Thank you Jeff, I hope to see you Saturday. Be safe and stay healthy and enjoy the rest of your week. Give Turbo and your other fur babies an extra cuddle and say it’s from a friend. 🌺💚🙃
I Love your tree ferns. They are georgous.
Thank you!
That's a beautiful Fern thank you for sharing have a blessed day
Thank you!
Hi Jeff! What a pretty fern! Where I grew up, we liked to go into the woods and dig up ferns and columbines for the yard, but Mom always passed on the tree ferns as she said they were very invasive. Of course you wouldn't have to worry about that keeping them in pots. Thank you so much for sharing!
Beautiful Jeff. I lost mine when I went down south for Christmas last year. In all fairness I left a lot of plants behind for my daughter to take care of and she really doesn’t do plants. 🌺💚🙃
And ferns don't handle being left alone very well. Needy plants!
The pink flowering cedar tree you bought and tossed is growing very nicely. I’m almost afraid of it now that you told me it’s a junk tree. 😱 🌺💚🙃
They are lovely trees! You can just Google if they are invasive in your area. Although that's what I did and they weren't listed as being a problem here. It wasn't until i saw some growing near a waterway in a spot where I know nobody would have planted it that I knew I had to toss mine.
I live in Zone 10. Last winter's extra-cold/extra-wet weather killed this costly dwarf tree. I will never plant this weak fern again. If you must, grow it indoors.
Dang fern has been a royal pain in my 🍑! 😆 I could never grow one of these indoors without a self-watering pot!
I've had mine about a year, so I'll add a few points here.
Mine at first got too cold one night due to a sudden Fall change, and turned mostly brown. I chopped off almost everything, leaving some green, and covered it with a clear bag. It made a full recovery after nursing under a bright light for a few months. So yes, they can bounce back if there are still some green.
I keep mine in a non-glazed concrete pot, with no drainage hole. It's planted on top of a plastic bowl at the bottom of the pot. in theory, this should give it a very slow drain with a reservoir for moisture, which seems to be working so far. I use almost half coconut chips/bark, and a lesser mix of vermiculite and potting soil.
It prefers humidity, but less so compared to other ferns. Over the Winter, I kept mine covered with a clear bag just in case it might not tolerate 40-30%.
Great plant, tough as nails! Definitely the one for those of us who love ferns, but struggle to keep them.
I think that I might try growing one again. I’m hoping since my husband brought Covid home he won’t get mad at ME if I buy another one. I really do love ferns so he can’t get mad right🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🌺💚🙃
Haha! True! You've earned it! Maybe try it in a self watering pot this time? Will make it easier when you're traveling.
I have a couple of Australian tree fern about 4 feet tall and love them of course here in Florida I can keep them out all year. Would love to get a dwarf variety like you have to try
I love them all! But man me and my last aussie tree fern had a rough relationship 😆 I'll give them a go again someday.
Nice! Where did you get them from? I live south of Atlanta and never see them!
I have to finally decide which plants are making the big move to the basement soon. I’m so afraid that I won’t be able to keep them warm enough without raising the electric bill to like $500.00 a month. I think I’ll make a small tented in area and start from there. I just have to kick Covid in the pants, I guess if your an old fart like me with health issues it takes a little longer to kick it out the door. 🌺💚🙃
It is a big decision which plants to move. I go through it every fall. That's when I decide who the keepers are and who's getting cut. If the basement floor isn't finished then adding styrofoam board insulation on the ground as a barrier between the pots and the cold cement helps a ton!
mine had terrible browning of the veins of the frond which I didnt understand at all
Hmm. That is odd. Mine have only shown the browing when the fronds were aging out or getting too much sun.
I have that as well as an indoor plant. I’m trying more water and I think it’s good but the browning and curling on the lower end of fronds still happens, humidity is often 45-65% mostly 55+-. Its standing in an east window but also really opening its fonds towards the window, im trying to get it straight against before it grows a bend trunk lol. Luckily it have basal offsets and i separated another plant from it, it still have another one in it, so trying out stuff with the smaller one. Liked the video!! Love videos about this fern! I have no issues with all other ferns i have but this one is a little bit picky haha
Mine at perplexing browning/bronzing as well but discovered my problem was use tap water! I changed it to distilled water and it is now looking better than ever
I guess don't accidentally leave them out when it gets down to 20 like with the Australian tree fern (RIP).
1. It was 28F
2. Had left it out in thar kind of cold before and it never died.
3. That fern can gfi 😆
