Really appreciate the video. Love the entomology background and the style for tying the body and veil. Would love to see part 2 with the emergent / dry pupa. Thanks.

I've tied and used this fly for 30 years. Gary and his friends made years of observation using SCUBA to observe Caddis. If you are dead serious about learning about his tying methods and the reasons for them, I strongly suggest his book "Caddis Flies" be your guide. Follow his instructions exactly and do not try to "modify" it to what you think is a beautiful fly. I guarantee you if you take shortcuts you will likely catch few fish. I was able to obtain about 5 pounds of the special trilobal Antron directly from his daughter Heather many years ago. This is the only stuff I will use. I previously used Aunt Lydia's Sparkle Yarn without good results. Many yarns are labeled Antron but they are not the same as the vintage now discontinued Dazzleaire trilobal, uniquely highly refractive Antron. Again if you cannot follow his directions you will not be happy. This bubble MUST be tied sparsely with the correct Antron and MUST be 360 degrees around the hook shank. Think about this... the fish usually looks UP at the fly and what does he see? The underside of the fly! You must show the fish the Antron fibers under this fly and the long partially exposed straight dub on the shank. Further, Gary tied these on straight TMC 100 hooks. It is important and the reason why is critical. The book and his videotapes will explain WHY! Every word he wrote in his book has been very well thought about deeply and through personal scientific investigation/observations that no one else has really done.

Good gawd, a 20 minute Magnum Opus. Flagler can tie it in 6, and make more sense!

wow 20 minutes plus for a 2 minute fly. That is to my mind tied on the wrong side of the hook. It is a jig hook that rides hook point up.
