- I love travelling, exploring and learning about the world. This is why I collect travel books, including Lonely Planets. Over the years, I have amassed what I think is a pretty extensive collection.

It's pleasure to see you here with the same hobby as me. I am from South Korea and started collecting Lonely Planet recently. You can create a travel atmosphere and there are many books that are good to own. 🙂

Yes you do!!! We have about 3 and then a ton of individual city guide books. That’s pretty impressive! Oh wow, your alphabetising fills my OCD heart with joy!! Yes Wales is there, we’ve now subbed!!!! 😄 I’d be proud of that collection too. Great work 🍻
I love it! It is a great hobby and every time I go into a UK charity shop I feel like a little kid on a treasure hunt. Yep they are all alphabetical - the Wales one may be bottom of the shelf but one of my absolute favourites! Thanks for your support :)

Nice collection mate, I used to have quite a few of these but they've been lost in house moves and donating to charity shops (you might have one of my old ones there 😆). Nowadays I rely on wikitravel and other sites but I do sometimes miss having a physical book to thumb through 👍

Not sure I can beat you but maybe challenge a bit. I have bought LPs for my travels the last 20 years and I have 212 country-, city- and regional guides (the regular ones). I have a few pocket guides, phrasebooks and others but I never really collected those - just the regular ones.

Hi there! Thank you for taking the time to comment! Yes, it is a big collection, but as I bought all the books second hand I saved a lot of money. Even though I have the book, I actually haven't been to Vietnam yet - I visited Thailand, Cambodia and Laos on a Southeast Asia trip in 2011 but didn't make it to Vietnam at the time. So I will definitely go there at some point and explore some of the beautiful cities and towns. Any recommendations of places to visit?

My earliest ones are from the early 80’s. Have you read Tony & Maureen’s story of how it all began ?

@@willieexplore BTW, I guess that your Cambodia book is an illegal copy, look at the colour, measurements and publication date. I also have these illegal ones for Cambodia and Laos.

Dude you've got a collection that might be worth something to the collectors some day.
I've heard that LP has become rubbish recently.
For instance in the new edition of Sicily they only mention 3 restaurants in Catania
whereas in previous editions they would mention pure hidden gems like the kind of restaurants run by the grandma. Apparently it's turned into instagram format.
Is there a decent alternative to LP? I've heard of Rough guide. And also Fodor's.
Any recommendation?
I really love my collection! It has grown a little bit since I made this video too. As for alternatives, I really couldn't tell. It depends on what you are interested in. To be honest, you can probably find better and more up-to-date information online than in many books.
