bag with them?
Skating like this in that city, as someone who bikes in FFM for like 15 years... you are lucky to be alive.
3:40 get ready for Jet Set Radio Frankfurt Edition
Btw your cameraman did an excellent job, he should get a raise lol
11:00 I used to rollerblade down little forest streets like that in southern Germany as a kid, brings back memories. As you mentioned, most places aren't super skate/bike friendly in the city center but most forests have these super long car-free roads which are so much fun.
Frankfurt, also called "Crackfurt" is the San Francisco of Germany
What an adventure! Welcome to our side, hope you enjoyed it, come to the EU more often!
Also maybe contact Eugen Enin and let him be your guide if he agrees!
Heh, I keep editing this comment.... an important thing to know and you might have also noticed that there are all kinds of people in the EU lately, so one driver can behave quite the opposite than the other! I always stay on the safe side and never assume anything...
Bike lanes are like what your video shows even in Boston.
Not everywhere is as easy to street skate as NYC. The bike lanes elsewhere vanish into thin air regularly.
Nice you see you skating in another country. The roads there look so smooth.
Awesome video :) You where really lucky not getting clipped. It's kind of a tradition opening doors without looking here in germany.
Hello crazy skate roller, excellent video, thanks.
Please, make a video about brake faster technics.
Rollerblading in a foreign place sounds scarrrry (especially in a layover lol) but I am gaining more confidence in city skating thanks to you!
