Great series on the SVT Lightning!!! My 1st lightning was a used 99. Then in 2004 I traded it in on a brand new one. Left it bone stock and today I still have it with only 65K miles on the clock. Over the years I dreamed about doing different mods but it ran so nice I left it alone. Thought about selling it now that I’m in my 70’s but after watching this lightning series I don’t see how I can part with my old friend 😢. Matter of fact I think I’ll go out in the garage with a cup of coffee, turn on some tunes and do a little dusting under the hood. Thanks for the inspiration everyone. ❤

And the reason he is called the gaffer is cause he is blamed for all the electrical issues............... and kinda like Peter he Laughs a lot (curses actually).

For that pipe, you can take a piece of flat metal and put it on the opposite side of where you want the bend to be and use a c-clamp on the other side. Put the screw side where you're applying heat at and it will push it in. The piece of metal on the opposite side will prevent it from scuffing up or bending.

I have a 5.4 f150 with the super cooling package. That lower radiator hose always scared me with the lines going to the oil cooler.
Do Note that the gasket on the oil cooler mounted on the filter housing can go bad. Causing the coolant and oil to mix.
If you have one of these trucks with oil/coolant mixing. Do a combustion leak test. because It may be the oil cooler and not the head gasket.

    @Brock_Landers 2 роки тому +1

Bud I'm really glad you sandblasted and painted that frame because those are really beautiful and fast trucks. This one is clean and it deserves to be restored and built with a forged engine. It'd be awesome to see this thing get a turbo some day and get rid of the supercharger. I'm not saying that the supercharger can't be modified to make good power, but they usually can't make the kind of power that a big single turbo can. I told you in the last video that my 1992 Acura Integra with a T3 turbo making 408 whp at 15 psi with a B18A1 was almost unbeatable in the long run with drag radials on the front, and the only vehicle that could really put a whooping on me was a modified 2003 Ford Lightning. I never thought that my car would be as fast as it was, and I never expected it to be a real contender (neither did anyone else in the area), but it did, and the Lightning was the only vehicle that ever really gave me a good run and he edged me out every time. I worked my butt off to get back at him, but I didn't have forged internals at the time, so I had to try different tire pressures and work with what I had at the time. Still, he had 20" chrome wheels and he had a 5 speed manual trans in it, and he always dusted me by just over half a vehicle length. To this day I have a 1997 Honda Civic coupe with a fully built LSVTEC with a Garrett GTS3582 turbo that made 709 whp, but there's no street racing scene like it was back then because the cops got smarter, but it's still fun to whoop on the unsuspecting.

its always nice to see people like you that are keeping the SVT legacy alive i my self i have 3 4 door SVT focus very rare cars and i bought a 4th one 2 door for parts to keep dose 3 cars alive and well i felt kind of bad when i took the first bolt off of it but i manage to fix 2 of the 3 cars that where dead and im glad i did that to keep dose rare cars on the road what i regret its not be able to buy the SVT contour, that seem like a fun car to drive but it wasnt that popular back in the days and they where very hard to find. cant wait to see this SVT LIGHTNING on more episodes take care keep up the good work

Happy the truck just got back on the road! I’ve been watching along with the suspension and steering changes because I just bought my first lighting two weeks ago! Paid 20k for a 2002 true blue with 85k miles and bone stock. Car just seems to have been neglected for the past few years and I’m doing standard changes to get it back up and going. Good luck with the truck and thank you for the videos!

    Awesome video!
Here a tip - I normally hold the fan at the top of the blade while it inside the shroud when putting a new radiator back in then screw the fan in before bolting the radiator onto the body.
It allow me to move the radiator around a bit to screw the fan onto the water pump and I wouldn’t have to struggle putting the fan on trying to squeeze it between the engine and shroud since I already installed radiator with fan inside the shroud.
    Loved your truck!

If you havent finished the fans all you need to do is trim the lower tabs & by a pair of Hayden 3655 PWM fan controllers from your local parts store. I did the same fan mod on my 2003 F150 using a fan assembly from a 2013 f150 3.5 with tow package. Using separate controllers lets the primary fan run & you can set the temp for the 2nd to come on at a higher temp. On mine I was still able to use the core support cover to keep the factory look

Make sure you clean that throttle plate. When you did the unwrapping on the crate I noticed how much carbon there was. In your last video when first starting it up you tried blipping the throttle and remarked that it was sticking. In this video you mentioned at one point the idle was high and you had to manually shut the throttle body all the way. It’s a beautiful truck. My first job at a ford dealer back in ‘03 was replacing an engine in one that some 16 year old kids parents bought him. He chipped it and sent a rod through the block. Remember him complaining how he could never have anything nice. I thought what a douchebag. I was driving an ‘82 Buick Park Ave at the time that I spent an entire summer working and saving up to buy.

Hey Alex, love the channel been following you for a long time. I have a 2003 E55 myself. A lot of work I did was because of you. I do live in Georgia so I appreciate the invite with Tony. He’s done My tune , transmission build, suspension work. Would love to show you.
But I do have one problem. You keep saying that the supercharger cooling system ran on the hot water from the engine. It does not. I know you’re probably raising your eyebrows up confused. But if you think about it you will agree.
It does not run on the hot water. It runs on the lower radiator hose to which if you use a laser thermostat runs at about 90°. Not the upper hose which runs at 200°. So it’s using the cooler water to cool the supercharger I run a split cooling system now and it runs at about 90° without ice.
Actually that is the only advantage that you can add ice. But I don’t unless I’m going to Race. So on average 90° weather you split your cooling system or not is the temperature of the coolant going to the supercharger. Think about that.

Name of that video was header bash.....Hot rod editor David freiburger, Steve dulsich, on westec Dyno, also did a very interesting air filter test where a salad bowl with the bottom cut out makes HP, and one popular aftermarket filter kills 130 HP on a 500hp small block........it's totally a fun watch
