“Listen, I know This one's a contradiction because of how happy it sounds But the lyrics are so down” They’ve been masters of this game for a long time!
I don't consider this song a contradiction. The song is happy because of what was survived and the person who helped. The song is heavy, but it isn't sad.

Stay alive, friends - it's worth it. I promise!! Love all of you crazy cliquies out there!! ❤️
@@scrensaver_ I've heard several people make comments about howTyler "definitely tried to" and how he did in the past few days. Which I've never heard until now. The only thing I've seen said is that he told people at the music video shoot that it was about panic attack(s) while he was in college.
The detail of the clothing Tyler wears in this is perfect. He’s dressed like Arthur Miller - the playwright who wrote All My Sons, which is where the name Twenty One Pilots comes from. A really interesting nod to the beginnings of the band.

"A taste test, of what I hate less" is certainly referencing Chlorine Also its really significant when he brings out the ukelele at the end. A staple of their earlier work.
I didn’t come up with this idea but I like the idea that they made the song so rock like and fast pace to match the adrenaline he must’ve been feeling the moment he was out in the road. Along with the lyrics repeating and Tyler yelling, as if it was him thinking in his mind. “I don’t wanna be here. I don’t wanna be here! What’s about to happen? What’s about to happen?” He’s yelling it and repeating it fast, along with fast pace music. It matches what he was probably feeling like in the moment on the road
Love this observation. The more I listen to is, it goes from a panic/adrenaline tone, to a defiant one where he is maintaining eye contact with the camera as it drives by, then to a calm hopeful tone at the end. It’s an incredible song, quickly climbing up my list of their best songs.
Tyler's been suicidal. he also has a tattoo in his wrist symbolizing the elastic bands that they give you when you want to harm yourself. He's constant message, even addressing anxiety, suicidal though and depression has always been "Stay alive", "you're not alone" and his speech in every concert about remembering that day, all together celebrating, another day has passed and you're alive. MIGRAINE is absolutely where words and music are opposite, he talks very clearly about suicidal thoughts with the most upbeat and chill base. Singing "...but I know we've made it this far, KID" and at the end "And I think we should take a day to break away from all the pain our brain has made (...) and I will say that we should take a moment and hold it and keep it frozen and KNOW THAT LIFE HAS AN HOPEFUL UNDERTONE". I personally believe that the next semester is the next day, the possibility to start again. And that he's not a person who yelled "Hey, KID, get out of the road" is always music. Tyler always said that music has been his outlet, what saved him from his mind, from his pain. Music for him is pleasure and pain, like he explained in Chlorine, creating drains him but he can't stop until it's perfect and Ned not throwing himself in the pool until the song is so is the symbol. Kitchen sink, he never explained what happened in the kitchen sink "a kitchen sing to me is not what a kitchen sink is you" means that what I happened to me in that moment is important, your discover, your positive thought can happen in any other moment, in every other place. And the fact the at the end he's dressed as during the concert has a meaning too, given the fact he's always said that his favourite moment is when he's playing live, performing is when anxiety is away even if there's always the black in his neck and hand, Blurryface symbol of anxiety, suffocating when he's singing and insecurity when he's writing. My question is why the dark tint is bigger and darker than ever when he's talking about a new era, escaping DEMA... like those feelings are going to be with you for ever and you will learn how to live with them or are they're going to disappear going ahead with the songs? (I don't believe this second option) And I asked myself why in one part of the chorus he wears the same mask of Overcompensate. I don't understand the meaning of his hands gesture at some point but it surely has a meaning...
I think they've always been a punk band and just finally managed to write a punk song, but through all their messing around in every genre and subgenre under the sun, they've always had a punk disposition xD
If this is called punk today then take me back in the 70's and early 80's. This is equivalent to what they turned country into today lol. I prefer the stressed out days myself. This isn't bad though just my personal tastes.
@@CheesePeteza LOL I think that's the only genre they haven't really touched yet 😂. But I've been thinking the same thing if they would dare to do a country song. I can see Tyler doing it just prove that he can hahaha
My idea on the 2 Lane idea you were talking about. I think they want a vibe people can really jam to for catharsis. But like you said, not leave them with the darkness but rather with a "hopeful undertone" as mentioned in migraine.
it’s what they really shine at and to large credit Tyler specifically since he is behind most of the lyricism. He has a way of discussing very heavy topics in a poetic yet airy way. In a way that pulls you out of your darkness towards some hope of something brighter rather than allowing you to sit in that empty vile place. His lyricism is almost a call to arms to fight back to get up and find the things that are still worth it and use it as the light that pushes you forward. I think it’s beautiful and it’s what has always drawn me to their music. It doesn’t allow me to sulk and sit forever. It gives me courage and motivation when most needed. Am I just hyping it? Maybe. But my interpretation of the music feels very hype worthy lol
Semester are his Depressions guys... Every time he thinks its done they never come back it starts again. The loop on the road. Some people under the video talked about the Song Heavydirtysoul that he figured out that feeling stucking in that loop first time around that time.
I've been listening to a lot of music from the first part of the 90s lately and that is the vibe this song is giving me. It's great! Definitely has a Punk feel. 1994 was a good year for music.
Great breakdown, you always see what the artists is trying to convey. So glad you are covering the new TOP tracks. Seems we will get a music video for every song on the album.
Actually a few days before this song, I had a mental breakdown and did basically exactly what the songs lyrics described. I ran out in the middle of the night in the middle of the road, not really trying to die, but actually hoping that one of the cars would hit me and I would be gone. I ended up in the psych ward for a week after that and the song came out as soon as I got back and it was really weird for me

I am SO anticipating seeing this live. Also: the intentionality at the end of Tyler making eye contact with exactly who needs to hear this. SO flipping good!
To me, the sequence that repeats with him jumping out of the road over and over is very similar to how my memory replays stressful situations I've been in. I may not remember everything perfectly, but I do remember "certain things" and my brain will fill in the parts I don't fully remember. Hence, him jumping out of the way differently each time. And my brain will replay that situation over and over and over until I end up in a panic attack unless I can distract myself, and I usually use music to do that 😊
Knox! Always the best breakdowns. You're a master at this, I respect your take. Always! I think it's because you are an artist yourself, you understand the creativity behind every aspect of the music. Thank you.

Always been a hardcore TOP fan, but this song man. I balled my eyes out when I first heard it. Such cheery music but the lyrics, was literally like he was discussing the inside of my brain! I really like the part where it goes acoustic and the video parallels one of his first biggest hits which was Car Radio. So he is talking about new beginnings and fresh starts and he is showing where he has been but with a new song.
I always love how much their songs speak to my MH. But they've gone so far with their lyrics and even instrumentals and the intertwining is nuttss compared to 8 yrs ago
I saw a comment on another video saying that Tyler diving out of the way of the car represents each album. The first three times he goes left, representing Vessel, Blurryface, and Trench being similar in their base vibes and story. When he goes right it represents Scaled and Icy being propaganda and being different from what everything else is. The last time, Clancy is in the middle and doesn't really move, showing that he's finally sure of himself and is ready to stand up to the bishops.
in like 2012 i ran into them while i was tripping balls at like 2am at a circle k in a small town near columbus, they had just played a live show and a local bar. i knew they were a band because of their rig so asked about them and at the time they only had the "trees" demo and a couple others. went back and told my friends, once they blew up all my friends freaked lol. few years back i finally saw them again in a sold out arena that they sold out for the 3rd night in a row... life is crazy.
The thing about standards, graduate and stuff is what Tyler went through, he had to choose between college and music. He was a talented basketball player too. But he chose music and with that uncertainty, insecurity, anxiety came along. He self doubt himself for a long period of time, coming from a conservative and religious family but that always supported him. He felt the pressure. Btw, I love but at the same time I want to know why (with him there's always a why, there's always a reason) he decided to go back to this punk rock vibe, more commercial than rock... maybe because he's talking about the past...
Hey Knox, if you are on a Twenty One Pilots kick for a bit. I’d recommend Message Man, Ode To Sleep and The Outside for some good bars. Maybe Redecorate for more deep lyrics.
The amount of depth in TØP catalog is kind of crazy honestly. This album, based off 2 singles, seems like it's going to be all over the place and I love it. Genre-less.
I kinda thought at a point that these lyrics reference sleep paralysis. "Can't feel my legs Might suffocate There's a pressure in my chest." Because there's already been some reference to sleep in the last song ("don't sleep on a boy that can't fall asleep twice"), but also we get the interesting image of being on the edge of waking up, but not being able to completely. I know the lyrics say "IN my chest", not "ON my chest", but there's also the fact that sleep paralysis is often described by a heart wrenching suffocating pressure on your chest, as if someone is sitting on it.
Not the 1st reaction for me...but living on the different perspectives folks have on this 1. 😳 Tyler with the deer in the headlights look ...like where the hell am I? Living both his lives on stage. Anxiety proned and Overcoming singer. He is always undestanding the pressure but always wanting to keep moving forward. If youd stay stuck in the past ...you can never move forward to the future. Metaphor Masters these guys are. T0P ❤🔥
This song is my life and I still think about killing myself(but not as seriously as my past attempts) because I can barely stand anxiety, especially social anxiety because I can't pursue the type of relationship I want with certain people I want to be a major part of my life that I know would help make me happier in this life because I'm always fucking anxious and people see it weirdly. Which makes me more anxious. When he said "can you die of anxiousness" I felt that in my soul
@@goofyahboikins69 there's times in life, when you feel like there's no other choice my friend, what you said doesn't help anyone. Say that to someone suicidal, all it could do is make them wanna do it even more. If you've never been suicidal, completely commited. Then don't say that.
For me, I took the song literally. This is my university story, I don't wanna be there. Failed subjects? Oh well, start fresh next semester. I've repeated that 5x and hit rock bottom pretty quick. But then I never gave up, changed course, graduated. This song fucking hit me like a truck--now that Im looking back at it, I still don't wanna be there. The sheer pressure and anxiety of a university is soul crushing despite the fact that its actually a gentle introduction to the dog-eat-dog world outside.

Well said!
Btw, I love but at the same time I want to know why (with him there's always a why, there's always a reason) he decided to go back to this punk rock vibe, more commercial than rock... maybe because he's talking about the past...
hiiii clique on top
Felt that ❤
Hey Knox, if you are on a Twenty One Pilots kick for a bit.
Genre-less.
“Headlights call my name” Fake you out reference
A song similar to this in regards as the contrast between music and lyrics is "not today", he even says it in the song 😂
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
what an explanation men, heads of
Sounds straight up punk and I'm here for this
I kinda thought at a point that these lyrics reference sleep paralysis.
"Can't feel my legs
Might suffocate
There's a pressure in my chest."
Because there's already been some reference to sleep in the last song ("don't sleep on a boy that can't fall asleep twice"), but also we get the interesting image of being on the edge of waking up, but not being able to completely. I know the lyrics say "IN my chest", not "ON my chest", but there's also the fact that sleep paralysis is often described by a heart wrenching suffocating pressure on your chest, as if someone is sitting on it.
You should totally react to the bridge by Jon Keith.
nicee
Not the 1st reaction for me...but living on the different perspectives folks have on this 1. 😳 Tyler with the deer in the headlights look ...like where the hell am I? Living both his lives on stage. Anxiety proned and Overcoming singer. He is always undestanding the pressure but always wanting to keep moving forward.
If youd stay stuck in the past ...you can never move forward to the future. Metaphor Masters these guys are. T0P ❤🔥

Pete & bas reaction next?
This song is my life and I still think about killing myself(but not as seriously as my past attempts) because I can barely stand anxiety, especially social anxiety because I can't pursue the type of relationship I want with certain people I want to be a major part of my life that I know would help make me happier in this life because I'm always fucking anxious and people see it weirdly. Which makes me more anxious. When he said "can you die of anxiousness" I felt that in my soul
Ending it yourself is a b1tch move
@@goofyahboikins69 there's times in life, when you feel like there's no other choice my friend, what you said doesn't help anyone. Say that to someone suicidal, all it could do is make them wanna do it even more. If you've never been suicidal, completely commited. Then don't say that.
@@harryshome4588 still a b1tch move bro I get it but sumtimes u gotta man tf up and eat that sh1t
Twenty One pilots - Car Radio
Shakira dropped her new album you have to check it out🔥🔥 Love your reactions❤
Can you react to Jk D animator video: J Cole Cooks Kendrick Studio 27 edition
For me, I took the song literally. This is my university story, I don't wanna be there. Failed subjects? Oh well, start fresh next semester. I've repeated that 5x and hit rock bottom pretty quick.
But then I never gave up, changed course, graduated. This song fucking hit me like a truck--now that Im looking back at it, I still don't wanna be there. The sheer pressure and anxiety of a university is soul crushing despite the fact that its actually a gentle introduction to the dog-eat-dog world outside.
