- Beforehand: be hydrated, do stretches, stand straight, sigh, yawn, start focusing on your singing session, feel happy about doing it :-)
- Humming (softly!): activates your vocal cords (in case you haven't been speaking until now)
- Mum: start projecting (feel the "m" vibrate your lips and open your jaw to "spit out" the "ah"s)
- Lip roll: loosens your lips, warms up embouchure muscles, engages air flow control, massages your throat (beginner note: this is a skill in and of itself, don't be discouraged if you can't do it just yet!)
- Goog: raises your soft palate, requires you to maintain good embouchure, glottal attack further warms up muscles in your throat
- Beginner addition: throughout the entire warm up you train your muscle memory for volume and pitch (intervals) and your range. Aim for clean phonation and consistence. Get familiar with your singing voice.
- Intermediate addition: throughout the entire warm up you can train your mixed voice and improve your vowel shape and resonance as well as projection.

My daughter has a musical show today
As a woman I’ve always been embarrassed about having a “boyish” voice. Like a young boy going through puberty lol. Working on my voice at least twice a week has helped me stabilize my words while speaking and made me feel much more feminine and mature. ❤
You’re not alone, as a female with a deep voice I have always sounded older than how i really was as a little kid. i also sounded very masculine, especially on a recording. Singing has helped me with sounded different and gave me a larger range. It also had me appreci having a deep voice because I can hit impressive notes as i have a large range.
There is nothing wrong or bad about sounding masculine.
However, kudos to you for seeking to improve regardless. Good luck!

Edit: The audition went great! I ended up getting callbacks for the 3 main roles that I wanted!! We get results this morning!!

Im a young girl. I got a natural talent for singing, but I've picked up smoking a couple of years ago. I used to be able to sing without necessarily doing these warmups, it makes me feel a profound grief a mother would when losing her child. But reading all the encouraging advice does cheer me up. I have been a singer for decades and have never warmed up (unless you consider the first song a warmup 🙂). Since turning 60, I am considering making some changes to protect my voice for future. My tone and range are better than when I was twenty but it never hurts to get better.

I’ve been practicing for 3-4 weeks but haven’t recorded my progress until now so here’s what I have improved on throughout the last 3 weeks (started September 5th)
Day 1: 👍 I didn’t really research what vocal warmups were really for and just assumed it was for practice so I heavily strained
Day 2: 👍 Less strain but still had a burning throat
Day 3: 👍 did some research and tried to not strain
Day 4: 👍 could not reach the higher notes so I paused the video and de-escalated from there
Day 5: 👍 no improvements yet but throat was indeed recovering
Day 6: 👍 started singing nursery rhymes to cope with the strain recovery

heres my story: ive seen singing for 8 or 9 years, and for the first 3-4 years i felt stuck, it was more my own mind anyways but sometimes our own thoughts can bring us down so easily.... i didnt give up tho and keept on pushing my limits because i loved it.
nowadays i sing all arround my city and everyone loves my singing, i do my own songs, im very happy about my progress and the fact that i didnt give up.
