My 2013 Jetta had a problem where it made a screeching noise for years. I knew it worked fine, and was a defect, but it was so loud. Moved to a state where it constantly rains so I couldn’t take the noise anymore. Took it to the mechanic and he warned me it would only be a matter of days before it broke. Funny because I’ve been driving with it for over +4years. He wanted to charge me for 3 hours worth of labor and $500 to replace this motor. Ordered it brand new on Amazon for $70 and replaced it in 1 hour after watching this video. Thank you!
Amazing video.Thank you. My wiper motor died after the winter storm. Vw dealership wanted 600$, mechanic500$(parts,labor, tax) . Autozone sells motor for 180$, no linkage,they wanted me to wait for days. I watched your video, went to the junkyard and pulled out myself the motor with the linkage in 10min. Installation was even easier since i practiced at the junkyard. Wiper motor with the linkage costed me 70$ in total!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Falconer, THANK YOU for making this video! I was quoted $1,000 at a VW dealership in Minnesota to replace the wiper motor. I bought a new (refurbished) motor for less than $200. In less than an hour, we had the old one out, and new one in. It worked great to follow along with your video. Thank you!!
Used this video extensively working on this replacement. Very very helpful, will suggest anyone watching to mark with a marker the linkage (short arm on the back that attaches to the motor itself) otherwise you'll be struggling to align it properly.

Great video. Be careful the new wiper motor from VW has the linkage already attached(old one his held on with 13mm?). If you use the one from VW you must change the linkage as well. I got a new Cardone motor from CarId. It fit perfectly. FYI you may need a small puller to get wiper arms off.
Thank you for making this video. I replaced my motor and linkage as it was seized. However now my wipers always park in the middle of the windshield instead of at the bottom. I even tried letting the motor home itself, then bolt the wipers back on at the base of windshield. Turn them on, and they park in middle again when I turn them off. I even took out the linkage, manually pushed it to the parked position, re-installed and turned car on, let wipers run, no issues. Turn them off and they park in middle of windshield again. This wouldn't be a fuse or relay right? Any ideas?

Yeah the 2012 or 6th gen jetta are pretty notorious for wiper motor failure my gf has one and it's using the wipers is a terrible experience been putting off fixing it as I usually work on mostly donestics(with the exception of Toyotas and maybe Honda and Nissan)
Thanks for the video... The vw jetta wiper motors are not sealed correctly which leads to ingress of water inside the motor which leads to the motor to fail in general and i would imagine in colder climates the water that has got inside of the motor and freeze leading to failure... Im in comiefornia so i dont have snow really (maybe 2 times in 30 years) .. Just a tip take a marker and mark on a couple spots to keep the linkage lined up right anywhere parts cross (don't worry it wont be seen from under the cowl when its all back together)
Oh wow, thanks for the info. I’m preparing to just change my fuse, b/c the dealer wants to charge me $130 just to look at it, before they can tell me if it’s covered under my warranty. Hoping it’s not the motor, guessing that will be a more expensive fix.
@@Tibori23 try to see if you have any local shops that'll do it for cheaper the wiper motor from vw for a jetta will cost you like 300-400dollars cause they sell the motor and transmission together (they can be separated I did it for my gfs car) it's not super hard just got to make sure everything is lined back up right. I got one from a auto dismantling yard for 40 bucks and did it myself.. they are prone to failed on the mrk 6 jetta , golfs and passats along. You can use a wiper motor from most of these if I remember right they are mounted and wired the same on the same generation jetta and gold at least. Just double check a cross reference
@@Tibori23 also how did it stop did it make grinding noises then slow down and eventually over time stop? If so the motor is fried cause that's what my gfs did over the time frame of like 4 months it sounded like a dying cat and eventually just bit the ghost and stopped out right.
LowMan Josh thanks! It miraculously started working again after my husband found the fusebox, removed the fuse and put it right back in since it wasn’t blown. He witnessed it himself not working prior to doing all this, proving I am not crazy.
I did this however the wipers, after being used they dont hide away! I need to postirion them right and then place the screw any idea which one specific it is?
If I remember correctly I was showing where the fuse was located because VW doesn’t provide that info. I’m pretty sure my fuse was good so I moved on to the motor.👍👍
Do you see a pool of water in the area under the cowl? It is not sealed very well and may need some additional sealing. It possible it keeps getting wet

LowMan Josh no noises at all, just went to turn them on while I was driving and nothing happened. No signs prior to, just nothing.

It actually turned out to be the wiper arms that were damaged lol... the splines were stripped right off, so it wouldn't rotate..
