Thanks for having me lads! It was an absolute blast hanging out with you and playing all of the notes.
You were great man, really interesting to listen to your process of choosing the setup. Yer a monster player too!
Congrats as always mate, knew you'd make it big for years.
Awesome as always dude 🤘🏻
Dam brother you can play that thang 👌👌👌👌
Just shows, skills for the win. Expensive gear is great, sugar sprinkles only though. Awesome playing!
Nick is that chatty guy who is a +1 to a party but everyone gets on with straight away. great vid
Would love to see more of Nick on the channel!
With all the love in the world for Rabea, Pete, and John, this was not just the best 'pick a rig under 1000' video, it was one of the best pedal demo videos I've seen. Nick's pragmatism is a wonderful match for his ability to get the tones he needs from the equipment he has.
I discovered Nick through this video and I LOVE this guy. You should have him hang around more often. I genuinely enjoyed his presence. Almost to the point where I think he should be the next Rob Chapman for the channel!
Nick is absolutely unbeliavable. That lick vocalbury, gear knowledge, tone taste. Mindblowing.
Looking at that Pacifica, why are there not more p90+humbucker ST models?
The other thing which is being ignored is just how effing good 'cheap' guitars have gotten.
This was a joy to watch. Nick is a great guest and his choice is really interesting. Nick has a really good way of describing the gear and why he does what he does with the gear.
Don't sleep on the Catalyst man, the cab and speaker are actually so freaking good for the price! The tones are really really great.
Entertaining, informative, fun. That closing out sequence was sheer genius. More Nick please!
Man was this pure gold! I don't even play the guitar and I can't get enough if these types of videos. More please Mr. Lee Anderton! Nick Jennison was awesome so personable and knowledgeable. What is in that Newcastle water for guitar players? Thank you so much
First time seeing Nick, this video was so engaging i didn't realise it was 53 mins long
Nick’s playing is one of my top favorites ever since the jam with Quayle! He has an awesome unique voice!
I had the pleasure of Nick recording my old band's EP. Such a lovely guy and a great (read: phenominal) player. As always keep up the good work Andertons.
Wow 👌 great episode 👏 deffo more of this guy 😎
My man Nick! Good to see this fabulous man here on Andertons!
More Nick features please! Great vid
that was awesome - Nick is cool, would def like to see him in more Andertons vids
Saw Nick with one of his band in The Dreadnought just outside Edinburgh a few years back, and he's a mighty presence on the stage - phenomenal guitarist who makes it look effortless, and his voice in just as insane too! Every bit the rockstar, but seems a cool guy too.
More Nick, More Nick!......
I first saw Nick demo the Vintage Thomas Blug signature strat and man what a great demo! Nick is an absolute master on the guitar!!!!
Awesome Nick. Flying the flag for the NE 🎸😀👍
Awesome episode! As a follow-up to these guest rigs, would love to see a short comparison to their actual gigging rigs!
That was an *AMAZING* episode. Great choice of guest! Nick obviously knows his stuff and he obviously enjoys teaching it. I must admit that I couldn't follow it all, because of the speed at which he was explaining, but anyone can see that he has a very profound breadth and depth of understanding of his subject. I cannot help thinking that he could provide a lot more real world help to us in your videos in the future (I am comparing here against $300 boutique buffer pedals, and celebrity-endorsed guitars with no pickup switch, for example). I love Lee and I love Pete, and for that matter I love Dave and Cici too, but please do invite Nick back. Maybe in time you can learn how to tame his million mile an hour mind and slow him down to mere human speeds lol! Maybe he could do a"Get the best out of..." series where he goes through the range of uses and variety of settings of each basic pedal type, giving hints and tips for better playability for one idea?
This a the captain meets and a pick ur rig video! Love it :)
Love Nick...what a great guy and awesome player.
Great episode!
Wow! Nick is some player on Guitar. Enjoyed this video with him.
Interesting choice with the Catalyst. That’s my main amp and it really is a phenomenal pedal platform, especially for a solid state amp. It’s got some real issues, IMO, but as a clean platform there really isn’t anything else like it shy of 800-1000 USD, IMO
Great fun and interesting to cheers guys
That was killer! I actually have the Squire Deluxe tele in black on black with the maple neck. Ended up putting some Tone Rider classic Alnico II pickups in it. It took care of that issue, and wow it sounds great. But I think the Golden plexi 1 was better than the 2.
This was awesome! :-)
loved this one👍👍👍👍👍
If that particular Squier Tele lasts for the next 50 years, it will NEVER experience a workout of that quality ever again..!!!
Great chops Nick.
Did a rolled note make a presence 🤣🤘.Great watch
Every Squier Affinity Tele Deluxe I played has the switch going front and back instead of up and down. It makes sense, but everyone is already used to it going up and down. I changed mine so it would match my other guitars. I replaced the electronics on mine with SD Phat Cats. For the price, with a good setup...it's a pretty good guitar. If all you have is 250-300 for a guitar, it'll get the job done. I like mine. The neck took a little work though.
It would be interesting to have Nick and Dave Simpson together for a video. They both seem very knowledgeable about pedals.
Also while I love the Victory pedals' designs, I feel my favorite overdrive, the DSM & Humboldt Silver Linings, can get pretty close to the Sheriff in its soft clipping mode and pretty close to the Kraken in its hard clipping mode. Might've saved a hundred pounds or two going with that pedal. 😀 For my 1000 pound live rig (could work as a bedroom rig, too, actually), I would need that pedal, my JCT95 fuzz wah pedal, a Les Paul or semihollow (probably one of the satin Epiphone Les Paul Specials for cost savings), and either a Marshall Origin 20C or an Orange Crush depending on whichever one keeps the rig under 1000.
Squier Strat with a Cab M+. The Cab M+ has a Fender Bassman clean pre-amp with cab sims and Reverb, and direct out for front of house. Then you have a few hundred left for pedals or a GT-1, etc. Simple, affordable, and reliable.
Hope one of the things that guitarists will clue into here is IT'S NOT THE PICKUPS!!!! Pedals + Amp (speakers) + decent guitar can give you amazing sound. And of course... being a good guitarist is a big plus.
Just a thought how about a couple of Tone City 2 channel pedals and the Purple passion Kramer Pacer guitar for that extra fret and 2 volume nobs and a wammy as well excellent .
And now Lee , choos sir !! Great Rig Nick. Cool stuff.
Yes Nick!!
I realize this is an old video at this point but was wondering if going with the $350 Kraken Preamp over the V1 Kraken pedal would have addressed the issue around the 33:50 time frame.
I have got all sorts of amps. Yet the one I have recently been playing is my old Line6 spider. (redface)
Skysurfer rocks. I love mine.
This guy had the most thought out reasons of why he picked than the other choose a rig videos.
Love my Skysurfer. I have the original, but I don't think there's much difference besides size and the toggle switch. Kind of a "must try" for the price. Same with the TC Prophet digital delay.
Check out Nick Jennison Tom quayle minor blues jam vid, Nicks blues on this is astonishing
Top chap! and a monster player...
I prefer it when the gear is picked out live in the video using the stores website. Walking through the store was the best and most fun however. Having all the gear already there was boring.
Great to see you Nick :) Hey man I thought the T custom blew the Pacifica away for tone!!
Deluxe I mean!!!!
That shirt is from Hollister!!
Nick Jennison Musical Genius!
What is the crucial difference between the XLR and TS out when going DI, that the sound guy won't use the TS but will use the XLR?
Nick the best Geordie export since Brown Ale. Legendary player, I have had the great honour of watching many of his blistering live performances.
Doesn't sound like a Geordie, more a Sunderland twang.
@@apexracing741 there is absolutely zero mackem twang in Nicks accent, please don't insult the lad. More like a tynesider who's maybe been privately educated. To be fair nick is quite 'posh'.
@@Foghornish Definitely more Sunderland softer accent. Whitburn area I would say then but definitely not full on Geordie, Andertons would have needed a translator if he was.
@@apexracing741 I’m from Blyth, so SE Northumberland. Definitely not privately educated, but years of making videos and coaching vocals soften the accent a lot though 😂
Good ears though!
WOW. Andertons’ the same length as California? No wonder you have so much gear with that amount of space…
Ha ha - no idea how I said Andertons when I meant to say the UK!!
I now feel old! Lee I share your pained expression having turned 50 this year!
I knew Andertons was a pretty big store, but to be roughly the same length as California seems like a stretch.
Not used to hearing F-bombs in Andertons videos 😂
What's going on with the 3rd fret of that pacifica
Nick is who I think I am! 😂😂😂
OK new subscriber of Nick!
If I missed it in the comments pllleeeaaassseee tell me the PRS model he’s playing in the beginning.
Is he wearing long black socks and black shorts , or kneeless jeans ? , stuff we need to know
These are knee-less jeans, but I have long black socks on underneath in case of an emergency 😂
@@NickJennison, you are indeed gifted with wonderful hair and common sense fashion accoutrements ,may your cleavage never droop xx
Looks like same trousers as Dave Simpson. Must be the ticket to success.
I'm getting a pair quick! Even if they help me get past remembering which string is which.
How did you guys mange to get Russel Brand in for an interview?
🔥Notes 🎶 ALL the Notes! 🎶🔥
A literal Jedi on the six string
Let’s got to 1mil subs. They Needa give away that KLON 🎉
Let's go! I'm 68 & running out of time!
I never realised Andertons was roughly the same size as California 😱
The other day... Two months ago!.. I suddenly got Dr Who vibes 😁
I would have given him 1001. So he could get a button for his shirt. 😂
This bit about 6:25 where he runs down who runs this school? Take notes on all of those names and look up their work and listen to it.
Damn.
"shhhhhiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit the bed..." --- lol @ CaptainLee
I'm about to buy my 3rd guitar- I have an Epi LP and a HSS Affinity Strat. I'm stuck deciding between the Pacifica 311 or a CV Tele in purple. Leaning toward the Pacifica right now- my reasoning is that I like a HB at the bridge position- I think. Tbh I've only tried one guitar that had a single coil at the bridge, and it was a piece of crap- a Squier Bullet. The single coil at the bridge sounded awful- thick and wooly, refused to smooth out even when I added tons of gain- so I returned it and ended up with the HSS Affinity Strat instead. That said- I've heard tons of ppl say Teles were extremely versatile and work even for heavy stuff so- makes me wonder if the single coil in it is different. I don't want it to be high output- I just want it to smooth out when you hit it with some gain and not be overly thick or wooly.
CV tele is the one! But that’s just me.
@@benlogan430 Thing is- the Pacifica comes with Tusk nut and trees, locking tuners, has a P90 in it, and the rear HB splits so I could still have the single coil option at the bridge if I really wanted it. Plus- everybody plays a CV Tele now- I like having something a little different. And I already have two very traditional, classic guitars- a Strat and a Les Paul. Plus- I can always buy the Tele down the road- I'm sure Fender will come out with something to top the CV line soon- the competition is starting to surpass the features and quality of the line at this point. Thanks for the feedback though- the CV Tele is a definitely a great option.
@@stoneysdead689 Sounds like you made your mind up before you asked the question but I can confirm that Teles are surprisingly good for higher gain stuff. I assumed they’d be similar to single coil Strats in that respect but they aren’t at all. EDIT: Although to be fair, if you spend a little time dialling in an amp or modeller especially for a Strat, you can get some great high gain tones out of them too. What I’ve found is that if you plug one into a rig that you’ve set up while playing a humbucker-equipped guitar, it will often sound like sh**.
@@markseymour8365 Well yeah, that makes sense- a HB is a whole different animal. Higher output, more low-end frequencies- it's not going to sound good plugged into a single coil rig either. I mean you can tweak it and make it sound ok usually but- some pedals and amps are just not designed with HBs in mind. Everyone plays Fenders now days- and those who don't play "S" style guitars or "T" styles- knock offs of Fenders. So, most pedal makers and amp makers design with single coils in mind.
As for the Tele- I haven't made up my mind not to get one- I made up my mind not to get one right now. Right now- while I've got a bead on a P90 guitar with locking tuners, tusk nut, etc. for the same money- I'm going to pull the trigger and get it. The CV Tele isn't going anywhere- I'll get one later.
I've already got a Strat so I kind of have the single coil, blues thing covered- but I don't have a P90 and I think the deal on this Pacifica 311 is insane. I don't think you'll see it's match anytime soon. Tusk nut and trees, locking tuners, p90 and an Alnico V that splits at the bridge, maple neck, alder body- for 316 bucks? Man- that's unheard of. I think they're usually 416 or so but, this one got returned so they knocked 100 bucks off. But it's brand new- never played. I've seen them sell as high as 600 bucks new on eBay.
Awesome video. I don’t think anyone will be beating Digital John on this, though. Under $1,000 he has in the bag.
Victory owns Nick a lifetime of supplies! The guy managed to be a great salesman (I bet this video will sell many of these pedals) while being entertaining and sounding great!
Now I need to rewatch 5 times to understand everything he did because his mind was going at 1 million miles per hour. :D
Where did you find this fine gentleman!? I've never heard of him before. He is phenomenal!
Edit: The 21 fret thing is why I don't like Squires, and will never own one.
The Deluxe Strats had 22 frets but they don’t make them any more. Or did you just mean their Teles? If it’s just Teles you like, the Contemporary Teles have 22 frets.
@@markseymour8365 I was talking about their Strats and Teles. They still have the contemporary ones.
@@Krullmatic The Squier Standard Strats and Teles all came with 22 frets as well. To the best of my knowledge it's only ever been the Classic Vibe series in the 'higher-end' Squier range that had/have 21 frets and that's only because it's period correct I guess. Why they do it on the Affinity and Bullet series I don't know.
Did Ross Noble and Guthrie Govan have a fling together in the early 80s?
Nick Jennison needs no introduction to anyone who knows a thing or two about modern guitar playing. People know of him even in the middle of nowhere, which is where I dwell.
❤
An idea for a video is 'If you could only have 3 guitars' not including acoustics/classicals. What would you have?
Tele, Les Paul, P-Bass
Strat, Tele and another Strat probably.
What PRS model is that?
Good question
Original McCarty?
Russell Brand is looking well
I understand that this is an attempt at humor, but if you're on YT and not aware of Russel Brand's current relevance, it's not a good sign.
@@johnqpublic2718 oh aye, Brand is an absolute helmet for sure
@@johnqpublic2718 he’s a man of the people fighting for freedom. Just my 2 pence worth.
@@samthebarber93 That’s what he positions himself as yes. But with his money and celebrity can you really take him seriously as a ‘man of the people’? I can’t. Plus he comes across as a desperate attention seeker.
Nick jennison reminds me of the rock and roll version of Peter finch
Nick taught at my uni ;) northen invison
have to agree with Nick i always hated that about Fender guitars 🎸 I don’t understand why on a lot of their guitars they still only put the traditional 21 frets especially on a lot of the Squire Leftys I have to have 22 to 24 for me personally
Nah... I never go there... that's the dusty end of my guitar..!!!
Not every guitar brand is for everybody. If it ain't for you, it ain't for you...
I'd be curious to see the king of budget do this challenge, i.e., Dave Simpson.
Do they not make large and XL clothing with buttons in UK????
No they dont .All my big friends showing the chest, its normal in uk😅🙏
Get dave simpson to do one of these 1000 pound rig challenges
We will...
Shanghai.
Obviously the setup here is that "you've lost your gigging rig and need to replace it", but in the real world for a starter or early-on guitarist with 1k to spend I would recommend reserving at least 200 for lessons, because frankly for relative beginners it's very rarely going to be the equipment that is the limiting factor to your sound, but instead it will almost always be *YOU*. Obviously that does not apply here with Nick!
I’d assume that anybody buying a gigging rig would already be able to play, otherwise they shouldn’t be gigging.
@@markseymour8365 well done that man!
(Nick talking and talking)
Lee: And that’s the segue I was looking for
Nick: oh and now let me talk about about this!
Lol
lee looks baked
That lag with the channel switching on the catalyst makes it useless in this setup!
Straight away no good
Face *melted* jesus tone
lee just keeps looking at the pedals and wants to make money!!!!
21 frets is an absolute dealbreaker for me. If they can put 22 frets on a Les Paul in 1954, they can make it mandatory to have 22 frets in 2023.
Nick seems to be a cool guy and a good musician, but I have a flu and my head exploded during all this output
Nick is really Sore and then Lee gives Nick a Thousand Pounds , Joke there somewhere
They/them?
