Please don't forget about mentioning the single people, young and old, who are having to go this road alone. There is a difference when completely alone. Thanks for the info. I appreciate you.

I remember my Aunt's and Uncles telling stories about getting a bag of used clothing. The older girls were beautiful seamstresses. They would make patterns using the clothing they wore to make clothing for the family. Old knit sweaters were unraveled and new socks on mittens, hats, smaller sweaters were made. Clothes were patched, stains camouflaged. Their stories made their hard times known but they all said they were happy.
Yes, my family all helped each other with clothes, this was in the 1960's. My mum knitted a lot of my clothes too, including school jumpers and cardigans.
@@jjjackson5183 Having some bolts of material and patterns might not be a bag idea as well as a sewing kit, buttons, & thread. I'm just thinking that this "depression" may last far longer than the last. You could even buy some nice things from thrift stores or yard sales to put back.
Both my knees are bone on bone and my doctor wants to do knee replacement surgery. Since I’m a widow and live alone and too many people are having even more problems after I decided no thanks. Instead I’m doing OMAD, lost about 25 lbs which has taken the equivalent of 75 lbs of the knees. Huge side benefit it has greatly increased my food storage to over 4 years, garden is finally going in. Canning butter today. After all, what’s life without butte? Love you all.
@@carinmatteson9286 I have pain and can't walk downstairs except for one at a time. Also old ankle injury is a factor as well as the knees. I'm a little leary of surgery right now and keep going as much as I can. Doing some gardening in totes this year. Also prepping as much as I can and cook for my family when we are all together everyweekend. Carry on!
Ah, Patara, am sitting here weeping. I so needed to hear your strong words of encouragement today. Remember, you, too, are loved by so many of us. Thanking God, our Father, everyday for you you, for your faithful witness and encouragement.
I got out of L.A> in Jan. My whole family (11 of us ) last year. We were all CA natives and had enough. My 80 year-old parents, my 3 siblings, brother-in-law, 2 nephews and 2 daughters. All gone.
Great information Patara. For myself I am debt free and started getting ready in 2019. Don't have a lot of room here, yet I'm canning and growing what I can on my patio. Just pulled up 8 lbs of sweet tator's. What a joy that was. I can't totally pull out because I'm disabled and get social security. I'm just following what God tells me to do. Love you sister. I could be your momma because I have 2 adult children your age.
I’m in the same boat. Working on being debt free. I bought a foraging book. I’m going to use up what’s in my fridge and freezer. If the grid goes down I will depend more on canned food. I want to build an outdoor barbecue With cement blocks.
I'll be 75 shortly and purchased 5.3 acres in rural Ky. 11:21 , two adult children. On a low SSI. Out of debt, a large garden started late. Potatoes doing great, purple pole beans, too many gourds that I thought were squash! And more. I started collecting long-term meat, veggies, and everything i could get my hands on. I started pressure cooking meat, on and on . . You could be my twin.
Having spent 25+ years working in public schools, I totally agree with you, Patera on getting kids out of the system. It's a sad day when our children can't be safe (from the curriculum, the staff, etc).
Say it again. Warn us. Repeat it. Until we get it down. And get it right. This world is a mess. Thanks for your channel. Enjoy your meal tonight with your Nana and mom.
I keep canning meats in 8 ounce jars for rationing. We do intermittent fasting for health reasons. Healing our bodies. It also means we eat twice a day instead of 3 times.
Girl, this one hit me like a ton of bricks. This is how my mind has been set for almost 3 years now ever since God moved in my heart and told me to “prepare now!” My family thinks I’m crazy but I’m steadfast, my son wants to go back to public school but my heart is telling me NO! he can just be angry with me I guess, that’s what mammas do! We make the best decision we possibly can for our family and boy has God been asking me to separate myself from others.. especially people who aren’t like minded, including blood relatives.. people I love dearly! But I know he has a plan and a reason. Hearing your words just reminds me to keep on the track he’s laid for me. Thank you! And God keep you and bless you and yours!
Same with me about the prep and separation. This is much needed confirmation! Sometimes I feel like Elijah; the only one left! Bless you! (Edwin’s wife)
Excellent advice! I live alone so being frugal with food is fairly easy for me. When I do cook I eat it for consecutive meals until it is gone so it doesn't go bad. That might look like mac and cheese for breakfast if necessary! My tiny apartment patio has grow bags with veggies in them and herbs as well. No I can't live off of them but it is rather a supplement. I homeschooled my youngest son for several years and found it to be the most satisfying job I ever had! Watching my son grow, learn to read (especially when the school system couldn't teach him that skill), excel in math, etc. was so rewarding. Our country is not going to get better but will progressively get worse. I am not a doomer but do face reality. Learn now before it is too late.
I agree with you on the schools. My grandson failed kindergarten and 1st grade going to public school, his mom had moved them out of state at the time. They moved back next door to me and over the summer I worked with him. He has made all A's for the past 2 years since that summer session. The schools are not taking time to teach our children, we have to do it.
If you can try sprouting different seeds or growing microgreens. Broccoli sprouts for example are much more nutritious than broccoli. You get tons of nutrition and don't need a lot of space😊
I have done the small left over soap thing for years. I also put a little water in the shampoo bottle when it's on half. I have a huge bucket of change going. People throw away change in Florida parking lots. Fools. I pick it up and throw in the huge pickle jar.👍 Another video full of wisdom.👍🙏💕
Thank you so much Patara. You are uniting us Christians. I live in Utah. We have seen our conservative Salt Lake city, Utah go from conservative to liberal. It took about 20 years. I love how you always remind us to pray. Thank you for everything. You are such a great role model. These podcasts take time and sacrifice.
I remember very hard times as a child. We ate a lot of beans and rice in the early 70s. My dad was in a bad explosion hospitalized for over a year, my mom was going to school to be a R.N. We survived by the grace of God. The Holy Spirit spoke to me while Obama was president and told me to start preparing for what's coming. I'm so grateful for it. 🙏
Thank you for this reminder! I grew up from the age of 8 on with my grandma living with us after my granddad passed. She taught me SO SO much as I was growing up on how to stretch everything. She would reuse plastic Ziploc bags if nothing messy was held in them she would reuse aluminum for the same way… She would fold it up and stick it back up in the cabinet. At first I thought this was so silly but as I got older I realized how ingenious it was. She would show me how to hang everything after washing it to save the life of the dryer… only drying things like towels and bedding. She talked about the depression and how she learned to save and make do. She even wanna talk about when you’re running errands take the time to map out where you have to go so you’re not burning up gas. But most importantly she taught me to put Jesus 1st over everything and everybody and to read His word and remember prayer is one if not the most important gift our Heavenly Father gave us. To build a personal relationship with Jesus and forget all the religion. Those are just a few things of the things she taught me. I will forever be grateful for the time I had with her in her love and wisdom. She lived to 95 and was sharp as a tack (Old southern saying) 😂 So TJIS video just reminded me of her and the wealth the worst of all learn from her. We are living out the book of Revelation right now in real time… let’s all finish this race and keep the faith…and not allow the enemy to distract us. Just found your channel today and I’m very thankful 😊
My 84 year old dad still talks about the potato cakes his mom made from leftover mashed potatoes and corn meal mush loaf which they sliced and fried for breakfast.
My daughter completed high school online. I worked and found this option worked best for us. We chose the curriculum and it worked beautifully. She decided to continue her college education online. She recently graduated and we couldn't be happier for her and the path she took. Side note...no vaccine mandate for her since she was off campus.
Make sure to pick up vitamins when food gets limited or rationed. Your body still needs nutrition. Also, pick up powdered unflavored protein. It can be added into mashed potatoes, soups, gravy, stews, yogurt, shakes etc... body needs protein. Don't forget about foods for your pets as well.
Living alone, when I make up a batch of chili, soup, goulash, etc, most of it goes into the freezer for later days. Instead of using the 16 oz containers I've collected for that, I've switched to 12 oz containers. No hardship, less waste, and it stretches it that much further. If it seems to be not quite enough, a piece of bread or a hunk of cheese can fill the gap.
I ordered 18 food items to pick up at WalMart today. I got an email notice that 17 of them are out of stock. These are all foods that I use regularly. Im not making the trip for 1 item. It is not unusual for them to be out of 1-2 things but this is a sign of things coming soon. Are we having fun yet?
I bought lentils at the Dollar Tree and I sprout them in quart jars and feed them to my chickens once a week. It's a nice treat for them, and a tablespoon of lentils will sprout to a good amount.
I remember my Mom and dad's faces during rough times: Kennedy's assignations, King and many local events. I look in a mirror now and I see that same expression. Great day everyone 👍
Two of my Granny’s most treasured possessions were her Bible and her cook book with hand-written family recipes. Have hard copies of your favorite recipes!
My grandma made 12 good sized hamburgers with 1 # of hamburger, used veg from garden for filler, oatmeal, crackers, eggs, and dried bread and spices. Looked good and tasted great.
When I was married my mother gave me some recipes. One of them said “ making something out of nothing.” She wrote down different ways to use whatever you happen to have on hand. Maybe for Mother’s Day you can give something like this as a gift to your children❤. I appreciated it so much.
I collect pre-WWII cookbooks, with a few exceptions.i have a 1955 Joy of Cooking cookbook, i have my mother in laws cookbooks(she was born in 1912) and i am looking for Chinese, Korean and Japanese cookbooks(in .english, of course). The Asians know how to stretch a dollar. I also have the Tightwad Gazette! Its great!
Made a large pot of chili today. Enough for about 5 meals. I added 3 extra cans of beans to stretch the pot. I will add these meals to my freezer. Last week a large pot of garbage soup ( vegetable soup ) using all those odds and ends in the refrigerator and freezer. For broth I made broth with celery, garlic, ends and onion skins. Just add a few herbs I.e. parsley etc. stay safe.
@@MarsocRaider in my case if that happens I will canning Dehydrating or curing. I am already pulling out 4 whole chickens from freezer to debone and can. Will make bone broth and can that too
I for one would like you to do longer videos. I just carry my phone around with me and prop it up as I do housework and listen to you talk. It's no different than listening to a program on the TV or radio, but you make more sense. Rationing is voluntary now, but will be mandatory in the future. You have a lot of good, practical ideas. Thanks for taking the time to share your time with us. 🙏❤
We bought a hobby farm in 2010 as we saw the writing on the wall well before then. The past years I’ve study wild edibles, organic gardening, animal husbandry, natural medicine and more. We had the privilege of homeschooling our children. We bought our home with a private well and one that is heated solely on wood. We’re up north, in Wisconsin. We cook with propane but I have practice a lot over open fire and built solar ovens. If any one can find a copy called DARE TO PREPARE buy it! It covers almost all your bases.
take your little bars of soap and place them in a old onion bag and hang it by the outside faucet. great way to wash hands outside.. also allow the little bars of soap to dry and grade them up and use them to wash your clothes,
I have been doing Intermittent Fasting for about 10 years now, even before it was "popular". The total of my 3 meals would fit on 1 dinner plate. We really do not need more food than that. I have energy, stamina, and endurance. Praise God! Self-discipline, appreciation for God's provisions, alert awareness of God's presence, and a constant active personal relationship with God are crucial in our daily living. Thank You for your honesty and wholesomeness! God Bless You and your Family Patara!
I'm studying herbalism right now. Bought hard books, not electronic. Got my daughter interested in gardening the year after years of trying. She's seeing the mess we are in, finally. Making incrementally smaller portions to get the hubby used to less without feeling it so much.
@@ashtorfarm8866 very much so. It was funny the first time I saw a purple dead nettle when I was digging to plant my first comfrey plant. I got so excited!
They call it “Intermittent Fasting “. It’s healthy. The hardest part is going through the sugar withdrawal. We have no idea how much sugar is in our food (aside from vegetables).
Only thing about already living this way is that where do I go from already being frugal, already not wasting, already stretching meals? It's a tough row to how but the women are tasked with making it work. I always knew we'd have to return to the way our grandparents lived. Getting it done everyday. Thank you Patara.
Try to make a buddy friend, who you can contribute goods with and split the meals. Maybe you have the potatoes and she has or he has beans. Beans over baked potatoes are a favorite dish I make for myself when hubby is gone out for work trips.
Yes! I have been saying for years and telling my daughter, we are going to be going back to the way things were in our grandparents and great grandparents day. Its the only way we will survive whats coming
I believe in books, have for years. I’m 70. Always been frugal. Broth, rice, veggies with a piece of homemade bread (your recipe😊) makes a great, inexpensive meal, or two. A little bacon grease for flavor is good too.
My mom used to cut bacon into tiny pieces, brown it and then use it and the grease to flavor soups and gravies. I love it when I can find a package of bacon ends and pieces at the store at a great price and grab them up. I then use them for flavoring, same as my mom used to.
I do feel we will have electric grid shut down eventually so don't forget that is a possibility too. Don't depend upon freezing. Remember old time foods that don't need freezing/refrigeration.
There is no way to verify this information, but it is being passed around that there is a possible grid down situation in the latter part of this year. They are saying possibly September.
We save jars from different items that we buy and use them to store herbs and dried goods. I agree with you. I went shopping yesterday the prices are rising daily!
A year ago my household would never eat Leftovers. I told them they had be Changing their ways on this because it will be served until it's eatten. Yes I started cutting back the amount I cooked . it took awhile but we are all doing better. When I start to get overwhelmed with the world I have started working on vacation bible school projects and of course prayer!
My sister and I ordered the Tightwad Gazette for our dad years ago (when we were in school) when it was a NEWSLETTER! 😄 He is so frugal. We were basically poking fun at him, but he saved them ALL! He still uses the info in them. And of course, we appreciate his frugality now that we are grown ups 😂
I have both books she put out of the Tightwad Gazette since they came out. Love them. Have been canning and freezing since I was a child. My grandmother and mother and farm lady next door to us taught me so much especially a year after I was married when my husband lost his job and we had just had our first child. It is engrained in our family.
Good warning, Patara. I spent the day alone in an Appalachian forest patching line fence in preparation for another load of bawling calves. I had a nice breakfast of French toast made with my wife's homemade wheat bread and a couple of homegrown eggs. (We buy hard winter and/or spring wheat in 50-pound bags. We then vacuum seal it in 1-gallon bags and stow it away like we do many other staples. My wife's Vitamix has worked like a charm for 45 years and she's an expert bread maker.) I decided to skip lunch and drink a lot of water instead whenever I felt hungry. When I came in this evening, I was ready for meal number #2 and enjoyed a slice of grilled pork tenderloin, a dozen brussel sprouts, and a large spoonful of dressing with gravy. That's all I needed. If a guy who works outdoors all day can get by on two meals instead of three, then most anybody can. In coming days, a score of portly folks are gonna learn a hard lesson about sustenance eating as opposed to pleasure consumption alone. Better start training one's eating habits now.
All that rationing is also life extension in more ways than one since most people eat too much anyway. Lean and fit could go a long way in tough times! Thanks Patara❤
I take the empty tooth past tube and cut it in half, and scoop out the remainder. I usually get 3 to 4 more uses out of it. I do the same for the pain cream used for my husband's back.
Those little bits of soap can be put in a small net bag and used like that. The suds will come through. There are folks who knit them, you can use cheese cloth sewn into one, or even one of those wedding/shower favor bags might work. My husband just threw out a shirt with holes in it. I got it out and will be cutting it up to tie up plants in the garden this year. Waste nothing, use and reuse as much as possible. Not only saves money, but it's better for the earth!
I "won" a bag of hideously-coloured acrylic knitting yarn (a kind of neon, slightly greenish yellow). I did try a little bit of crochet with it, but I'm not into crochet or knitting much. It's been reserved to use to tie up plants in the garden and it will probably, sadly, last for years and years ...
Our son did 2 years of public school. We home schooled and then private schools. He is now a supervisor at the state and has an hvac company on the side. I wonder if he would have turned out the same way with just public schools.
I’ve been beefing up our home library with how-to books. I’m blessed to have several from my parents also. One thing I’d suggest to add, if you can, are pre-1950/60 history books and textbooks.
Older than that if you can get them. In Orwellian fashion, they've literally re-written history to suit their purposes and banned anything they thought would perpetuate the true history (eg the Irish Gaelic, Scots Gaelic and Welsh in the UK).
@ameliagfawkes 512, Welsh is still promoted here in Wales, it’s a beautiful language, I don’t speak it myself but had a 90+ year old trying to teach me this week.
Hmmm, quickening. Great description. Nearly in overload with all the puzzle pieces in play. My calling is as a teacher. I’m getting ready to expand from teaching prepping for adults to curricula for children
Thank you for being a teacher, imparting your knowledge to the next generation. Not just the 3 R's, but also life skills. Children are like sponges, they absorb everything.
We are trying not to waste anything. Even the ends of broccoli and asparagus get dehydrated so we can put it other meals. If you put the soap ends in a knee high stocking and hang it in the shower you can use it like a regular bar of soap and you don’t waste anything.
I made a cream of asparagus soup from the bottom of the stalks and it was outstanding! Yes, they are tough and fibrous but are also full of flavor. An hour simmering in vegetable broth and a whirl through a food mill is all it takes to make delicious soup. That probably goes for a lot of things😄
We are in our 60s and do intermit fasting, eating 1 to 2 times a day. We save sooooo much on our food bill. We feel better and are not hungry. Have always kept our pantries full and well stocked with at least 2 yrs of food and life supplies. Has helped us stay ahead with all that has been going on in the last 10 years and especially last 2 to 3 years.
Things most definitely have gotten worse even from about a week ago. You’re absolutely correct Patara!!!! People, it’s going to keep on getting worse and worse. This government has completely destroyed the USA in all areas!!!! Pray and pray and pray and when you think about ending the prayer keep praying you can do it silently as you’re doing other stuff. You can pause…. But keep praying. Keep preparing. Keep saving. Keep moving forward it’ll be a bit slower but keep on keepin on!!! Much love
Great video! Quickening - definitely. Sunday evenings we often make a frittata. We scramble eggs and add leftovers from the refrigerator. Each time it is different. We have added a number of different items, including mashed potatoes, broccoli, onion, green pepper, etc. Have a great weekend!
Sadly I am the only prepper and Christian in my family. I have been warning for years. During the timedown worldwide...I warned with urgency. Prepare & stock up. All I am getting is scoffing. Sent them a few choice videos over the years to show them what is going on....they are not listening. I am praying for tgem though fervently and just have to trust the Lord to deliver them out of darkness and their foolishness. For me I am doing little and often with prepping. I try do something each day to prepare. Thank you for your video....its a lonely road sometimes.
Just got my kids curriculum Thursday! Thanks for the kick in the pants I needed to talk to my husband about it. He was a lot more open to it than I thought he would be. Next year (we already paid off tuition for the year) all my babies will be home.
I've been writing down any new recipes I find.. I always think it's important to learn how to make a sourdough starter so we can make bread without yeast! I'm learning how to make fry bread..I never stop learning
Appalachian homestead with patatra, am so 😢 am.starting to give up on everything. You are a very positive person and that has helped me theselast 3 years... thank you so much for being here for many of us..
I started several months ago: splitting 1 bottle of household cleaner among 3 and watering it down. I realized the smell and strength works just as well.
I’m making “Orange Glory” cleaner. I filled a mason jar with orange peels and vinegar. I’ll let it “brew” for a month or so. It already smells wonderful!!
Great video Patera. Keep saying these things over and over cause we all need to hear it. My daughter and I were just having this conversation a little while ago. We started freezer meals this year and that is working great. Now we are starting to can and fill our pantries with better food. Waste not, Want not! I was explaining to my son that I added extra beans, tomato and a can or corn to the chili I just made to make it go further. Stretch the meat as far as you can!
I'm thinking that as mens clothing wears out and we're unable to procure more, there's a possibility that the Feileadh Mòr ( great kilt ) might be reintroduced as an incredibly versatile clothing option. They're pretty awesome , especially if made from canvas tarp. And don't forget to stock up on work boots, because they don't last forever and you don't want to go barefoot in the winter.
@@happycook6737 kilts are extremely comfortable in the summer and surprisingly tolerable in the dead of winter. I live on a homestead and wear mine year round.
My boys love their belted plaid lol. I had a traditional Scottish wedding and bought wool for the kilts, my a couple of my son's wore them whenever they could, even in the summer.
I winter sowed 53 herbs and am enrolled in a 3 yr herbalism course as they are now at 150 drs suddenly gone. Hospitals are a mess. I encourage everyone to learn natural medicine. Blessings, ❤️🇨🇦
I've been rationing and eating leftovers for a couple of years now. I fast because I'm also on keto for 6 years now. I've lost 140lbs. I'm trying to get my husband on board. I walk daily. Today was a short 3 mile day. Take care of yourself folks. Walking does a body good.
I loved your grandmother's frugal advice of freezing the small bits of leftovers to make a soup or stew. Perfect way to be sure you use it all. Thanks!
If you take a look at frozen fruits and vegetables lately, they’re pretty cheap. I recommend getting some and dehydrating it. If you don’t have a dehydrator, you can put it on your oven on the lowest setting and dry that fruit and vegetable. Plus kids love helping do that. And Patera you’re awesome!
I've done the frozen veg, dehydrated and it works fantastic! Add it to soups and stews or even just broth and beans. A fantastic shelf stable option!!!
We freeze dry left overs. We strain & save bacon grease. We repurpose clean & save ziplock bags. We have a box in a closet for cool whip tubs containers, jars etc to save. We make chili in a huge stock pot 1.5 lbs of ground beef 4 cans diced tomatoes with chilis 1.5 lbs pinto beans, beef stock. It make everything stretch a lot farther! We repurpose leftovers into soup, casseroles, quiches etc. Being prepared helps calm a worried troubled mind.
I have watched many channels over the past few years but so many of them ended up being frauds or sell outs. You and Jeremiah Babe are the only two I have continued with
My partner is blessed in that financially he is incredibly well off. 1.5 years ago he started withdrawing money from the bank and building societies...including some over seas accounts. He is keeping enough in his accounts for bills and he has carried on with his investments...but a large portion of his money is in a safe place. His family are doing the same thing.
Write down or print off all ur contacts (mailing addresses, phone numbers, etc). Don't rely solely on internet or ur phone for info u may need. I just bought an updated U.S. Road atlas. Google maps may not always be available.
I bought some gum for when I get the munchies between meals it really helps minimize some of unpleasantness of being hungry or thinking you are hungry.
Watching from Scotland. Fully agree with you Patara. We’re stretching food, clothing, gifts are often re-gifted, or we split up soap sets to keep using. Hard- back books cos I’m old fashioned anyway. Thank you for your time and info!
Walking the talk is the most important thing we can do for our childlen. Besides, you ll be surprised as to who else is watching. Our sphere if inflzence is way bigger then we know. Blessings from Switzerland to wherever you are!
Running a second year without a raise (mental health care worker) and hearing bonuses are questionable. After 12 years with this job and raising 3 on my own, I'm interviewing for a second job and starting several side hustles moving forward. My hint is, my husband and I get a rotisserie chicken once a month, eat part with homemade bread and a side, next, the breast is stir fried with veggies and rice, then I pick off what I can and make a pasta salad, then I boil it down and make a huge pot of chicken whatever soup. 1 chicken and about 7-10 meals for the 2 of us ❤
We have several book shelves we call the SHTF shelves. They cover gardening, beekeeping, keeping and home vet skills for poultry, recycling, home and tool maintenance, herbal medicine, economic cooking, seed saving, soap making, using our smoker for meat preserving, vegetable and fruit preserving, emergency first aid, basic repairing/sewing skills, pressure canning, foraging here in Australia, emergency energy sources and home brewing etc. Skills we already use on our small acreage homestead. Most picked up for a dollar or two in second hand stores over many years so a cheap investment long term. Well done Patara for raising this on your video.Knowledge is power. Why "SHTF books"?: because they cant be censored, our eyes and reading still work in a grid failure/shut down. Plus quite a few different translations and copies of The Bible, again free or second hand ,enough to share. Wonderful advice Patara.
I am a little older and was raised by my grandparents. I can remember the "dust bowl" days of stretching. We reused and recycled long before it was "popular". Thanks for reminding us. We have been acquiring hard books for several years, including a bunch of fiction books for when there is no TV/movies.
Hubby and I have been eating 2 meals a day for a long time. He has a small snack before bedtime but I keep fasting til breakfast. It's not difficult and really stretches the groceries!
I save all small bars of soap in a container, it adds up fast. A little water added helps it dissolve for multiple uses. I have to ask for prayers please. Had stomach issues since January 2, finally getting to see a dr on Tuesday. All prayers would be greatly appreciated . Love you all!
Always great advice here 😊🧡🥕🥕..stay vigilant gals!! Blessings to all who watch this lovely channel🙏✨️🧡 Thank you Patara..you are a continual inspiration.
When I hem jeans, which is always, I save the remnants to use when they need patches. My late sainted grandmother taught me to make-do, and to make it all from 'scratch', plus open your table and your home to those who need a blessing. "What's one more potato in the pot?" was a phrase she said often when someone showed up.
This is showing my age but I got the tightwad gazette newsletter when she was mailing it out every month back in the early 90s I believe. I also contributed to her newsletter.
SO many words of wisdom Patara!! Thank you!! I am actively quitting alcohol abuse right now (I'm WAY better than I was 1 year ago but still indulging 1-2x per week, it's a struggle) for the purpose of losing weight (I'm a 56 year old menopausal woman and my body isn't functioning the way it did in my '40's) and for rationing. I am intermittent fasting and also cutting down to 2 meals per day. And got a free wood chip drop delivery 1 month ago hauling wheelbarrows full to get that exercise in, and for the purpose of creating compost for next year (that Black Kow is SOOOOOO expensive!) I watched a documentary years ago I think it was called "The cheapest man in the world". He would cut open the "empty" tube of toothpaste and get another few brushings out of that. I just recently learned to darn socks because I have compression hose that have a teeny tiny hole that drives me crazy so I want to continue to use them. I re-use my dehumidifier water in the garden or purify in the Berkey. I still have all of my grown daughter's notebooks that are half written in to use for paper (I try to write letters instead of texting and email). If I was able to go back in time, I would definitely home school my girls.
I am so glad to have found you. Your wisdom rings out from the Depression era of my parents. I am 59 now and see the need to do all the things you suggest. I too am a prepper and am so glad I have started to prepare for the worst. I am scared for everybody who hasn't started to prepare for what's to come.
I've been saving soaps for a long time... Paper towels are a big source of waste...if it's used to dry a clean dish or hands, I save it to wipe up spills or other cleaning... Thanks Patara 🤗❤️
I found a pkg of 50 squares of terry cloth at Home Depot. I hardly use paper towels any more. I grab a square of terry cloth. I don't use the dishwasher. Those terry cloth squares are stored in there. I also cut up old towels.
As a single mom in the 80's and into the 90s I have been doing all these things all my life. If you are tossing something out first think if there is another use for it, chances are you will figure out a way to use it. Very little goes into the trash at our house and yes I am proud of that! I have a old coffee can that I put unusable scraps in like when I do dishes and a bit of food was in stuck to the bottom of the pan, that goes out into the critter pile for the wild animals, nothing gets wasted here!

I bought these books when they first were published. Years later I bought a set for my daughter-in-law!

My mother told stories of there family saving flour sacks until they enough to make dresses during the depression
@@alancarter4270 My Grandmas Family made their underwear out of potato sacks.
I remember darning socks. Today that means a whole different definition. Just like tranny.

I want to build an outdoor barbecue

I eat two meals a day and have done this for years.
Mine want to go back too but stay strong my friend ,we do better at home

I have both books she put out of the Tightwad Gazette since they came out. Love them. Have been canning and freezing since I was a child. My grandmother and mother and farm lady next door to us taught me so much especially a year after I was married when my husband lost his job and we had just had our first child. It is engrained in our family.
It came out in three volumes, then it was published as a compilation of all three.
My wife's Vitamix has worked like a charm for 45 years and she's an expert bread maker.)
I decided to skip lunch and drink a lot of water instead whenever I felt hungry.
How do you grind your spring wheat?

So true, salvage and reuse all you can.
@Amelia G Fawkes Well, at the very least, it'll be easy to spot when it comes time to cut the plants down. 😊
@Joyce Nagy Amen!

I do this to! I use my spatulas a lot for getting every bit of food out of bowls, containers, etc.
Just got my kids curriculum Thursday! Thanks for the kick in the pants I needed to talk to my husband about it. He was a lot more open to it than I thought he would be. Next year (we already paid off tuition for the year) all my babies will be home.
Been homeschooling my kids for 3 years. Best decision I ever made.
I've been writing down any new recipes I find.. I always think it's important to learn how to make a sourdough starter so we can make bread without yeast! I'm learning how to make fry bread..I never stop learning
The Kneady Homesteader just did a series of videos on sourdough starter.
Appalachian homestead with patatra, am so 😢 am.starting to give up on everything. You are a very positive person and that has helped me theselast 3 years... thank you so much for being here for many of us..

Hang in there, we are all in this together. Stay together now!
@@ninnymuggins5159 thank you. So very much..

I started several months ago: splitting 1 bottle of household cleaner among 3 and watering it down. I realized the smell and strength works just as well.
Vinegar & Baking Soda
I’m making “Orange Glory” cleaner. I filled a mason jar with orange peels and vinegar. I’ll let it “brew” for a month or so. It already smells wonderful!!
No one will make it alone,we need to come together and build prepper communities!

I use pasta in the bottom of my bowl and put the chili on top that stretches that even further.
Have you tried to put a can of 🥩 beef stew to the chili? Or a can of veggies mixed to chicken 🐓 noodle soup.
Kilts are cooler in the summer than shorts. Men in India and Thailand wear skirts usually out of plaid fabric like madras plaid.
You need to know how the Indians lived on the land. They just make leather from animal skins and made boots from scratch
@@happycook6737 thats where Madras came from!
I winter sowed 53 herbs and am enrolled in a 3 yr herbalism course as they are now at 150 drs suddenly gone. Hospitals are a mess. I encourage everyone to learn natural medicine. Blessings, ❤️🇨🇦
Is the course online ?
Since I heard you mention his channel, I’ve been there, thanks girl!
Hey! What’s the name of his channel?
Jeremiah Babe
I've been rationing and eating leftovers for a couple of years now. I fast because I'm also on keto for 6 years now. I've lost 140lbs. I'm trying to get my husband on board. I walk daily. Today was a short 3 mile day. Take care of yourself folks. Walking does a body good.
I loved your grandmother's frugal advice of freezing the small bits of leftovers to make a soup or stew. Perfect way to be sure you use it all. Thanks!
I am 60 and listened to my Grandma and her sisters! Perfect timing for the topic thank you Patara …rice pudding ❤
Yep and many instapot shave a dehydrator feature. I actually burned mine out and instapot company sent me a new one.
I've done the frozen veg, dehydrated and it works fantastic! Add it to soups and stews or even just broth and beans. A fantastic shelf stable option!!!
Howdy, y'all! 🤠
I'm a newbie, I just wanted to say, “Thank you!” Have a great day!😃
We freeze dry left overs.
911 dispatcher here. You would be surprised at the people who can't give relatives phone numbers. They have to go back into their phones and look.
You always brighten my day, Patara! You always help & encourage us to do more & do it better! Thank you!
Sausage- mRNA?
Hubby and I have been eating 2 meals a day for a long time. He has a small snack before bedtime but I keep fasting til breakfast. It's not difficult and really stretches the groceries!
I have used the term "quickening" just last week. It is almost time. Love this channel!
I save all small bars of soap in a container, it adds up fast. A little water added helps it dissolve for multiple uses. I have to ask for prayers please. Had stomach issues since January 2, finally getting to see a dr on Tuesday. All prayers would be greatly appreciated . Love you all!
Praying for you Heather❤️🙏❤️.
Yes as a young military wife and mother it really taught me how to thrive on less.
I cut up old t-shirts for paper towels and tp. My daughter just bought reusable pads for herself.
@@dottieholmes1623 There's also menstrual cups... 👍
@@KathysTube I will let my daughter know, she prefers pads but my granddaughter uses tampons so that would work for her. Thanks.
Same here, hardly any trash from my house. Catfood cans is a constant, a few wrappers unless its compostable
