L’HISTOIRE

Ugh for the 100th time i just cant stop going back to this, i love everything about it, little to no dialogue, the sounds, the environment, art style, the animation, the story, for some reason this just relaxes but excites me at the same time✨
I'm glad the Simpsons did the Sylvain Chomet Couch Gag, which has led me to this cartoon as I've been trying to find it on UA-cam for a good few years as I remember watching it as a kid.
Chomet is a master in animation, no doubt, but I think my favorite aspect in his works is the sound design. Very ASMR like, super detailed as hell. It's insane
Best France independent short animated film ever created
I'm in love with this animation. This is probably the 5 time in two days I've come back to watch it. The style, colours, music, it's brilliant
I was born in '88, and I remember watching this back when I was a kid.
I don't know what it is about the french, but their art is so similar to one another as if their culture has integrated an amazing style within their artists.
Id argue, that america’s view of french art is stereotypical because its exactly what they want from it. Less cliché art, even, a lot of times better then what you guys get, dont make it overseas, since its not what is being looked out for. Same thing for art representation of other cultures (asian, latin/spanish, etc)
I love the voicelessness of the main character. Makes him so much easier to relate to and connect too
If you connect with an ungrateful, rude, heartless, manipulative piece of garbage you seriously need help. He's not the "good guy" in this story, he's the character we're meant to learn from by not being like him.
@@roachmorphine8018 I wanna make it clear that I felt sympathetic at first when I wrote this and I thought he was just hungry lol
@@Kids_Scissors Chomet makes every single character in here somehow despicable lol I felt bad for the dead pigeon tho
@@roachmorphine8018 Hunger leads to gluttony, I know it's bad but honestly he thought he found a loophole to eat infinitly, and since basically he couldn't afford fresh food it was the most obvious choice for him. Remember : it's the real world in there, everyone do everything to survive
"Je ne me lasse pas de voir et revoir cette video !..Tellement Drole!!...avec la musique, l'ambiance"..tout y est..".BRAVO!....
That video reminds me that Spongebob Squarepants episode when Gary leaves Spongebob's home and now he's living in a old lady's house where she feeds Gary until he's fattened up. While Gary lives with that old lady, she shows him old pictures of her old snails. A short while later, when Gary opens a closet, he sees that it is full of empty snail shells, implying that the old lady eats the snails that come to her house, then he realizes he's put on a lot of weight and now Gary has to escape from that place while the old lady tries to kill him to eat him
This is where they got the idea, well, ripped this off
@@Cassxowary Uh. Hansel and Gretel? Its kind of a common horror plot.
As a American this is spot on🤣😂 and I remembered this from my college days absolutely pure gold then and now😃 I just watched this in my backyard huffing a lucky strike and just vibing with all the sounds and I can't help but love your palette both in tone of the setting and color 😌 can't lie when the officer saw her sharping hedge clippers it caught me off guard in the best ways 😎
So you dressed up as pigeon in your college days to be fed by a woman who in turn wanted to eat you after you were fattened up? Holy pigeon!
@@garderork339 yup I even went as far as crapping on the dean's car 🤣😂
You're from America and you don't know "sharping" isn't a word?
@@roachmorphine8018 yes got me laughing my ass off here ,it's puckered with joy, holy hell, wow I needed that 🤣 either way up yours USA USA also fuck auto correct 😂
@@roachmorphine8018Well, in America there are many countries whose main language isnt english
My first time watching this since about 30 years ago on British TV late at night.
I did the same in 1997ish as a 12 year old. I've been haunted and mesmerised by it ever since 😂
A little masterpiece
Upon watching this now, I realise I saw this as a child. Quite the traumatic experience! I have had some haunting images in my head of a pidgeon-man now and again, expecially from 19:20. Now I know where that came from!
Great film btw!
Daniel Söderström lol sameeee
excactlly the same for me !i had this memory in my head but i just don knew where he come from ! so i just search" women and pigeon"and i find it ! lot of memories...
thanks the animators for nightmares
Du såg den på SVT, eller hur? ;)
I've been haunted since I randomly watched it late one night back in 1997
I had looked for this everywhere and it’s spectacular. The nightmare scene in it is terrifying but hilarious ! It’s a sad state of affairs when doves/pigeons have a better living arrangement than you do and they eat for free !
Hi, Do you know, where can i get more of this kind of art?
@@mistermcfly9572 Look into Silvan’s more well known films like The Triplets of Belleville and The Illusionist. He also provided a marvelous couch gag for The Simpsons, but other than that I don’t know if Silvan is still animating.
@@EBThisThat I've seen all the movies you refer, but I want to know if there similar movies with this artwork. And yes, sylvain has a proyect movie called "the thousand miles" and looks spectacular.
Saludos desde México ;)
@@mistermcfly9572 When is this one scheduled for release ?
Far as a pastel palette like this, it’s hard to say honestly. I saw one watercolor stop motion film called Cryptozoo. Beyond that none other really stands out.
Even the cleaner was in on getting some food 😂
i can't with how the old lady spins like she's in fucking Mario Kart
PURE GOLDEN CINEMA!
At first I thought he was going to eat the pigeon he caught but the was an interesting twist.
Love the artwork, have been rewatching for years now lol
That little "pop" sound at #8:40 when be bobs the pigeon always gets a chuckle from me
Hola! Saluditos! ,,😚
The… police guard..? (I think that’s what he is) has actually had cameos in sylvain chomets other animated films (specifically the triplets of Belleville and The Illusionist)
Seriously? The gendarme is in those two too?
A tout les 108 qui regardent ce film
I feel obese just watching this, so cramped.
Warf!!! 🤪🤗🦆🦦🐮🦉🐽🐀
For some reason, I got this weird Invader Zim vibe from his ridiculous pigeon get-up.
Man I saw this back when it came out and just accidentally stumbled onto it again just now. Just as fantastic as the first time I saw it. lol
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH WHH IS THIS THE BEST PIECE OF FOOTAGE HUMANITY HAS EVER CRETAED, CHOMET IS A GENIUS AND IS THE BEST ANIMATOR oF ALL TIIIMEMEME
This won a BAFTA and was nominated for an Oscar.
I began watching this several times on Short of the Week but never watched it all the way. The advertisements across the bottom distracted me too much. I"m going to go watch the others now.
Oh my god, i have looked everywhere in this. I remember when i was in grade 3 my french teacher showed this to the whole class.
The food in this is delicious 😋.
Lol, always thought the food in this short looked better than Triples of Belleville
Gran corto de Sylvain Chomet
Love it 🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊feed New York pigeons every day
bravo au dessinateur !
For some reason this scared the utter shit out of me a kid
bruh i feel unseasy an im 20 now (well 19 but only a little bit left)

I love it so much!❤ Thank you for sharing!
Awesome!!! My both boys and I, we just love this story!!!😁😁😁
Yeah chomet did that too
Does anyone know what the main theme of this short is called? I know it's made by Jean Corti, thanks to the credits, but I can't seem to find the damn thing. The only song I can find that resembles it is Fiorina, but the problem with it is that it has a voice over it, so I can't listen to it as an instrumental. If anyone has a link to the actual song, they will be forever in my debt.
ua-cam.com/video/Bu3gBeFTp3g/v-deo.html u mean this song?
@@griffinfrench Yeah. It may not be a "clean" version of it, but I suppose it will have to do for now. Thank you for the link.
Thanks for posting.

DO NOT feed the pigeons that hang out at Rue Genistre x Pl. d’ armes in Luxembourg City! They literally work as a group and will swarm you if you so much as feed them a fried potato.
those nasty little fat chumps but r u speaking from experience
Went on to direct The Triplets of Belleville
Madame is so cute lol
Yeah I really love the bit when she attacks him

Place Montmartre- Jean Corti.
It’s actually a remake of the song « Fiorina » from Jean Corti

so good❤
Anyone know the song and artist who used part of this film for the video?
As this type of animation is called, please respond

This was actually made in mtl ... I work with one of the painters in there 😃
this is like triplets of belleville
Ya gotta be neighbourly
j'adore
This style lowkey scary
Hola mundo podrian atudarme...
Donde puedo ver el cortometraje completo?
Este es el cortometraje completo :v
Oh mon dieu
I don’t understand, whats the point of the film?
I think its about a Former Policemen in french base on his uniform couldn't living his life to eat as many food cuz of his retirement as you can see how he ration a tiny fish and when he see the old lady feeding the pigeons which fatten them up, so he has an idea to become a pigeon so he can have free food everyday. The morality is that some of us like giving food to feed the birds or animal more then giving it to human because we think it's fun when theres human among us who beg for food but was never offer to and treated differently
To induce severe psychological trauma in the victim.
Genial!
Is he really a policeman or he just dresses like that? Because it is strange he has nothing to eat really.
It could be a commentary on how public servants in France are paid very little.
Is it just me, or does the main character remind anyone else of Oskar Dirlewanger for some reason?
Brush moustache made me thought of Hitler at the first moment.
Yes, he looks almost exactly like Oskar. Perhaps this character’s looks, as well as his crafty schemes, might all be a reference to this historical figure.
@@russianfunkerroma both are nazis so of course they would have the same style
