  • Join me and the members of the Tri-State Grotto as we explore the legend of the cave system that runs under the streets of Martinsburg West Virginia. We continue the dig under the historic General Adam Stephen house. He built the house in 1789 and designed it to withstand prolonged siege from the local warring native American Indian tribes.

that's really cool. man just think of what you could do with a house that has a cave in the basement. you could have computers, and cars, and labs, and costume suits, and bats in there.

I am sure you can contact someone from WVU to use a ground penetrating radar system to try to analyze what is in the ground, such as a rock path filled with dirt. It took no convincing whatsoever to get some geologists from there, help in gpr of the bog in Canaan Valley. Just in case those people are real serious about figuring out the truth about that tunnel.

Wow, what a fun video!! This is the kind of stuff I love, rural archaeology. The mind just races as to what those cave/rooms were used for. Slave quarters? Part of the underground railway? Places to hide Revolutionary or Civil War soldiers? Pirate booty? It could be almost anything! I'm looking forward to you returning with all your equipment.

This weekend I spent time in Carlsbad caverns in New Mexico, I actually got inspired to go "explore" from seeing your caving videos. Even though those caverns are plenty explored. But I actually ran into some volunteer cavers who were actually cleaning the cave of red dirt from the 20s when you could walk wherever in the caverns, and all I could think was I hope I see aquachigger!

Underground passages are great! I used to have one at my highschool; it went sixty-ish meters across the road to the city hall. It was a lot newer, though, built around 1939. Filled in for security. It's a shame, but at least the bunker under the school was kept!

Hey there Mr.Chigg, would you ever consider putting out a question as to where all your fans live? Just to show you and everyone else where we all are from. I think it would be pretty cool. I enjoy watching your videos. My two year old son runs down the hall when he hears you on the television. It's simply fascinating what different relics/ treasures we find in our own areas. My town was established by the Acadians in the 1600's. I find mostly flat buttons, tons of musket balls, and very old coins. Thanks again.

That hole in the bricks looked like a clean out for the fire place, I lived in a 1875 house and that was in our basement, we opened a place in the bottom of the fireplace and rake the coals into it and then when they cooled we took them outside. That room in the basement was a dirt floor.

idk if anyone else did, but I paused it to read the plaque. Thank you for the literature ;D
So, out of curiosity... are you part of a historical society then? It seems pretty cool to be able to go do that type of thing. Restorations and just knowing your history like you do.
I wish my Grandmothrrs home were still in the family. Its a home that use to be an old school house. Built in 1842 in Chester Springs, Pennsylvania. The new owner left the stonework as it was, but he tore the guts out and remodeled the inside.
I know YOU personally would have loved it... when my mom was a little girl she said she found indian heads nickels all over their land, and that she buried jars FULL of coins. That land hasn't been "worked over" by metal detecors that I know of, but IDK what the new owner has done.
My Grandparents use to do handmade gems, and would have geodes orbs. And he would OFTEN chuck the ones he thought "weren't hollow" into the back field.
Seriously... you would have a field day in Chester Springs.
That is actually a block away from an old indian burial ground as well. Mom brought me to it when I was about 4 years old. It was pretty, but I only remember it being behind the old library there...
And yes.... Grandmoms home IS haunted.
12:44 " I FOUND IT!" OMG!!! Someone else who says that!!! I say that alllllll the time when I'm at work. I run into a door frame, steel shelf, cardboard box... you know. Not paying attention to my surroundings... And when I do, whether anyone else is there or not, I shout "FOUND IT!!!"
    That was so cool!
Idk... maybe I'm weird. But, hey. I'm not the only one now! ^_^

Aqua, in the olden days wood could be preserved by burning it . It makes it resistant to rot and insects. It could by why that beam was burnt rather than from a fire.

Take a left on the tracks and you will see where the "Colonnade" R.R. bridge was at. It was destroyed during the CW and rebuilt with stone and dirt fill. The old bridge was a great design. A shame to be lost. Now for the creek, From "There" to the sewage plant may be an excellent project.
