Model contest and show on May 8 2010. This model will be donated to the Naval Museum in Pensacola, FL Summer 2010
Very nice. A lot of work. I am doing a 1/72nd Escort Carrier modeled after the ship my Father served on. CVE-1 USS Long Island. Although I am only building the back half right now, it is over 3 feet long. Building 12 Wildcats and 6 TBMs is a lot of work. Thank you for this.
I'm speechless...True American Craftsmanship alive and well. I sometimes think I'm a good modeler until I see stuff like that. Freaking well done!
That's A Labor Of Love! I Always Liked The Yorktown Class Carriers! I Think They're Sharp Looking! ⚓
seeing this ship come to life... watching it grow from a piece of paper to earning not one, or two.. but three honors... That is something to be proud of! I loved seeing this ship in Venice on may 8th 2010 to witness it's winnings of People's choice.. and 1st for scratch built. THis is a masterful art, and this ship is the crown jewel at the moment. Well done!
Man, your island rigging alone is awesome! Let alone a stunning carrier under it. Had this been the damaged Franklin, I would be speechless. I've seen 1/72 scale carriers so I'm conditioned. Nice nice craft dude.
A stunning job on this Yorktown. It's huge yet you didn't use RC. I like that. Just as a good ship model should be. Very Nicely Done. A friend of mine's father served aboard the Yorktown During WW11. My Dad was on the U.S.S. Pyro, a ammunition ship. His ship was always trailing the fleet by 15 to 20 miles. Just in case of, well, being hit. Greg ad Jeanne
Beautiful! You are one Barney Bad Ass model builder my friend. Thank you for sharing your magnificent work of art.

Wow! What incredible craftsmanship.
So very nice work and great attention to all the detail. A masterpiece...truly!
It's the best I could do for my low movie making skills.
Beautiful ship.. well deserving any awards bestowed upon it.. and more! We have an excellent scratchbuilder of ships in our club, he ranks in the top 10 in the world.. build mainly commissioned work for the Royal Navy.. but I don't think even he would tackle a ship like this.. :) :)
thank you for doing this model my father was on cv6 during ww2 radio man 3rd class when she was hit in the forward elavador that knock her out of the war near the end by a nap plane
Sometime back I got several of the 144 scale airplane models that flew on these carriers. I drilled out the propeller hubs on the lathe to 1mm and then added a 4mm pager motor to each. With a 1-1/2 volt battery they looked real nice spinning with their yellow tips. Sold em all on ebay.
Wow that a museum piece if I ever saw one, great job..
looks like a blast. i'm building the gallery 'wasp' kit, but in the mean time i'm accumulating measurements, dimensions, and photos necessary to scratchbuild a 1/144 uss indianapolis. i've done some plank on frame kits in the past, but this is my 1st scratchbuild project. btw, very impressive model
That's the best u can do???It's amazing!
A beautiful model!! Very good job!
Amazing, you have more patience than most people. one comment...rear elevator was centerlined and further aft on actual CV-6.
now that is what I call modelmaking👍
I SO want one of those for Christmas ...
thats a really nice ship. Must have taken a while!
@modelman44 Aha! That makes more sense. So it was the Revell kit of CV-6, packaged as a Battle of Midway set. Not the Revell kit of CV-41, USS Midway.
It's a magnificent model you did. And the video is great!
Thank you. A very impressive work.
Outstanding work!
WOW!!!!!! That is AMAZING!!!!!
that is some very awesome work love it
@modelman44 It was the Revell kit of Midway? Not the kit of Enterprise?
I loved this video, by the way. I particularly liked the way you did the deck planking, and I loved all those crew figures.
Master piece!!!
All 1/144 scale. Would love to build something pertaining to the British. Always in the market for commission builds.
awsome model!!!
Very entertaining, thank you.
Brilliant!
I love these models!!! How do you begin? Blueprints? Kit? Photos? I've always been fascinated by the Yorktown's Japanese counterparts, the Shokaku and Zuikaku and I would love to build a scale model of one of those.
Congrats on a marvellous piece of work Randall, inspiring! Can you tell me where you sourced your 1:144 sailors?
How do you do sir! I loved the video, and especially the model carrier!!! Very well done! I was wondering if it is a motorized or not? Also, are the planes 1/144 scale too? And, have you done any 1/144 scale light, or jeep carriers models? A very incredable job!
Also, I was wondering if you have done any British warships at the scame scale?
Take care, and I would love to see more videos of your ships!
Thank you so very much!
Francis.
Beautiful work! I'm wondering how many hours went into it?!!!!
unbielivable a true master mondeler
Yes... all of it
@modelman44 If he's at the club meeting on Monday I'll ask.. :) He does his work mainly for the British Royal Navy though, at least at the moment, and I think his main contacts lies there.. but we'll see! :)
well done sir
It looks as though you used a plastic model kit to a much smaller scale as a guide. What kit was that?
Looks just like the real Yorktown here in Charleston, SC
that is super amazing LOL!!!!!!!!
where did you get the 1/144 crew figures?, i've been trying to find a set for a fletcher...
how long did it take? oh and it only counts if it floats!!!!
They're from Prizer from Germany
I've been seeing a lot about scratch built models, but where do you get the plans to go from?
Sometimes it's reverse engineering... No plans
@@modelman44 That's great work. I would have to have plans to work from to get the correct angles and shapes.
From what I've seen on aircraft there's some great detail to be done by hand. Thanks
Small peaces do you make yourself?????
