ECONOMICS leaves connections a quandary with clear-cut 2024 Dante Stakes success

- Economics swept his rivals aside to record a brilliant victory in the Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Dante Stakes at York.
Winner of a mile maiden at Newbury last month, William Haggas’ twice-raced chestnut son of Night Of Thunder was always well placed under Tom Marquand in the extended 10-furlong feature.
Still moving with menace when asked to mount a challenge in the home straight, he was able to pull clear of the field and lengthened his stride to cross the line six lengths ahead of 7-4 favourite Ancient Wisdom.
Economics does not hold an entry for the Betfred Derby, for which the Dante is a key trial, having been taken out of the race - but will connections now have a change of heart?

He lengthened beautifully when Tom asked him to go, looked like the winner there and then. I’d leave Epsom though, a nice flat galloping track that isn’t so sharp will really see him to best effect I think. Lots of potential there going forward!
The two star performers we've seen so far in this Derby trial season are not going to Epsom for different reasons, but this is still a blow to the prestige of the race.
The Arab owner will run it in the derby
As you say prestige
To not supplement him for the derby after that would be criminal
Regardless that it didn't appear to impact the performance, have to think the blood from the nostrils is enough to keep them from coughing up the money to get him back in the Derby; wonder if they'll target the Eclipse with the stamina concerns
Irish derby bound maybe looks like a horse you could see running at the curragh
Very tender ride on Ancient Wisdom here...Adayar rapidly improved before the 2021 Derby and expecting the same from this horse
Really nice horse beautiful mover like Maureen said still a big baby. Great big stride on him. Hope hes ok and as pleased as they were they were worried.
Strides don’t win Derbys my friend.
@suemaher5282 he is such a nice imposing horse, it's a pity connections are convinced the derby will come too soon for him as he definitely has the talent for it. I'd say they will stick to their plan and go straight to the king Edward at Ascot.
Thought it was worth a bet as dixon said they were fairly bullish nice price too.
@@frankelforever14I can see their point he is such a big horse. It looked to me like he bled if he did they will look after him that would probably rule the Derby out.
@@Martin.Lewis.. Lol u r giving me lessons on horses.
What would TJ know about Flat or Jump racing? He's got as much knowledge as a scarecrow!!!
He knows that grade 1 races are run on the flat in the UK, that the Vincent O'Brien handicap hurdle isn't a handicap and that 5 year old female horses aren't called mares. He also knows that French racing is listed level in the UK, Ace Impact would surely have been lucky to win the Lingfield derby never mind the French derby or the Arc. Australian and Japanese horses are even worse, Vauban will surely win the Melbourne cup against a bunch of yaks and Equinox would have been lucky to finish ahead of Auguste Rodin in the guineas and King George. That's just some of his knowledge, there are too many examples of it to share in one post.
If he was on Mastermind against Worzel Gummidge, I would be backing Gummidge...
@@musicmike1972 😂😂😂👍
@@frankelforever14 I remember him saying that Vauban was better than Frankel. 🙄😂😂
@@Zarkava8says it all 😂😂😂
10/1 for the arc after that. 10/1 might be generous. Good un ain't he?
Congratulations Tom, good job rider and the whole team 👍👋✊🐎🐎🐎
Brilliant performance!.
Why would anyone question Mr Haggis man is a master of his craft hoping owner takes that on board
He's never won anything of note
No chance that A Wisdom would overturn that not even at 1m 4f
To win the Derby you need a good quarter. This horse has it Power behind the saddle. The horse isn't too big Varian's last year was bigger and than nearly won. They can afford. I reckon it will be supplemented
to go around epsom and its undulations one needs a well balanced horse the winner isnt york doncaster ascot are the options here
@@barrypeers8665 well balanced definitely but king of steel didn't strike me as an epsom type. He had a huge stride similar to this horse.
the horse i was going to back has pulled out arabian crown .
7/4 most firms with a run. 13/2 Betfair exchange, at that price its a chance worth taking.
the derby is 2 weeks away even last weeks trials i would not back any running within 3 weeks of the derby
Desert Crown won the Dante and went on to win the Derby in 2022🤔
Several horses have won the Dante and gone on to win the Epsom Derby, it's always been a good guide towards the Derby.
The dante is regarded as one of the best derby trials out there its produced more derby winners than any other trial race if some of them horses don't run in trial races there going to derby with out a run from 2year old to 3
@@rosskeenan9117 Thats funny since 2000 thats 24 years ago only 4 winners of the dante have gone on to win the derby .that strike rate might be acceptable to you . but not for me .
@@barrypeers8665 You could also say there've been 4 winners since 2005, that's 19 years ago. You can always play with statistics, but it's undeniable that the Dante is a strong derby trial. The prize money always guarantees a strong field and true test
For derby hidden law
It's dead
You're a right 🦃
A big powerful miler
From the emotional wreck Zarkava to the boring Frankelforever just like that.
Amazing ability to flip that quick.
BTW who on earth is TJ 😂😂😂😂

Em TJ is you, a 30 year old who lives with his two cats. How many days is it since you took your meds that you forget who you are. I could put up your tomcat videos to show everybody the truth but you would just report them again to hide the truth of who you are. As I said last week your condition isn't your fault and nothing to be embarrassed about. Did you enjoy EastEnders tonight TJ?
Em TJ you do know by reporting my replies it's just proving that I have found you out, think it's best if you share the truth about your condition with everyone, you might end up getting more of those likes that you obviously crave.

I cannot see Economics handling the switchback track at Epsom. He's a big long-striding horse who will be much better suited to a galloping track like the Curragh. I think connections will aim him at the Irish Derby.
Not optimistic for the derby prospect. His trainer proved to be overly conservative to manage horses in competing the top races.
It's honestly like watching jump racing in Scotland this York 'meeting' is.
#dreadfulquality
where is William Haggas?
In bed at this time of night
Sell him To Shadwell Please!
Economic looks like a jumper and I can´t see Epsom suiting him. The Irish Derby - or maybe the French - would be more suitable.
If the owners do overrule the trainer and supplement him for Epsom, they will pay 75k for the chance to win 850k - so they will get 9-1 about a horse that could be 2-1 on the day. tempting...
i would be very suprised if he does not run in derby...
He won't run in the Epsom Derby!
His form stands out from his first race
Zoum Zoum
Kikkuli
Balmacara
Should stay. His mother by an Arc winner.
Clearly a Derby horse. Haggas is wrong
Aye you know better than derby winner trainer
@@gerrymcguire7382 people can be wrong. Its obvious to everyone to see that he'll get the Derby trip. He has to be supplemented. Only one Derby
@@goldenboots507 true
I wish I could have a bet with you that Economics will NOT run in the Derby. He is a big, long-striding animal who will find all kinds of trouble with the undulations of Epsom and will very likely become unbalanced. If he stays the trip, then a galloping flat track like the Curragh will be more to his liking.

Not a Godolphin fan but Ancient Wisdom will beat this colt next time at 1m2f

Don’t believe the hype on this one, I think they managed to nail Ancient Wisdom and kill his stride and path. Buick would have put this one to bed in similar fashion.
Haha good one
@@lean2281 You’ll see on Saturday.
A lot of nonsense, theres only one Derby and this is the top Trials winner
Epsom is a no no for this horse.

I’d like those people to come forward with their hands held high!
Just like I said last week, COT goes off 2/1 and hoses in at Epsom!
