AA Executive Platinum for the last few years now. I fly for business every other week, and spend a lot of money since we always have to book refundable fares. I get upgraded on almost any flight unless I am late to booking and all of the upgrades are taken. I haven't been in a coach seat in years unless I change a flight on am on a non first class plane. For me access to the Executive Platinum desk is the most important part. I was flying to New Orleans when all the pilots were "sick" due to covid mandates, and having access to someone that could ensure I got to my location was critical. I know I saw a lot of people with no status stuck for days.
Another option that I think is worth mentioning, especially if somebody has a lot of free time, or has a job where they spend a lot of time sitting trying to look busy, is that you can do surveys to earn miles. I have decided to set a challenging, and possibly foolish goal of getting Platinum Status completely by using surveys. My original goal was to get gold, and I plan on doing surveys every second that I have until I hit gold, but after that I plan on slowing my Pace, but making sure that I do surveys often enough to hit Platinum by the end of February.
@@LukesPointsandMiles I agree that it's probably not the best use of time, but all of my online shopping is done through sites that don't earn promotions, and all of my flights are award, so no earning there. I'm also hoping that I'll accidentally earn enough points for a flight or two on the journey. I fly to Europe on Cathay and BA, so one world status is worth a little time lol. I appreciate the quick reply, especially for an older video.
Something worth noting. Maybe someone already discovered this. For Simply Miles, you do not need an American Airlines Credit card. You just need an AAdvantage account and a Mastercard. It can be any Mastercard.
Great video Luke! I’m shooting for gold status. I wish we had more restaurant options in their dining program in my area. It’s either Hooters or Dickeys BBQ 🙄😐
@@LukesPointsandMiles yes …. Two ways of getting in ….. international flights and first class….. because I fly to Mexico from Las Vegas …. In that section you will find about first/business class tickets and international tickets
@@nadaanilom3995 ah I see. I’m think most AA are domestic and those folks are not eligible to enter the lounge. I think it only transcontinental 1st on certain planes
@@LukesPointsandMiles next time I fly down to Mexico on first /business I’ll make a video …. Showing going into the lounge without status /credit card…. Or unless you beat me to it lol… take care and safe flying
Informative video Luke. Quick question that maybe you or someone here knows the answer to. What happens with my current miles? Do they convert to loyalty points? If so, are they a 1-for-1 conversion?
No. Your miles are still going to be miles. Loyalty points and miles will be two separate things. You’ll still use AA miles to purchase rewards flights.
I just took a work trip and before landing, they offered several bonuses for signing up. I was looking for a good card anyway. Question: once you have points and status, do they expire after a certain amount of time? = Subscribed
Yes / no. For some reason AA miles expire after I think 18 months unless you earn or spend a mikes then the clock resets. Also, for as long as you have an AA credit open, they won’t expire.
It likely is not for most folks. For me it’s worth it for a number of reasons. One is I make UA-cam videos. I want to make UA-cam video about aa status and I need to experience it for that reason. The mortgage I use with Plastiq is a rental property and it is a business expense as well. It also automates easily abs gives me almost 60 days I can carry a monthly payment. 2.85% when only considering the math make it not worth it but I think I mention that.
i was able to recently gain Gold status because I received an offer email from AA. It cost me around 45k miles which I had racked up over a few years. This was a super quick way to hit the status.
Now that your points total resets to 0 every March 1st, its nearly impossible to achieve the status you want. I just became Platinum 3 days before the reset. I had enough points when they would accrue and carry over. I fly 2 trips per month and 1 international trip per year. With their new system I may not hit 75000 to remain platinum. At that rate I would never be able to become platinum pro sine they reset to 0 every year now. So much for being loyal to a carrier. Will see what happens this year. Perhaps its time to change to Delta. Thanks American , For what !!

I never mention the surveys because I can’t imagine that being a good use of anyones time. I would love to hear how it goes though!

I booked a flight on Iberia airlines and have an American advantage number am I able to get miles on my American account from the Iberia flight?
Yes. You will earn AA miles. As long as your AA number is added to the Iberia itinerary
Why would you not check in on the app? I never go to the counter I just walk straight to security
This video is kinda old. I have no clue what you mean.
Admirals Clubs are not good. AA Flagship Lounges great.
Oh wow. Good to know!!
Not enough of them yet
So if I were to spend 200k USD on my card, would I be automatically an executive premium?
Yes
what do you think of AA premium economy dfw to hnl for example?
I think it’s a better than what I’ll be flying. I have a man cabin ticket from DFW to HNL next year !!

There was no link to plastiq provided. Did you remove it for a reason.
I don’t remember. I haven’t used Plastiq in a long time I don’t even think I have a link anymore. But I appreciate the support!
One question? Do I need to spend that much every year? Does the points expire every year? And do I need to start over?
You will need to re-qualify. Getting status in 2022 doesn’t give you status forever.
Paying an additional 2.85% for your mortgage and car payments.....not sure that is worth loyalty points for an airline.

Been thinking to apply for American Airlines Citybank business
I use the business version. It has some ok multipliers.
@@LukesPointsandMiles Wow thank you
New to all of this so stupid question....what do you do with loyalty points?
You don’t do anything with them. Once you have so many you would earn status.

That’s not a bad deal. The deal the offered me was pretty terrible.
Have you reached AA status? How was your experience?
I use cash all the time I just go ahead and buy.
I just bought 36,000 for 6 to Italy in cash will I get miles without a card .
Nice moves!
I have award miles but no loyalty points. How can that be??
That’s interesting. Maybe the only points you have are from a gc bonus from last status year?
anything new in 2023? i kept hearing rumors changes are supposed to come?
