    Great video! Where in nc are you? I’m in Winston-Salem, I work for Natures Select premium turf services “going on 5 years now” which has an organic program that does excellent but been dealing with “heat stress” really bad right now even with irrigated lawns! I don’t know what to tell these customers other than wait till it cools down!

      The SIME heads are awesome! Surprised he didn' leave the K1 SIME head on with a 12 or 14mm noozle. I run the high pressure NorthStar pump, 2" line and the K1 with 12mm and cover 180ft diameter with ease. I giggle every time she is running full tilt and dumping water on the pastures.

      HD MOVIE SOURCE I would question the validity of his claim as he is not an independent source.
      Not saying which one is better. Fact is there is a national shortage of Milorganite right now because it works so well, they can’t keep up production fast enough to keep up with demand.

      This whole Malorganite thing. I never heard of the stuff until this year and suddenly demand is off the charts. Have you all known of Milo or did you learn of it just this year? I think the brand went on a massive ad campaign and now we all just talk Milo. The thing is it's just a biosolid. It's human waste, "sludge". Sure, it's controlled and formulated to provide everything listed on the bag. My question is though is it really so damn good it's that much better than all the biosolids you can pay for, cheaply around town. Here in SLC you can get biosolids cheap. It's used in agriculture and you know it's human poop. It's not peat moss, it's renewable fertilizer from your bum. Anyway, I'm really just curious if Milo is new to ya'll as it is to me.

    Not trying to hijack this video, but I am wondering what do you all think of Ringer fertilizer? I use it with very good results. It doesn't have iron like milo, so it doesn't get your lawn blue-green. It works in 4 days, does not burn your lawn or stain your concrete. It also smells good, and not like poop. You can't over apply it.

    Pete, can you do a detailed breakdown video of your truck layout in this video. Dual tank set up from what I can see, but curious to know more about how to set one up and how you use it. Can you run glyphosate in one tank for concrete and gravel weeds and run turf products in the other for spaying grass areas? My concern would be cross contamination and not getting the hose assembly clean enough to do that. Just curious how I can do it. Im guessing two completely different tanks and hoses would be in order to do that.

    • @GCITurf
      @GCITurf  6 років тому

    Hey Pete, I need one of those sprinkler setups buddy, that set up would be perfect for what I’m trying to do. I’ve got almost 10 acres of produce planted in 3 separate fields and I’ve gotta get water on them somehow but I can not use the well for the entire plot.
    Can you give me any specific info on where and what to get? I also need to pick your brain on other things that I think you could be of great help with and I know your a busy man but wonder if you could make a service call to the farm and look at the deficiencies I’m having and come up with a plan to correct. I’m just south of Burlington so I’m not real far from ya.
    Take care Pete, your a good man and I appreciate everything you do for us buddy!

    1 gal = 231 cubic inches. 1 sq ft = 144 sq inches. 1,000 gallons = 231,000 cubic inches. To provide 1" of water to the soil, 1,000 gallons of water is enough to irrigate 1" deep on 1,600 sq ft. Sorry, I deleted my first comment and had to recalculate.

    Still waiting for someone to make a 10-10-10 "balanced" fertilizer with all the macro's and micro's in it. Tired of all these so called fertilizers that only have say two ingredients. Your lawn is missing out on a lot of other nutrients.

  • @luckyb3859

    The water alone without any fertilizer would correct much of the stress.
    I'm in USDA zone 6a and the tall fescue is the last cool season turf to go heat stress dormant in hot dry weather.
    2 inches of rain will fix the problem.
    I hate tall fescue up here, but in the transition zone it would be fine.

    I live in Colorado. EVERY season is rough for lawns! We just went through almost a month of days in the lower 90's with humidity levels in the single digits all day. The lowest reading my weather station picked up was 1% one morning! Couple that with the wind and things dry out very fast. My water bill for this last month was $140, and I only have a total of 1,000 SF of grass!

  • @stevewilley1614
    @stevewilley1614 6 років тому

    Pete...I believe I have left you quite a few compliments. When one has to truck in water to keep their turf from burning up a problem might exist. Thick turf at 4.5 inches is ridiculous. Then pushing it down for the striping effect is like putting an army blanket over the roots. You'll never listen to anyone which is ok so I will quit putting my 2 cents in ...

    Pete, need some help. Customer is taking vacation for over a week here in west texas with temps in the 100-107 temp range. Has a Bermuda and St Aug yard. Asked us to water while she is gone because she has no irrigation. She is on a well, but I don't have a High Pressure gas pump, or a large storage tank. How can I most effectively water her yard for a week under normal pressure and what sprinkler would you recommend. One half of her yard is a spare lot with only a few small trees and no fences, etc. Total sq footage of that area is 12k feet. Im thinking the 1000f might be a good option because of the interchangeable nozzles. I don't know the pressure or GPM of her water. What are your thoughts on this. I called and left a message with the customer service reps at that web site. Thanks for the info.....timing was perfect.

    • @GCITurf
      @GCITurf  6 років тому +1

      rbljackson that 1000f should work fine. She would have to have terrible water pressure for it not to work. I’m pretty sure the lowest nozzle is like 1.5GPM. Surely she gets at least that from her well???

    Always good info. My issue with milorganite is the bags size is not good for large yards. My back yard is about 17000sq ft and my front yard is about 30000sq ft, I can get about 3-4 bags of Scott's 15000sq ft and cover my whole yard. I would need about 8 bags of milorganite for my back yard and 12 for the front. I did it once and as much as milorganite is praised the potency per bag of fertilizer doesn't work for me compared to synthetic fertilizers like Scott's or Lesco.

    Good gawd! It's like you called the fire brigade out to spray your yard and they broke out the heavy artillery. Do you think the humic acid plays a large role in the soil's ability to hold water and reduce heat stress? Pete, it's a good thing that you don't have to pay your water bill for the well water that you use on your lawn. That could become quite expensive in the harsh summer heat and little or no rain.
    Question - By putting sooo much water on your test plot to try to revive it and letting your sprinklers even run overnight, aren't you doing some damage to the test plot and possibly creating a fungus-friendly area with so much moisture plus the heat and humidity?
    By the way, I agree with other comments here that that was one helluva big boy sprinkler you were using there! :-)

    Pete, I got started late this year in the academy but hey, all the crab grass, clover, and every other broadleaf weeds known to hickory NC are dead already and my fescue is looking great. Can’t wait for aeration and seeding time to fill in the dead spots from the week kill. Getting my dirt right and I’ll be ready this fall brother. Thank for sharing the knowledge. God bless.

    Pete...i have put down fungicide about 30 days ago. I still have brown spots and you can tell its fungus related even moves around. it seems to like the young new grass better (fescue grass). how often should i put down the fungicide? (scotts brand) thanks man! was just wondering. also this video did remind me of the days of tobacco!!!! i live right in the middle of Tennessee, so back in the day i sure worked in fields of tobacco! and yes we did use water heads a lot like that. but putting it in the barn was the adventure! LOL

    Great update Pete. Hearing the tap tap tap of that big gun brought back some good memories of carrying 4" aluminum pipe all over the sandy tobacco fields of Sampson county as a kid. We had to drag 4 wet sacks of dirt to each position to keep the pressure from knocking it over.

    Pete, are you still going to do the N-ext Air8 (or was it Dethach) test?

    • @GCITurf
      @GCITurf  6 років тому +1

      yes

    • @Methodical2
      @Methodical2 6 років тому

      Cool. I am holding off on those products because I am just not convinced, without seeing test results, that they work. Now, if they do work and can replace actual dethatching or aerating, then that will be a game changer.
