I think this is a metaphor for simply, rain. Majority of the animation is the fish-like creature chasing around the kid and the kid running frantically. When it rains, we try as much as possible to stay away from the rain (even if it means running). The splashing also alludes to this being a representation of rain. There comes a point where the kid is amidst hanging octopus-like things and we have some moments where in rain can make things seem distorted or just plain out see weird things. Then the kid and the fish creature make it to the top of the tower and admire the view of the clear sky and enjoy the rain puddles, just like what happens after it rains, hence, the name of the animation.
I'd really love to watch a movie done by them, I just love their art style so much..
+DominiqueCalique It actually reminds me a lot of both Genius Party (and GP Beyond) and animatorexpo. Search em out, they're cool
DominiqueCalique me to 😊
I know it’s been more than a decade but wow, this animation is really amazing
Like, when you are trying to find someone, but you get something that were not looking for. At the first it will be annoying and you 'll be trying to scape from it, but at the end of the day... is good.
Maaaan this is like a video game
Chasing the kid like crazy? Might almost say he's... Going bananas. 😎
Rhiix no
I come to watch this masterpiece sometimes and I have never tilt that this animation and the comments were made years ago?? Wow
It’s nice to find someone else who does this lmaoo
I love the art and style done by gobelins, I'd love to one day see either a game or movie made by them :)
I’m so amazed. Just. Omg. The flow and movement of the whole thing. The new fantasy world and physics that just doesn’t make sense. Astounding. Amazing.
This is a terrible exemple of magnificence ! The Gobelin and actualy their students are such amazing! This story is lovely and awsome!
Although I have no idea what this means, it's so fun to watch. This is the power of animation. After >10 years I still remember it.
this is my favorite so far! i love the town and all of the bridges this is amazing
This is awesome. Something I would expect from Studio Ghibli.
I want to see this old 2d-ish animation again. (although with a little help of 3d).
Magnifique.... Comme quoi, les français sont très bon dans le cinéma d'animations.
I would love to visit their world! 😙
C'est mignon, absolument! Je suis heureuse que j'ai trouve ce petit film! Maintenant, je veux ce poisson. Il est adorable!
Definitely one of my favorite short films now!
Ah naan, il fait peur °^°
This gives off a massive Ghibli vibe. And that's a massive compliment.
The landscapes are incredible. Job well done.
If this turned into a series I would watch it.
This is honestly the most Studio Ghibli short I’ve ever been recommended from Disney, and that’s pretty ironic.
I wish this was a full-length movie.
hmmm, i agree. a video game where you can travel different worlds through puddles of water. and the big fish is your companion.
Yeah it's one of my fav. movies of all time. :)
Très beau et mignon court-métrage ! Hâte de voir ce que vous allez faire par la suite ! :)
so whimsical so lovely and loved the miyazaki references everywhere
I love this forever. My favourite~~~!
شف انا ماحب مالك حزن بس المقطع هذا للي يصممون ثري دي ويرسمون يعتبر تحفه فنيه انا اشوف انه ابداااااااع بصراحة
An ocean in every puddle. Genius.
Why doesn't this have more views??
It's amazing! :D
incredible animation!! incredible backgrounds!!! incredible ideas!!! just freaking brilliant
This video didn't even try to make me like it, but did make me want to watch it. Amazing video!!!
C'est adorable!
Great work! Beautiful things happening here... things that can only be in animation. Excellent concept and execution.
Oh my good, this is like the perfect hybrid between Ghibli, Zelda, Bastion, One Piece and Braid. Please get involved with a major video game company. You will have all my money.
This was beautiful and wonderful!
This is AWSOME!!
No way! C' est absolutement magnifique! J' aimerais l' avoir sur Bluray...
this short is featured in Beyond: Two Souls! nice job guys!
The elaborate backgrounds and simplistic character design gives off a more Studio 4c vibe to me. One of their films is "Tekkonkinkreet".
The art style is AMAZING. :D
Proud to say that I saw this waaay before Beyond Two Souls! Hahaha I was so happy when I saw it!
just as it should be, not a single dislike. ♥
feels like it should be made into a game
Mon dieu un des meilleur film animer que jai vue ta du talent :)
Definitely one of the more dynamic pieces.
...Am I the only one who thinks the creature is thinking with portals?
Love dat blue creature
god. bless. gobelin.
Love the art!
This is just pure awesomeness, I love it! :)
So cute!
This was featured in Beyond: Two Souls.
there should be a movie of this!
very trippy =D kept grinnin the whole time X3
Absolutely amazing. :)
How amazing!
pas mal du tout l'idée des poissons dans les flaques!
Après la pluie .. le beau Temp :)
0:36 sweet lord! at first I thought it was Bubbie from the Flapjack. xD
Beautifully done animation, though I haven't a clue as to what was going on other than a chase for a banana. Seems like a very unstable dimensional world.
far out!!! i could definitely see this becoming a video game.
Yep, completely. The French embrace Eastern animation - not just as a marketing tool for toys. They use the Japanese fast-paced action directing, whilst embracing the whimsy of thier characters too. In the UK it's often looked down upon in the animation industry.
Reeaaallly cool, made me think of portal for a bit
Lindo bichi.ganote.😄
Love the Gamelan music.
Reminded me far more of Tekkonkinkreet also. Everyone just goes for Ghibli for some reason, but to be honest this looks nothing like their work/style.
Silvershock Nicktail OMG YESSS! I really love the style of tekkonkinkreet, even the genre is crime & dark. Hopefully can watch more of animation style like this 💛
The artstyle also reminds me of Dead Leaves.
Amazing!
Amazing
Now that was awesome
this is top notch
excellent!!!!!
Simply amazingly surprising
I immediately thought of that movie when I saw this.
better than anything japan can ever produce nowadays.
amazing
Enchanting! :)
I get that feeling, too.
Why Are We Not Funding This?
beautiful
Magnifique! 8D
Dyarard sssss
So fun!!
waooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo i love son much¡¡¡
@westeightyone also: you can see there's a 'cut' when the camera passes behind the building, because there's no moment where you can see the wall (the backside of the building) itself. You can only see that you go past it with the camera. -then cut- and leave the dark area with the camera. There's an obvious but smooth cut in there.
so this kid is fishing into a portal that lead to another dimension? NICE
This reminds me of this episode from "Rocko's Modern Life", where Rocko is fishing with his friends and trying to find a suitable bait to substitute worms. When they tried using cheese, along comes this GIANT SQUID who asks "May I have some cheeeese?"
This kinda reminds me on Tekkonkinkreet ;)

He loves him some bananas. Such an interesting little world.
This was made and distributed back in 2008? It looks way ahead of its time.
@WalrusDance The kid is trying catch fishes with bananas supposedly after a lot of rain, the giant fish creature takes the bait and wants to play with the boy. They then show you the fish creature can sort of teleport whenever it goes into the water thats why it disappears without destroying anything. The boy jumps and the creature carries him to its world that it teleports to. They show you a magical world that they go to but then they pan out and show you its only on top of a giant building...
Inspiring! This is really well done :) I thought using water as an other worldly portal was a clever idea.
The ending seemed to have resolved too quickly though. Why did the boy just calmly sit down and feed the fish like they had been great buddies after being almost drowned?
I want to live there.
So he was trying to get at the bananas? I thought he was trying to eat the kid. D:
I agree, plus the music!
i totally agree!! the boy looks like Shiro kinda
Es francesa? la animacion francesa tiene algo artistico que me ha llamado la atencion desde hace un tiempo, aun no se que es
gonna take bananas with me next time i go fishing
wow!!
MY bananas! they're MINE!
imagine if this was a game.. woooohh.. what a journey
