Bernie - Excellent. I've also asked my local library to purchase your book. I definitely think I'll be a better sewist the more I learn about how a sewing machine works and trouble shooting/maintaining it.
I have a Singer 2638 and yesterday the bobbin winder started slipping. It starts winding, but starts to slip and the handwheel starts turning. The belts look fine, as well as the bobbin washer (not sure what it's called). Any advice?

Our best advice is to bring it to a sewing machine repair person.
