- Kona Bicycles did something awesome, really really awesome, giving 500 bikes to kids through the Utah NICA legue teams to then provide them to riders on their teams. Check out the article on Kona's website:

With the recent news about Kona Bicycles, I am greatfull for the support they have given to our league and hope things work out well for them and all their employees in this time of transition and that we can continue to see a bright future for them. I prepared this video before the recent news and was sad to see the news this morning.
Hello, what happened to kona? are they going out of business?
They relocated their hq to Utah.
@@jdhd2837😮Kent Outdoors announced yesterday that they are selling off Kona. Rumours from staff that it could be end of the road.
@@MiguelGonzalez-kt5mg they shut down. Their booth at Sea Otter before the event even started, and according to an article on BRAIN, the current parent company is selling off the brand
@@jdhd2837 There was news yesterday that the ownership group for Kona is looking to sell off the brand. They went so far as to shut down their booth at Sea Otter before the expo even started. You can find the articles I read on BRAIN (Bicycle Retail and Industry News) website.
You're a good man. This channel deserves a million subs.
You are kind thanks.
Rob, you continue to do AMAZING things for youth in the community! And especially for NICA. I had no idea when you gifted Carson his phenomenal Santa Cruz, what the ripple effect would be. He now uses his bike mechanic skills to help neighborhood kids whenever he can & will continue to do so. PLEASE keep doing what you're doing!!
Thank you and thank you for sharing. I’m happy to see the how Carson is doing.
I'm having a really hard time right now and to see this video and how nice and genuine you are to help others really makes me cry.
Sending good vibes to you. Thank you for sharing.
This is so nice, bikes are one of the best mediums to empower people.
Awesome kona is lending out some loaner bikes to the league. I'm sure there will be some racers out there that will appreciate it. It's amazing what riding does to someone's mind and body. Hopefully your son can continue to use riding/racing to help him through his journey. Good luck in the new season coming up.
This is the kind of content YT should be pushing to the top of the algorithm. Thanks for sharing your son's story with us. (Hope you had permission.) I can relate to MTB as a refuge. I have had 2 heart attacks in the past 2 years and have not been able to ride as I wish I could again. This is my year. Working out and getting myself back. Thanks for the inspiration! Keep the content coming.
Thank you my friend. may God bless you.
I have four Konas. It's always hard to decide which one to ride. Love them all.
I have no one 😢
Dido 😁🙌
Thank you for speaking so openly. You've inspired me to build up some older unloved bikes and pass them on. Keep up your good work 😊
Deep respect to you for the time you offer to give kids a start in mountainbiking. For Kona I'm sad about the news. They were part of the mtb history, their 26" were legend and still are. But they are no longer a company owned by somoeone like Joe Murray. Today there is only a CFO but not someone lovin' mtb.
I do miss the Kona innovation and beauty of the old days.
My 2023 cinder cone is due for delivery. I’ve gone X-Large and can’t wait. I love the brand and if it dies then I’ll be very happy I got one before it sailed off into the sun set for good.
Kona is back.
Kona makes great bikes. I have a '23 Mahuna XL and it's awesome.
I grew up next to Bath Cycle & Ski in Maine and they always carried Kona bikes. Been a fan of Kona since way back in the day. Another great video! Awesome to see the frequent uploads now that you've got a break from your job. 👍🏻
Thanks my friend.
Awesome video and even better to see what Kona has done, in light of all the uncertainty. My teens got into mtb on solid Kona bikes for weekend adventures - still going strong
Agreed. Thank for the support
I've bought and built used bikes for relatives that I felt showed interest in cycling but didn't have the money to buy a good bike that was safe to ride on trails. I gave my son and his wife bikes hoping that they would stay healthy and use them. It felt good to help others. Cycling is important to me because it saved me during a time of my life when I was experiencing depression and brought me back to good health. It's a shame the sport is so expensive but it is a life changer for sure. Sad to hear the news about KONA too.
Thank you for sharing my friend.
Awesome video, I have a Kona Lava Dome that I love, hopefully the company can continue to make awesome bikes and do good in the community.
Thanks and agreed.
I live in Bellingham, WA, the original home of KONA Bikes. They have had a lot of layoffs in the last year and now the company is up for sale as of last Friday. They were at the 2024 Sea Otter Bike event, but left before that event began. I think this great brand and heritage, that we in the PNW enjoyed, is finished. If they continue as a brand they probably end up like Mongoose, GT, and Schwinn, too bad.
KEEP IT REAL KONA ,,,,LEGENDs
Wonderful Video🙌🏻
Thanks
That's very cool and Aw for that Bike company willing to help out like that for the kids.
Absolutely great channel and video. You are one of the few people who inspired me to start my own channel. Keep up the great work you do 😊
If you had said, “Now that the build is complete, this Kona is ready for a new owna.” Comedy gold
Lol 😂🙌
I'm happy every time you upload a new video. Ingo sends greetings from Germany.🚴🚴♂🚴♀👍
Thank you my friend.
sad to see the trouble Kona are in atm, the owning company seems to have given up on the brand, would be sad to see another brand go like nukeproof etc, btw great video, your passion is evident.
Agreed. Sad.
Que gran gesto, el tuyo y el de Kona 👍
Great vid as always. NICA sounds pretty great. I wish we had something similar in my part of Canada. Sad news about Kona.
I just read on BRAIN that Kona abandoned their booth at Sea Otter before the event even started, and the brand is looking for new owners. HOpefully whoever takes over will continue with this type of advovacy, expecially for youth sports.
Agreed
Lieber Rob.
Thank you for the kind words. It is appreciated.
Sorry for writing in german. I understand english but writing is … difficult
A bike shop where I live that closed in 2020 sold
K🍁na's. He even had a Kona Honzo Ti🤘🤘
From India ❤👍
Awesome stuff 👏 👏
this kona was one of the options when i bought my bike and i ended up with vitus Nucleus
It’s well priced for the spec.
Fantástico, saludos
Thanks
Good advertisement for Kent Outdoors, now that Kona is up for sale. 😳
Possibly my friend
It’s a beautiful thing
🙌
It sucks they left Sea Otter classic before the Expo even started
wished it came with boost thru axles
It's no 1999 Fire Mountain but it will have to do😊
Ahhhhhhhhhhh me le pegaste a la bicicleta con la llave de los pedales, te vi, te escuche D:
I was just thinking about if you were still helping out wirh the MTB league.
Also interesting that the bike is QR and not thru axle.
It would be even better with through axles.
@3:14 OUCH!
Such sad news about Kona, they were the best looking bikes in the 90's and set the benchmark for future bikes in my eyes, always low slung and racey looking, BIGGG suspension with the Stab and Stinky. Keep up the great vids my dude.
Agreed. I hope they can work something out.
The original owners are back at Kona. They're not going anywhere.
Kent selling Kona off as of yesterday - Kona staff reckon it could be end of the road😕
I sure hope not.
@@oldshovel From what I can now gather online, it doesn't look good. Pinkbike had a news item that said Kent are look to sell the Kona IP only, so they are intent on closing shop & laying off most staff with only a few getting work at other Kent brands. That - if true - doesn't sound like they are selling Kona as a going concern. Same happened with Chain Reaction online cycling store & owner of Vitus bikes and Nukeproof, the IP was sold but all staff fired. This would be a terrible end to the Kona story with the name ending up rehashed on some supermarket bargain basement bikes.
@@BillyBob-ri9pm Yeah, but update: Kona's original owners bought the company back from Kent Outdoors, and they are revamping and getting back to their roots. They also rehired all the staff that Kent Outdoors released.
Do you have insight to the changes at Kona since they are local to you?
I don’t
I am happy for your school and for those less fortunate with money to afford sports.
That said I sometimes absolutly do not understand the bike industry - I mean why do thsi old type QR skewer, when simple thru axle would give way better benefit of better stability, and yeah i get the cos of procuction thing, but it cannot be so super huge difference - I would guess its 10 USD production difference includingthe axle itself...
Same with BB, if they would switch production for only Hollowtech it would reduce the prices aswell.
also Take shimano: they basiclt combined 3 lowest tiers sets and made 1 new one - CIES which was like 7 years overdue.
I hope you understand what im trying to say
I agree but I know I don’t know everything that goes into their frame building decisions.
@@oldshovel yes, im aware, im simply trying to point out places where they can improve - and some of them will tied directly to savings.
Sadly, Kona just pulled out of Sea Otter. There is something not very good going on with them.
I heard. Weird and sad.
That is old news. Kent Outdoors sold Kona back to the original owners, so Kona is back in good hands now.
Kona исправила проблемы с рулевым стаканом? Если да, то я куплю.
I’m not sure.
@@oldshovel In general, I like Kona, but their problems with the separation (rupture) of the steering cup is a big problem. This is either a massive defect that they do not want to eliminate, or the quality of the materials has dropped. Or maybe all of them together.
Kona Bikes - bankrupt
I hope it can continue.
False. Kona is back.
To be honest, I love Kona since I was a kid and today it got me very upset. I mean, a brand with that heritage, which changed mountain biking forever....and they are messing with it like it was some crappy walmart brand. We buy it, wreck it and sell it, blah blah blah.. We need the suited guys out and restart the brand with someone with true heart,. grrrr.
I would love to play the ending of this video at a Kent office. That would be nice.
I wish I could offer a good solution because I agree in the late 80’s and through the 90’s they shaped a lot of what we see now.
