Glad people enjoyed - pretty chuffed with this little 3 piece setup!!
Sounds great man
I'm American is chuffed like a woody? LOL!
5000 for Pete to choose "tube" rig (Amp,Pedals.Guitar) and 5000 for Digital John to choose rig( Modeler,Guitar, FRFR) . Who's winning? Please, make it happened.
@@Pulse2AM the rig may do that for some 🤷🏻♂️
@@Pulse2AM no, chuffed = delighted, very pleased.
The pixelated Digital John still cracks me up.
And I thought it was only me 😂
I thought it was only me too!!! “DIGITAL JOHN”!!! 😂😂😂
Me too. The dalek voice they used on the promo is hilarious!
0:17 first... the "DIGITAL JOHN" thing will NEVER get old, so please don't ever stop lol second, that digital delay joke of Lee's is so good, I love it 🤣
DIGJJJ ITAL JOOOOHHHHN.
I came for the "DIGITAL JOHN" and stayed for the content
D I G I T A L J O H N
Well, I think it's fair to say that John owned this challenge by a mile and a half. Awesome.
That was great, very pragmatic and John is so right about his three-piece setup. So many musicians (including me) still haul around 20-30kg valve amps, humongous pedalboards and their guitars, while the technology is there to go small and lightweight. Bravo, and great to have a digital counterpart on the otherwise quite traditional valve amp-focussed channel (which I love as well).
Now, for fun's sake, please please please ask Mick and Dan to do the challenge. I'd love to see them fail miserably. :P
Would love to see Digital John do a sound like video of various artists in one go
Good idea. Or he could do a "sound like" on the same artist across a bunch of modeling units.
EXCELLENT IDEA!!
Sounds fun!!
THIS! With any high quality multi-FX board and a versatile guitar you can cover a lot of tones! And it can sound very good for not much money.
"Sound like Digital John" and it's just like 20 popular guitarists
John's totally complementary to the cast here. I'm loving seeing him featured more.
When you start with a talented musician the actual instrument matters less than one would imagine! The build quality of most/many guitars is wonderful for those of us who can't say no to new gear. Fun video!
I'd love to see Dave Simpson do the challenge.
But to make it fair on everyone else, you'd have to make the limit £500 instead ;)
I'd love to see more of Dave Simpson period lol. But, I bet he'd be good at this challenge. I took the plunge and bought the Zoom G6 based on the demo of his channel, and I wish Andertons would feature it more, because I have been nothing but happy with it. Dave was worried about durability, but I can say, even though it feels "plasticy", its strong as hell. I've stomped on it with my full weight and it held up, and the sound is incredible. I am now completely digital in my gigging rig. So much better on my back than lugging around a heavy amp lol.
@@ddilley83 iv been eyeing up the Zoom myself but I also finally need a pedal board and a power supply using a wood board and a daisy chain power pack
You just know he'd puck a classic vibe strat, Boss Katana and several pedals to give him that great tone he has.
I would love a series of videos where Digital John prepares Lee for setting up a fully digital rig with MIDI controller, virtual amps etc. Non-gigging fossils like me would enjoy it.
I bought one of those Ibanez guitars for my daughter's birthday because she loved the colour, and tbh i was skeptical until i plugged it in at home, amazing value for money, good build quality, really good sounding PUs so all in all great bang for the buck, highly recommend one 🤘🔥🎸
feeling like John is my spirit animal. Does his homework, knows what he wants, understands that tone is achievable through understanding the rig over defaulting to valves and pedals. Well done my brother.
As much as I love all the traditional and vintage gear, I'm with John on the elegant simplicity of digital. With a Roland GR-55 and a decently set up Squier strat equipped with a GK-3 pickup, I have all the modeled stringed instruments, amps and effects I would ever need, plus TWO separate synth modules to cover anything a keyboardist can do... also for under $1,000 US. Headphones at home; straight into the mixer at a gig.
I loved this you guys! I think John’s great! Keep him on for sure!
its hilarious hearing Lee try to find a situation where John's rig doesnt work very well, and failing miserably.
he tried! lol it’s always great seeing some totally content with what they have, especially when it’s simple.
The unit fails or breaks. There's 1. Traditional pedals that's not so much of an issue if 1 pedal goes but this loses the lot!
Not a bad player, but he settles for really generic tones... not bad tones but nothing special either. Is that a digital thing or a youth thing... perhaps it's the modern thing.
@@markgrant1302Tone is in the hands. Betting his are better than yours
When I saw this guitar i went like WOW cause no one ever talks about that ibanez and I freaking love it. I own one for a couple of months and most of the times i forget i have an 1300$ guitar in the other room. Just amazing
I love my Valeton Gp200. I run it through a QSC cp8 monitor. Phenomenal sounding. 10 feet away in the same room is a Boss Katana, a 1973 Fender Pro reverb silverface, a 90's Deluxe reverb reissue, and an older Marshall plexi 1987 with a 4X12 of english greeenbacks....Guess what...I'm using the valeton through the QSC about 95% of the time. hahaha.
I'm trying to decide if this is Lee just being a great salesman or if he was this legitimately surprised at what he was hearing. It's clear John uses this equipment and his knowledge of it produced great sound.
I think he'll always just like the traditional analogue gear more like a lot of people do, because why not? It's fun if your able to enjoy it. But I think he would be at a stage now he wouldn't hesitate to genuinely recommend modelers to people. He's seen the tech grow and become more usable and full featured and his staff and guests use them a lot of time as well.
Cant speak for the guitar or amp but the Valeton is amazing, had one 12mths now, don't think you can beat it for the price
Man, this is why we love Digital John!!! Man, the value and flexibility of this rig is outstanding and John knew exactly what he wanted! A lot of us Gen Xers were left out of the loop when digital equipment first came onto the scene! The equipment was expensive and limited in it's abilities; many of us just couldn't get a clear view of the future. Digital was daunting for many of us, as is evidenced by the Captain's questions about sound, on-the-fly adjustments, unclipped volume, and the like! John is just so comfortable with the technology that he's actually helped me see the possibilities for a future rig that I could use and his sounds and playing are Ace!!!!! Big handful of booty got kicked here!!! Wooooooo
Finally, someone providing valuable info on a complete setup. I am considering Tech 21 Power Engine Deuce Deluxe with Valeton GP-200LT for electric, acoustic, and bass. I am a purist, nothing beats a tube. However, I am also a realist. Since I never know what I will be playing, a simple yet flexible setup is hard to argue against. Volume of course is an important factor, which you addressed in the video. Nice job!
That's amazing. I can see kids lining up to buy this combo. If I was a young aspiring musician, I'd love this kit.
Great video I love this series!

I always stop for a "DIGITAL JOHN" Video as I love hearing that lofi voice at the beginning😅
"D I G I T A L J O H N"
I was expecting the amp to be a Katana 100... nice surprise. Great video again, Thanks.
This was by far the most fun i had with this challenges
God, John is such an outstanding player...
I have both setups m, gigged last year with a katana 50 and foot controller and 1 guitar and loved it. Also dove head first I to tube amps with pedals and that's alot of fun too
This is the same as the rig I’m using I love the versatility of the valeton 200
I bought the Valeton for my daughter, and it outputs to a Headrush FRFR108. It's a pretty great steal for the price, surprised it's so affordable.
digital john and dave simpson i think would get along brilliant.i really do .both would learn so much together from each other that would take affortable gear ,mordern sounds as well as old school to a totally new level .brilliant Cap
Yeah honestly the pickups on the EastCoast sound pretty darn good.
I had no idea those Laney LFRs existed, and now I want a 212!
Once everyone's had their pick, do we need a shoot-out? Loved the vid.
John knowns exactly wthat he needs for a gig! And reasons about it, he knows what he's talking about...
For me, I'll try to setup a frfr-rigg and I hope that I will be satisfied with it!
Just ordered the Positive Grid's Cab... Hope that John will have a review on it, Captain please!!!
That East Coast sounds great with the low gain setting.
The lesson is to learn to play well and it all sounds great. I am sure he can gig with gear half the price and still sound excellent. 😊Great vid!
He was playing some basic stuff and it sounded great through modelling. Modelling meets you where you are.
Been watching you guys for more than a minute. Digital John can fukn PLAY! No doubt.
Would love to one of the bass presenters do this kind of video!
Digital John needs to do a Deep Dive into the Valeton GP200!!!
I mothballed my pedals last June and bought a Boss GX-100 multi-effects processor,... and I'm 72.
That Laney FRFR is close to $800 in the USA. With the Valeton and the Ibanez, this rig is closer to $1400 USD. All that said, great idea and a great tone in DIGTAL JOHN’S hands👍👍👍
I was going to say that still makes it less than 1000GBP but I guess my mind is running on 2015 1:1.5 exchange rates lol.
USA? NEVER HEARD OF IT
There are other affordable FRFR cabs we have here though! Headrush stuff seems really good
That Laney for real for real sounds pretty good.
I am impressed with the sound. The Valeton really delivers. In my book you get a Valeton or a Neural Quad Cortex everything in between is neither best or gives you better sounds than the Valeton. Yes they give you more sounds but how many would you need or more to the point how many will you actually use when the novelty wears off.
I think we need to see a bass version with Lee!
Oz needs to do one of these challenges!
What a deal. 120 quid? Digital John might be able to afford a few more pixels for his face next time! That or a better processor to reduce the lag a little bit.
Great video as ever guys!
More digital John please capt
Proves a lot of vital points. You don’t have to always spend every cent of budget. Johns excellent and should be given more involvement and despite the captains doubts throughout John stuck to what works. Captain can’t stop selling it’s his true passion that’s for sure. Excellent all round.
Maybe not up your alley, but I would love to see a comparison of different amp sim VST/plugins for people who either want to silently play at home or produce in a little bedroom studio!
Nice. A thing that I would like to hear in those types of vids is the sounds in a mix. Just a little recording of drums and bass, maybe another guitar (rythm) and the guitars, and gear, live, up the base.
Thanx
Another great vid. with THE digital expert
Best comment on digital stuff ever: "Its like an iPhone, you have to get used to it and then do whatever ..."🧐 ... so true 👍👍👍👍👍 out of 👍👍👍👍👍
I would love to hear DigiJohn’s take on the Line 6 Catalyst amps and/or his take on the pro’s or con’s between the Boss Katana and the Line 6 Catalyst.
You should set a challenge sound like “as many as possible” in 15 mins for all the team and as many guests as will have a go. Have everyone guess the maximum number at year end and those that get it right go in a prize draw.
The best part about all of these in my opinion is just how different every setup has been! Aside from a few pedal overlaps I don't think I've really seen any other duplicate items to the best of my recollection which us just fantastic!
I love your Videos! How can i switch between stomp and presst Mode?
With the savings, Digital John could buy Jack Duxbury and The Maltese Falcon (Chris) a Slim Chickens or a Subway! That Laney FRFR and the Valeton GP-200 sound massive!
Ben would be really good! Mick and Dan would be a tough one for them!
At "I love a 5-way" and "looks great and feels great round the back" I was thinking "where's Pete when you need him!?"
Not to worry, it descended into classic Andertons later on 🤣
I have little to no interest in the stuff John is here to sell but I really like watching him.
Came across his acoustic playing first from Taylor so it was weird at first seeing all the digital stuff.
John is a absolut great guitarist. Like his great and always clean playing. His videos are absolut great. The most i like is his tutorial for the quad cortex
That Ibanez looks great.. really thought it would be in a much higher price range. So many great beginner guitars these days - whereas I would play that Ibanez even though im not new to the guitar game
Where would John require the QC rather than the Valeton? It would be nice to learn when he would choose one or the other and why…
Good strap, decent gig bag, some cables and a couple of packs of strings and you’re good to go.
I’m currently in Japan on vacation. Surprisingly it’s much more difficult to find an Ibanez than Fender’s or Gibson’s.
Awesome “gig”. It certainly begs the question of so much pedal use.
nice rig , with the change casters for the amp or a trolley a good gig bag spare cables, strings . an extension. and still have enough for a neck tattoo.
Would you still use a separate Klon type driver pedal in this kind of setup or is that gone in favour of a patch too?
The Ibanez GIO range have always been brilliant. I bought a GRG170DX in Black 13 years ago stills sounds and looks great. Plays better than many more expensive models I've had. They are superb instruments and incredibly low prices. Lee and Pete need to get 'with it' Digital is and has been the future for a while. I have an Peavey Vypyr Modelling amp as well tones from it amazing, and the technology is just becoming better and better the Valeton GP200 gives amazing range and versatility. Nobody needs the lumping around crazy heavy amps anymore, it was backbreaking getting them in and out of the Transit. The future is small, compact and versatile. Good vid.
Grand Canyon wouldn’t be impressive small.
@@j.reveille6815 That would be a heavy lift, and very hard to fit in a Transit.
@@killianlpc ever move a Mesa mark 3 head and 4x12 on a subway . ..I did in the 80s ,almost killed or caused me to be killed several times ….BUT the sound was unrivaled GLORIOUS!!
I've used many modelers over many years; that Valeton is intriguing. While I doubt it could replace my SY-1000, it could challenge my GT-1000?
I would love to see CiCi do a Bass one.
Is there an in-between version of these videos? It's all budget this and sell your house that, all my guitars are over a grand but none cost more than 3. Amps I only have 2 but again they are a fender combo custom reverb and a marshall sv 20h with the 212 cab. Not the most expensive gear but still quality but I can't find any videos like this with artists etc picking out RIGs etc at that price point. Why?
That’s a great rig!
John’s a brilliant presenter as well as an insanely talented guitar player!
Brill review 👍
Happy andertons is still making videos
Tim Benson
Was that smooth rock fusion sound a stock patch on the 200, and if so which one is it? Cheers
The Digital rigs are all about having the ultimate in flexibility. Any Amp, Any Speaker, Any Effect. All at differing settings without having to bend down or go back to your amp to change from a plexi to a twin or a dumble. An all you can eat rig banquet.
I've got a thought for ya Cap'n. Since you can store TONS of presets in these things, how about one bank of presets for lower volume gigs and one bank set up for high volume gigs? Just switch between banks and POOF! Good to go. When is a "problem" NOT a problem?
Has anyone else got any more information about the sound of the Laney cab? Is it more on the low-end muddy side or does it have a bit of sparkle in it? I've been looking for a nice little FRFR cab for a few months now.
i would love to see Pete vs Lee on 'digital live rig for under 1000$'
Just dropped in to see if they still use the Digital John tag....0:20
not disappointed :)
I was curious what the first patch “It’s GP200” is based. First listen gave me Petrucci vibes. After some research it’s based on a Mesa Boogie Mark IV.
I don’t know how much a Headrush costs in England but all I’ve taken to a gig in the last few years is a Headrand a Telecaster and I’m never going back! And I’m 57.
Wise choice, John
Where did the gp200 amp controls disappear to, the standard bass, mid, treb, gain, presence, volume knobs?
An amazing set up and for under £1,000 what's not to like ? and John could buy a new rug for the demo room perhaps
John should buy a Dimarzio Super Distorion pickup for the bridge, Dimarzio PAF pickup for neck and some Harley benton locking tuners for 30 quid and this Ibanez would be the dream =)
Sick how much guitar you get for below 190£
Can the Valeton GP-200 be used as a studio tool ? Can you plug it into a computer as a sound card to record your own music ? If so how does it stack up against something like a Focusrite Scarlett Solo in recording quality ?
Hey Capt! What kind of stool you guys use in this studio? It's seems like a drumm stool...
helpful comment - with the remaining money get the guitar setup well (at Andertons prior to shipping)
Fun comment - obviously a custom digital John hoodie two face style graphic (half his photo and half UA-cam "digital John" cutaway)
Do you need an FRFR cab for a digital amp or can you just use a normal cab?
The Squier seems to have quite a bit of space between the loe E and A strings...
Difference is you can have a different set up with each preset. You become blessed with a device that can also morph in and out of sounds that ordinary pedals and amps cannot get even close to. Viva The Digital Revolution. I've been riding this digital train for many years now.
I'd really like to see Ariel Posen's digital rig! :D
The change should be spent on some coloured socks. White socks are for sport. I was convinced by everything else in your setup.
john is a great player
Sold me on the GP-200.
With the spare cash John could buy some longer trousers.
200 watts yes but its like a PA speaker, what is the speaker ohm?
