Just got mine done for the first time today. I was sweating it. Not because I thought it was going to be that bad. I've had more involved surgery, but I just get anxious about any hospital visit.
It wasn't fun, but it really wasn't that bad either. Follow the diet, drink the swill when you're supposed to, and it all works out, so to speak. Definitely get the prep solution as cold as you can. Have some clear soda and hard candy on hand, and beef broth is good too up to the point where you have to stop everything the night prior - usually midnight it seems. The hot broth gave me the illusion I was eating something substantial and helped stave off the hunger a little bit. If you're not a meat eater, I supposed vegetable broth so long as it's clear. They offer the option of ondansetron (nausea meds) to take as well. I think it helped. Just one little pill half an hour or so prior to drinking the stuff the evening prior and morning of.
It's well worth the peace of mind to get done.

Hi from Canada. This explanation is totally different than my experience. I had to go through the cleansing procedure. However during the actual screening I was totally awake and watched the whole procedure on a monitor and was very thankful for that. It was very enlightening to see and I didn’t have any doubts about the health of my GI tract. Am going again soon and am hoping for the same procedure.

Does having a colonostomy done, remove the fecal matter stuck to the walls I f the colon?
I know that fecal matter build up on the sides of the colon for years?

The prep drink will remove all of it.

I personally haven't had one yet being only 44 years old. I'm from Canada and here the screenings apparently start at 50. There are apparently modern methods offered her such as a FIT test which is done at home or a flexible sigmoidoscopy which just examines the lower part of the colon. Not having had the first hand experience myself, I ask myself, how bad can a traditional colonoscopy and a traditional prep really be?

Where is the anesthesiologist during the procedure? Is he/she always there to monitor and ensure the person is still breathing while the doctor is busy with the procedure?

I was scared too, have anxiety. Just had first one at 50 with upper endo and was not as bad as i had imagined. The whole experience was made better by tbw staff's kindness and understanding of my situation. So proud of myself for pushing through the anxiety, as they flund and removed 8 polyps and i have a family history of colon cancer

Colonoscopies are unpleasant at best. I’ve had two in my life the second one most recently while the first one was twenty years ago. Never another. The drugs to provide comfort during the procedure I found unnerving. I was fully awake for the first one. I do not appreciate having blocks of my memory eliminated by these nasty drugs (propofol) used to induce sedation and block memory. The entire process is barbaric.

@@sasha48189 it went smooth. Not as bad as I thought. I was worried about the procedure. I was out. The hardest part is the prep. Drinking that awful concoction and being on the toilet all day! Good luck. 👍

@@sasha48189 I was also scared to get a colonoscopy. I just had one today, and I will never fear getting another one. You are given anesthesia, and the next thing you know it's all done. My mom died of colon cancer, she suffered horribly, a colonoscopy is the better choice..
