My thoughts using the only prototype of the Rep-Pepin adjustable dumbbells. Many are claiming these are going to be the best in the category and most likely the best bang for your buck in this category.

Set of 125 lb dumbbell press with no warm ups is impressive!
Probably had an adrenaline rush knowing it was being filmed.
Awesome video!! These are a must own imo
Honestly, these immediately came on my radar when I first saw them. Glad to see your review to help me make the purchasing decision easier.
You will love these I have the original pepin fast series they were even more pricy but I used them for over a year now and still love them
No problem, thanks for watching.
Awesome to hear that.
Good work, Mike! What an opportunity to get your hands on this prototype. This one looks like it will become top notch in the adjustable dumbbell game. 💯
I ordered on the first day and have an August 20 ship date. The 5 pounds to 125 pounds will be add-on weights that are included. It will work like Pepin’s 1.25 and 2.5 lb add-on weights.
As soon as I found out about Rep-Pepin's I ordered the 85s with a Sept ship date. I can always add up if I choose to do so.
Hope the quality will be as advertised and promised?
Great review. Both Rep DBs looks great. I need to try at their store in PA.
If I was close, that would definitely be what I'd do.
@@hybridresistance The company you mentioned in another video (Arm Assassin) has some cool products. I do grip work, but I wasn't aware of them.
Great review. I kinda regret selling my big powerblocks since I still have my powerblock cable machine.
I don't think I ever saw that machine. I saw Ironmaster's at the home gym con.
@@hybridresistance I will send a photo to you, it’s an old machine. Also did you see this wide body bench that has leverage attachments?
Question. You resistance band workout pdf of your website does it have visuals/pictures. Thanks
Yes, it does. There's also a video that more or less explains it here ua-cam.com/video/6keFKQCh0iM/v-deo.html
Hi, Mike-I’ve been watching for some time, and you helped me decide to buy a Chuck Norris Total Gym Fit Anniversary edition last year. I also have Ironmaster dumbbells I have used. I love the Ironmaster. They just take a little time to adjust.
Unrelated question: is it biomechanically not advisable to do shoulder shrugs on the total gym? I was doing them at the highest incline plus extra weight on the bar/weight accessory by having my head near the floor and feet at the ceiling end. Should I just use the Ironmaster for shrugs instead?
I'm not Mike but personally I would not do shrugs upside down, especially HEAVY due to the possibility of too much head and neck strain and with too much force and gravity rushing blood to your head, there's a mild chance you could black out for a few seconds which could lead to letting go of the handles and sliding back down and causing a head injury.
If you feel safe and have done it already and don't feel any head strain or blood rushing to your head, then go for it but keep your time upside down at a minimum when doing the exercise (low reps not high).
The upside down exercises for Total gym are great as for things at low to moderate weights for most, but personally I feel way too much blood rush to my head and my eyes get temporarily blood shot if I try to do things heavier than the highest setting of my Total Gym when my head is aimed towards the bottom of the slide board. I've nearly blacked out once, but that was adding resistance plus the highest setting.
But thats just my opinion. Be careful and do things at your own risk.
Dumbell shrugs standing or sitting should be more than sufficient for most, especially since the Total Gym can't really effectively go over 150lbs without a lot if added resistance (bands, weights, etc). Where your Ironmasters can (if you have sufficient weight).
Ok. Thanks. I haven’t felt blood rush to my head when doing those, but I’m wondering about possible shoulder injury, especially at the AC joint. I had a little trouble at my left AC when I was doing those upside shoulder shrugs a fee months ago. I’m just wondering if biomechanically it’s not good form, and standing shrugs with Ironmaster would be better, placing more work on the upper back instead of possibly shoulders.
Thanks for the comment my friend. Definitely the Ironmasters would be less cumbersome and a better way to hit the traps than the TG.
Thanks, Mike. Okay. I’ll stick with the dumbells for shrugs :).
Wonder what you guys would recommend with these. Currently my bench dumbbell work out max is 55lb. Been training 2 years. Slowly progressing. Im 42, looking to keep weight lifting as a life goal towards health and function. Should I go for the 80's or pull the trigger on the 105's. 120's might be overkill for me looking to avoid injury. Thanks Guys!!
You for sure will continue with your strength, but many as they start to get up there in age (I'm right there with you) might not see the return on investment on "clanging and banging" the heavy weights. Aside from pressing and pulling, there's also some versatile leg stuff you can pull off with heavier weights. All that said, I think if you went 80s or 105s that would probably suffice. What's great about these is that you can always upgrade if need be.
Yeah I tried them there too. I have own Powerblocks, Boflex, the OG Peppins and Nuebells I wound definitely prefer these at the new Rep Pricing
Aside from function/build, any one of those do you have a preference for how it overall feels?
@@hybridresistance the OG Pepin ones felt the best but they are like those tight pro style ones you mentioned. They’re adjustable, but the problem is it takes so much longer to change the weights similar to iron grips
I sold my ironmaster for these ...hope I like them. Such a crazy long wait especially for having to pay entire price as pre order basically it's a Kickstarter so that rpe can buy the machines and tooling likely not profitable a company to do these the normal. Can't imagine rogue requiring full payment on a small ticket item and waiting half a year. A bit lame
If you only needed to go to 80lb, would you choose the Snode or RepPep ? Thanks!
It’s hard to fully say that only using the prototype for a brief period of time. I’ll just say it will be hard to not use my snodes for how good they feel. I will likely be having another db review coming soon that a further provide a comparison to my snodes if you stay tuned. Hopefully in about a weeks time.
Quick question, did you notice any noise or rattling while you were using them?
I think slightly as I had this woman shake it and could hear it a little, but it sounded natural with the mechanism.
@@hybridresistance thank you! I have a set of commercial powerblock urethane 125’s and one of my favorite parts about them is how quiet they are and no rattling.
$1299 price tag is pretty high, but the lifetime warranty makes it a better value.
I wonder what the exclusions of the warranty will look like.
compare the cost to 5-120lb fixed dumbells
Good point on that warranty. I'm OCD on usually the minor things. Of all the parts, I was wondering how that push pin would last overtime.
The price is honestly really good, even better than most the competitors and has a proven design that’s durable. Don’t get me started on the cost of fixed dumbbells
Home gym people are the cheapest ppl ...in any hobby I've been involved in...
@@turbochampx exactly they are have the price of the competition and they said that they will honor all warranties as long as you dont throw them off a building lol guys exact words!
Biggest question I have is how difficult straps are to wrap around these due to the cage
That's my biggest concern too. TheJungleGym did a review on the pépin fast dumbbells and i asked him if it's possible to use straps with them. He replied he uses straps with them for rows and RDL's
Good question on that.
By the way your physic is great
Thanks brother.
Looks like the best one on the market - fast 10 pounds changes, ok speed for 5 pound increments, compact, durable, well balanced, high weight limit, angled so they don't roll away, and now a reasonable price - this is the new standard in adjustable dumbbells!
Let's hope so. Thanks Steve.
need a video to compare the original vs the china made version in terms of durability and materials.
This is true. I'm sure when they come out that will be covered closely
You can kinda see it bending when it's fully loaded.
If you mean the flex of the weight think you're going to see that on a lot of the quick change DBs even the lighter ones. But I got to go back and watch it if you're talking the rail extenders.
Hope Snode finds a way to make their adjustable dumbbells up to 125lbs
That would be awesome.
If these were available now, id pick them up no hesitation. But 5 month lead time.. 😢
Yeah it's ridiculous. Paid upfront the entire price and still got to wait half a year ...kickstarter basically for rep. I wish a company like rogue had done this...
That's a good point.
There's definitely some FOMO involved with my purchase for sure.
@Pler1978 I'd easily put $200-$300 down. But the full price? I'll wait, or get some powerblocks. Or, something better might pop up.
@hybridresistance do you have any adjustable Dumbbells now?
Pretty cool I guess, but since I switched to resistance bands (serious steel fitness), I don't think I'll ever go back to dumbbells/barbells :)
haha, I knew get I'd one of you guys to comment on that. I hear you though. Don't know if you caught it, but I made video related to that about bands vs dbs. I love bands for some things and DBs for others.
Definitely the best quick adjustables on the market but the price is still just way too high. Imo
For a 120lb set of dumbbells? Based on the market the price is amazing
trying to sell my nuobells so I can pick these up
I hear you on that. I don't know what I'm going to do with my Snodes because I legit do love the way they feel so much.
moving some hevy azz weight!!!!
Thanks brother. Had to risk it for that b-roll!
13 hundie in this economy!!! Ouch.....
Yea, I wouldn't say it feels good, but I know they will get use and be able to pass on to my kids. Although I'm sure at that point they'll be some sort of crazy tech DBs in the future
