Koshy’s is a landmark establishment in Bengaluru that has been around since the 1950s, popular for its old world charm and vintage decor.
In this episode of Gourmet On The Road, Food Lovers’ Editor Kripal Amanna, meets with Mr. Prem Koshy, third generation co-owner of this hallowed institution to discover its surprisingly humble origins.
He savours some of the most popular breakfast items from their expansive menu, including the homemade Baked Beans on Toast, Chicken Liver on Toast, Club Sandwich and of course, their signature Appam and Stew, a signature dish that is served only on Sunday!

I am a journalist fro Sri Lanka . Koshy's owner expressed a very profound utterance in his interview . "I am not koshy's owner but its keeper. I fill the space of service ," he said. I suggest he opens a koshy branch in Colombo as a source of inspiration and emulation. Well done
We foodies needed such a channel, purely passionate and professional... no beating around the bush or drama... keep going
Dude there is only beating arround the bush and added drama here not tell it because I hate him or anything but what you said is correct.

Mouthwatering recipes my favourite recipes iam missing lovely breakfast 👍👍
doesn’t if feel weird to be amongst your own people and still speak a foreign language? even as a nri to me this feels like the only thing that has changed in India since the time of those photographs at Koshy’s is that now the royalty has brown skin. This might be a little ignorant of me not being from the south but for christ’s sake 😉 do this in the language of the staff who work their 🤯. The rest of us will bear with the subtitles, your lordship 🙏🏼
other than that it was 👍🏼
Thank you for taking us through ur experience at Koshey Banglore! Have made a note in my next visit to Banglaore will surely Visit this place
Wow, nostalgia!! Use to go there often with my parents. My parents use to meet at koshys while they were dating!!
Wow! That’s nostalgia indeed. Thank you for sharing! 🙏
Beautiful history
You prolly dont give a shit but if you are stoned like me atm you can stream pretty much all of the new movies on Instaflixxer. Have been streaming with my brother lately =)
@Curtis Rodney Definitely, I have been watching on instaflixxer for since december myself :)
Another gem in the Food Lovers TV treasury. I still love Koshy's for what it is. Waiters who have worked here for decades, the softness and flavour of the bread used. Be it in sandwiches or toasted and topped with liver. Pity they don't have appams and mutton stew on other days. Oh and that coffee! Great work Kripal Ammanna. Keep rolling!
You are such a natural talker. Every word is meaningful. Go international. This will explode
Yes agree . He should visit other countries . It will be wonderful!
I can smell the aroma of the Koshy's traditionally baked bread! So this Koshy episode has served food for the thought - Grandpa's quote ' You are not the owners, but the keepers ' ! Excellent content! MUSIC TOO GOOD!
Bangalore's Pride, Excellent dishes. Thanks to founders & family.
This episode takes me back to my MBA days in Bangalore, now Bengaluru. Appam and stew used to be the Sunday morning ritual for us. However, I really liked the honesty you showed while rating the dishes and did not let the legendary status of Koshy's influence you. Most of these dishes you ate I had tasted and completely agree with your ratings.
How old r you
This channel reminds me of the finer nuances of food and anchoring that are lost in the mush of today's sensory overload
Takes me back to 1967 when I first had Appam stew I think. Those were the days my friend!!!
Nostalgia
@@rabim106 Damn right!!!!
Mr.Nayar I approve of this Comment. 67'was a wonderful time
Awesome presentation and proud of the owner.
i still remember the 2 hours breakfast around a couple of years ago on a sunday with my schoolmate. we shared lots of dishes. after seeing this video....i am sure that my next trip will be coming up very soon....
Interesting chat with the ~owner~ keeper of Koshys .. brilliant attitude and the passion for food is so engrossing. Total treat to watch what's the mindset of business owners running successful food outlets. esp since it's a really tough act to follow. really look upto such awesome entrepreneurs. loved the video
Awesome Kripal, this is one of my fave places. fascinating seeing you bringing this to everyone !! Keep going !!!!!! Appam stew and mutton cutlets !!!!!! yummmy!!!!
Lovely Choice! Delighted to watch such a Video. Utterly Butterly Delicious
My Appreciation to the Present Kosy for keeping the great legendary of Kosy's alive with uncompromising quality
Koshy's is love ❤️ This part of the city is so beautiful
Loyalty is something which I respect the most . 6:30 moved.
Never heard about Koshy's until I saw it on Food Lovers TV today. Humm, I guessed Kripal's taste buds right today, Appam with Stew, Mutton Cutlet, Chicken Liver on Toast and the Spanish Omlette!!! Just had a Vegetarian dinner from a South Indian restaurant in Delhi, however you managed to awake the Hunger Maniac in me......! No wonder Food Lovers TV is the ultimate platform to learn about the discerning / deserving food joints in Karnataka. Kudos, excellent work.
Just curious, what parts of Bangalore you're familiar with? I just want an idea about what people find the norm about Bangalore these days... whatever's trending these days!? please lemme know...
I saw the entire episode with mouth watering all times. On my list for sure for next Bengaluru visit.
6:10 golden words.. ♥️
Prem Koshy is a genuine humble legend. His personal humility and that of his ( n brothers) family's goodness n generosity of spirit remain at the core of this wonderful institution.
Great video with fab content of a deserving place. Rock on Kripal! So much of joy in this episode
Really appreciate your work! Fantastic presentation and yet another best video! Thanks Kripal Sir!
Though not a non vegetarian but this episode has made me to try and change my mind. I feel it's one of your best episodes till date. The improvement has been very much visible. Can't wait to shift to Bengaluru and try each and every dish you have covered till now. All the very best to you!!
One of the best food vlogs from you Kripal ..I love the way you explain , literally take us to the place and make us taste what you are tasting...alwys mouth watering during your show..one surprise is how you are so fit inspite of eating so much and so many vareity of food !!!kudos to you and your team!!!
Such a loyal team and such loyal owner. I haven’t tasted the food but I believe it would be great.👍
I am tired of saying this is a good episode in the past few months. Each episode beats the other... Too good yet again and the choices made in Koshys were spot on!
Kripal Sir - Visited this place over the weekend after watching your video and tasted Ginger Fruit Punch, Baked Beans on Toast and Club Sandwich.. above all, loved all the photo collections of Old Bengaluru..!! Appreciate your passion towards exploring such unique venues and thank you once again 😊
You’re welcome, Keshavamurthy, Koshy’s is a delicious slice of nostalgia.
Appreciate your response Kripal Sir. I do not want brag about this place and wanted to make a humble recommendation on one of the most favorite and populous bakery in my hometown. Addressed is mentioned below. You can definitely explore this place whenever you come for a ride towards Nandi Hills and beyond.
Sri Venkateswara Bakery
Sidlaghatta Circle
Chikkaballapura - 562101
There is something unique in the places you visit , i am feeling nostalgic now.
Thanks. You are the best with content and quality. Keep it up foodlovers team👍
Koshy's inhouse made bread is the best bread I have eaten here in Bangalore. Everytime I visit Koshy's whatever different item I may order that day, I make sure I always have at least one slice of bread and butter. Absolutely the best! My other favorite is chicken liver on toast.
I joined Wipro systems in 1996 and we used to work out of MG Road, SB Towers and Lavelle road offices. Koshys , KC Das and Oasis were our favourite places. Thanks for a lovely video on Koshys. I am tempted to go back with my kids.
There was one Brindavan restaurant as well..
Wow! The food is so tempting! Above all, the whole setup at Koshy's gives a sense of ownership to everyone who works there. Bravo!
Hi Kripal. Your channel and video(s) is one of the main reasons why I proudly pay for my internet. I've subscribed to many food vloggers but there is something about your channel that makes be smile ear to ear throughout the video(s). Thank you!
If you really support them , pay by donating to make up for time and cost to do this kind of work.
If everyone who loves the videos pays even Rs 100 / year , they'll do even better
@@davelawson2564 🍁Excellent encouragement Dave, totally agree!
@@ramit439 Most ppl think all this can be done for free and just bcoz they pay for internet datacard all this should be free !
@@davelawson2564 Your comment does not make sense to me at all. Your taking my comment to some other direction. What I meant is that I do not regret getting an internet connection and I don't feel sad when I pay for the same because of the content like these that exists on the Internet. Sigh! 🤦
There is no Bangalore without Koshy's..period!!!
This is a kind of restaurant that defines an entire city and its food culture
Looks like you need to explore more of BengaLuru!
My father in law loves this place and so do all of us, just love the food and the ambience
I'm watching all videos in this lockdown. These videos are amazing. Absolutely love the content delivery.
One of the best episodes I have seen on this channel 👏👍
Great ambience, inspiring story, humble owners, all together had goosebumps. They are fortunate enough to have such loyal staffs. Yummy toasts and cutlets. Hmmmm... mouth watering dishes. You've given us a great feast sir.🙏❤
That's one heck of a comprehensive restaurant review. Fabulous work to show us the legacy and kitchen of this place as well.. great content, sir. Am glad you enjoy your work. It definitely is enjoyable for us to consume as viewers.
You are such a natural speaker. Every word meaningful. Go international. It will explode
On a fine Sunday morning after standing in queue for 45 mins, we had a nice cold breakfast here at Koshys. Extremely cheap too for the taste of heaven provided by COLD scrambled eggs, a thin slice of tomato some fries with bacon and COLD Appam with stew. Kripal's review of restaurants is so enlightening. Thank you!
Good review. Time to visit the iconic Koshy's again!
I have been watching your videos since from a while...you are really coming up with some good old restaurants that people never knew...
You bring back memories, memories all the way!
I’m from Malaysia! Visited Koshy’s in 2019 and I loved everything about the restaurant!
This gentle man is doing a fab job.
Hearty eater , gormandizer ! Wonderful photography . Photography is a way of feeling , of touching , of loving !!
When I watch your vlogs I feel the satiety at the end.
The best in the field undoubtedly
Absolute Nostalgia!!! Sat at that very spot several times as a child and into my adulthood, with my parents, eating those very same orders. My first taste of Mushrooms on toast, baked beans in toast, chicken liver on toast, steaks, and cold coffee!! That place is home to me- so comforting ! And Kripal for a little man that you are- please tell me you didn’t eat all that at one go😀
Happy this video bought back memories, and yes, this was in one tasting session over a couple of hours or so. Suffice to say I ate nothing the rest of the day! 🙂
Great detailing, Kripal, must be the best video by far!
Your videos are fabulous. Food lovers need such videos to be aware of different eateries and what's available at different places. Truly fantastic!!!
This episode was humbling, and enlightening... I hope to visit my parents hometown someday and witness this beautiful little story of a restaurant as well! Thank you for all that you do!
🍁Agree
🇨🇦Another beautiful vedio...So fascinating to hear about staff at Koshys and history as well. Thanks. We can’t wait to see your next video.. great job
nice content . Saw Koshy's couple of times , will try soon. Thanks Sir
The best presentation of your channel! Love it!
Thank you for doing this episode. Brought back memories from 15 yrs ago when I used to hangout with friends . One pro tip, to get the real vibes of the place, always eat in the regular area and not the AC hall =)
Excellant breakfast with so many varieties of mouthwatering choices wow lov koshys
Excellent presentation on food at Koshy's. Good that you are indicating prices of various dishes that you order.
Hi Kripal, another super hit episode from you which transformed almost the tasting feel to the viewers as you do always. I have a question and i am curious to know the answer. I have noticed this in all the episodes, as you are reviewing and take a bite of the food, but still your comment continues. It cannot be a dubbed one because the continuity is maintained perfectly including the live sounds. How do you do this? Its something different and adorable.
after watching this video for 2 years I finally went to Bangalore last week and visited Koshy's and had the opportunity to meet Mr.Prem as well gotta say that it was a beautiful experience.
The waiters own the place, the coffee master has brewing the magic mix for 46 overs, the appam master has been churning out the appams for 36 years,...!!!.
The place is enmeshed in a time capsule!!!... A Timeless Classic in this fast paced world ,may the legacy continue for ever...!!!Nice vedio upload Sir....!!!
A must breakfast Haven for the St Mark's Cathedral's congregation, after Sunday mass. Mote (Egg) Appams and Chicken Stew, is Kodhy's signature dish.
High tea, a variety of Patties, Pastries and their unique Mutton sandwiches, with the tinge of Dujon Mustard. Hats off to Prem Koshy for continuing and preserving the Kodhy's legacy.
You should have a show on tv .... real beautiful presentation.
Boy, you transported me back 30 years and served Appam and mutton stew...10/10 then...10/10 now...take a bow...
Heritage restaurant, great gourmet friendly food, interactive, informative owner...
By far the best entertaining episode on FL...A really wonderful one kripal ji...
You're just graduated in the art of eating 😅😅
Just fabulous, way you feel the food make every viewer foodie
Oh! My god the food and the way u describe and eat😋😋😋 really mouth watering
Wonderful food...super presentation...awesome video
You are an amazing presenter...i have been watching ur videos since a month or so...and i am totally awestruck by the way you explore and introduce amazing food to us.... Try to plan for fan meetups... 😃
many good times spent here !
My famous adda !
Past memories.
This used to be my father's favourite when we were rich. ❤️ When ever we were in Bangalore this used to be on the do list. He used to like their prawns fry. Which used to look like cashews.
When we were rich ? Now you are not rich ?
Probably the best vlog so far
I love the way u express the taste....and ur eating style makes me hungry....
Koshys ..I loved this place and the food ..awesome ..hats off to the keepers .
I'm still amazed how kripal still manages to stay so thin... 🙄🙏🙏
I agree he eats so much still maintains his weight
His tongue is so lucky
He only eats like that maybe once in a month. And probably doesn’t eat all the food too. Love Koshys. They are family friends.
He does intermittent fasting
Must be having only one meal in a day..
yumm... now i know what to order at koshys!!
My mother has told me Koshys restaurant was a german club and Koshy was a great chef working their who migrated from kottayam after Sir CP Ramaswamy iyer (Diwan of Travancore )had closed down the Quilon bank along with Malayala Manorama newspaper owned by Kandathil family. Chef was very popular among the germans for his heart shape chicken recepie eventually after the indian independence, club was handed over by the germans to their favorite chef.
Really appreciate Your Work .Koshy s Retso are too good....Best Management by Koshy brothers
Soooo satisfying 😍😋
Taking us through delicious treasures
Enjoyed every thing about this - your commentary, your enjoyment and the owner's explanation. By the way, there is a gentleman, Mr Darius Taraporewala, who I have been told is one of the very old customers (He is 71 plus), I read some where that he must have consumed more than 18000 chicken patice at Koshys. If it is so, it must be a world record!. Many thanks.
Thank you Mr Vasubhai, for your kind comment. I think I did shake hands with Mr Taraporewala when I was shooting this episode. Appreciate the info nugget on his fondness for the chicken patties at Koshy’s.
Great 👍🏼 Thank You
One of the best hotel I have seen in this channel
Loved it 😍
Sir , your way of presentation and wordsworthy explanation of the food, its taste is gr8😋😊
Keep goin' 👍
Kripal,
Truly a landmark review of Koshy's.
If MTR is the Kashi of food, Koshy's is the Mecca of food
Do you know that when there was a sizable population of Anglo Indians ,
this was their waterhole. Anglo Indians would be prepared to die for a good Apam.
This was their breakfast review. Prem would offer a fantastic dinner with their
Own brand of Biriyani. I am looking forward to Dinner review.
Thanks once again Kripal.
Allways good explanation by kripal sir
Wow ..looks great.surprisingly never heard during my last visits to Bengaluru
Before your cam rolled into Koshy I could make out we entering nostalgia.
Apart from 5star very few places serve Appam Koshy looks one of them.
Sir, I like the way you narrating the dish....... Thank you 😊
Well done! 👍
I wish I could have a tummy like yours! 😅
Love your videos ❤️
What a episode beautiful
Koshy's is an Iconic restaurant (before modification and after). Sundays morning in Koshy's main hall. cannot forget those days. One place you will not think about food because it will be nice as always. Have to say about the waiters, they are all there for minimum of 20 years. They are very gentle and accommodating, that feeling you cannot express by words.
My dad and mom would go there every Friday. They are both no more, but I go there whenever i am in Bengaluru. It is a homage! There are a few in the staff who still remember Air Commodore Srinivasan. They fondly remember him and the table that was ‘his’ on Friday evenings!
Lots of Love to U for the Mindful and passionate way of Tasting a Food ! 😍😘
Your narrative is SUPER...
