Cool soundig and very quick accelerating! Dude I love this video awesome job I've been meaning to do video's on my builds 👊 what I really thought was key was when you said it's how you start building race cars. I love square body's but I'm a gbody guy and I've had some bad ass 305's in my 88 monte LS 89 Chevy G10 short van and 87 regal and I still have a stock 305 in my 90 beauville van and running strong 💪 excellent 👌 video brother 👊
My dad has a board 30 305 and One of the head cracked due to no antifreeze due to col weather is it better to get both heads replaced or just the one that's cracked
Hey I wondering if you have ever put a set of 305 heads on a 307 small block. And if that 1107 cam would work in it. Is there anyway to contact you to get some advice?
I've never done that, but it would work. The problem with using 305 heads is unless you have the machined for bigger valves, and some substantial port work, they ain't worth the extra compression. They don't flow well. Best way to contact me is facebook messenger, or Instagram. @squarebodystuff You can also email me @squarebodystuff79@gmail.com
Got my 350 square body a just got me a 305 Chevy square body also just haveing trouble with wires to start but ima get 1goose hot box to start her any 1 got any suggestions if any thank u
Just found you today. My dad just gave me his 1986 square body. Wanting yo gos it up. First question is dash pad. All I can find is the plastic cover. Is that all that’s out there.
Make sure you have the engine at top dead center on the compression stroke when you stab it. Verify the firing order is correct. If it's TBI, Unplug the timing reset wire and set the timing to zero. Plug the wire back in and you should be good.
Love it. You're going to make me want to build a 305 more soon than that 413 👍🚒👍🍿 Love the engine stand. Do you have a video on it I'm thinking about building one myself.
If you are gonna completely rebuild one I would suggest stepping up to at least a 350. But if your 305 is in decent shape, add a cam, intake, headers and some decent exhaust and enjoy it.
@@SquarebodyStuff thats the same position im in. got a '94 shortbed single cab with a 305tbi that runs way too good to pull out! time to fire up the mastercard :-)
Just a cheap set of "z/28" valve springs and lapped the valves. I have a few videos showing what I did to the motor. It was just a low budget deal to show that 305s can be fun if it's all you got.
It was the biggest cheap cam that would take advantage of the flow of the crappy stock heads. I was hoping to have enough vacuum for brakes. So far I have no issues with vacuum.
Thanks, since this video, I've turned this 305 into a 339. This link is to the first dyno session with it. ua-cam.com/video/3TW-43a_FdM/v-deo.html I have some current videos of it at the dragstrip also.
Where you able to use stock push rod length? And would new stock valve spring be ok or would upgrading them be better? And lastly was this stock rocker ratio? Lol sorry for all the questions I really like how this sounds and wanna do it to my 305
Just stock length pushrods. I would upgrade the springs, the "Z/28" springs I used are basically a heavier stock replacement. No machine work required to use them and will handle up to around .550 lift. I also used stock rockers. Pure budget build. Here's the playlist that shows the progression of the build ua-cam.com/play/PLzr1ksHJJMTz2avp1iDlYYloKSKJKkFni.html Thanks for watching. It turned out to be a fun little engine.
Hello sir I'm new to your channel I have a 1979 el camino and I'm try to get it to sound like the glory 305 and you give me some feedback on how to or where to begin at on my 305 rebuild
Pretty much everything I've done with this truck will be in this playlist. ua-cam.com/play/PLzr1ksHJJMTz2avp1iDlYYloKSKJKkFni.html The cam is a Summit racing 1107. The exhaust is headers, 3" tube and 8" glass packs.

Will also drive it to work so something with power but street legal
Dude I love this video awesome job I've been meaning to do video's on my builds 👊 what I really thought was key was when you said it's how you start building race cars. I love square body's but I'm a gbody guy and I've had some bad ass 305's in my 88 monte LS 89 Chevy G10 short van and 87 regal and I still have a stock 305 in my 90 beauville van and running strong 💪 excellent 👌 video brother 👊
Thanks
My dad has a board 30 305 and One of the head cracked due to no antifreeze due to col weather is it better to get both heads replaced or just the one that's cracked
You can replace just the one.
Just in time for Independence Day..... Murica!!
Sound good
Hey I wondering if you have ever put a set of 305 heads on a 307 small block.
@squarebodystuff
You can also email me @squarebodystuff79@gmail.com
Got my 350 square body a just got me a 305 Chevy square body also just haveing trouble with wires to start but ima get 1goose hot box to start her any 1 got any suggestions if any thank u
Just found you today. My dad just gave me his 1986 square body.
Wanting yo gos it up.
First question is dash pad. All I can find is the plastic cover. Is that all that’s out there.
I always said you can get a bit of power out 305
More than most realize
I love that lets go
Hey man I have a 88 305 chevy and having trouble getting the motor in time any tips or tricks you can tell me?
Cam timing or ignition timing?
@@SquarebodyStuff ignition timing
Did you have the distributor out?
@@SquarebodyStuff yes all the way out this is my first engine build
Make sure you have the engine at top dead center on the compression stroke when you stab it. Verify the firing order is correct. If it's TBI, Unplug the timing reset wire and set the timing to zero. Plug the wire back in and you should be good.
Sounds good
Thanks
Love it.
You're going to make me want to build a 305 more soon than that 413 👍🚒👍🍿 Love the engine stand. Do you have a video on it I'm thinking about building one myself.
Yeah, I have a video on it somewhere.
I bought a really clean 86 silverado with a tired 305. Is it worth it to keep originality and rebuild the 305, or should I go with something better?
If you are gonna completely rebuild one I would suggest stepping up to at least a 350. But if your 305 is in decent shape, add a cam, intake, headers and some decent exhaust and enjoy it.
@@SquarebodyStuff thats the same position im in. got a '94 shortbed single cab with a 305tbi that runs way too good to pull out! time to fire up the mastercard :-)
Did you do anything to the motor to run that big of cam ? Like head work bore the block ?
Just a cheap set of "z/28" valve springs and lapped the valves. I have a few videos showing what I did to the motor. It was just a low budget deal to show that 305s can be fun if it's all you got.
I have a 79 El Camino widow 305 so could I put that cam in my stock 305 and it would run with the stock heads and block
I would suggest some different valve springs, but other than that ,everything else on this engine is stock.
@@SquarebodyStuff Will do….as long as I can have a daily driver and it sounds good like that. I just leave the 305 in it…Thanks for the info
Tht sounds badddassss!! 🤟🤟
Thanks
This is what it is what that 305 is now. A stroker 339.ua-cam.com/users/shortsgaGQ1BUsx48?feature=share
Where the heads stock ? I have a 307 that was gonna put 305 416 heads on .
Yes stock 434 castings.
Were you wanting as much vacuum as possible or power?
It was the biggest cheap cam that would take advantage of the flow of the crappy stock heads. I was hoping to have enough vacuum for brakes. So far I have no issues with vacuum.
🇺🇸 Sounds healthy. 👍🏻
Thanks, since this video, I've turned this 305 into a 339. This link is to the first dyno session with it. ua-cam.com/video/3TW-43a_FdM/v-deo.html
I have some current videos of it at the dragstrip also.
Was it bored over? Or factory pistons?
Love it😆
Thanks
Where you able to use stock push rod length? And would new stock valve spring be ok or would upgrading them be better? And lastly was this stock rocker ratio? Lol sorry for all the questions I really like how this sounds and wanna do it to my 305
Just stock length pushrods. I would upgrade the springs, the "Z/28" springs I used are basically a heavier stock replacement. No machine work required to use them and will handle up to around .550 lift. I also used stock rockers. Pure budget build. Here's the playlist that shows the progression of the build ua-cam.com/play/PLzr1ksHJJMTz2avp1iDlYYloKSKJKkFni.html
Thanks for watching. It turned out to be a fun little engine.
hello, do you increased compression more than stock? how do you did? how the more economical way to do this? thanks a lot
Yes, it's 9.5:1 comp. I used flat top pistons
@@SquarebodyStuff thanks a lot........
@@SquarebodyStuff do you used original valves?
@douglasboletini314 yes
@douglasboletini314 here's a video of the heads. ua-cam.com/video/PapDwsWYXqU/v-deo.html
Hey I have a 305 bored 60 over dished piston could I put 062 vortec heads on it
Yes, but i believe they will lower the compression ratio.
@@SquarebodyStuff thanks I decided to leave the 601 heads on it
Hello sir I'm new to your channel I have a 1979 el camino and I'm try to get it to sound like the glory 305 and you give me some feedback on how to or where to begin at on my 305 rebuild
Pretty much everything I've done with this truck will be in this playlist. ua-cam.com/play/PLzr1ksHJJMTz2avp1iDlYYloKSKJKkFni.html
The cam is a Summit racing 1107. The exhaust is headers, 3" tube and 8" glass packs.
Yes
What should the SBC 305/350 timing be set at during the cam break in and what should it be after the break in? Please help!
In the neighborhood of 36 degrees total timing
hey i want to change out my springs and push rods, and put a mild cam in it you think your set up would fit? GREAT MOTOR SOUNDS UNREAL!
It should, I didn't make any mods to anything.
HATS OFF
