Tyler's such an underrated MC cos he's got the full package - storyboards his own beats, chameleons into many genres, can do a mean metal scream, has a dope singing voice, has bars for days (especially on his earlier stuff like 'Forest', 'Kitchen Sink'). He also tackles mental health topics like suicide, depression, and anxiety so tactfully well. TØP's past few albums have also had an overarching interconnected world-building theme around them. as someone who has English as a second language, i listened to this song on my early days of learning English and didn't know what latter meant so i always though the song said ladder.
“Out of student loans and tree house homes we all would take the latter” is probably one of my favorite rhymes ever written by anyone ever. People want to take the “latter” (ladder) out of student loans, people want to take the “latter” (ladder) that goes to the treehouse, and out of student loans and and tree house homes, everyone would pick the ladder to the tree house. It’s just amazing how this line is both relatable, and how the line has a lot of wordplays going on.
Yeah red is the color scheme for that whole album (""Blurryface"" album). For that album the color red represents a character named "Blurryface", who is his alter ego that represents his insecurities anxieties etc. In this song, that weird demonic voice at end is "Blurryface".
I thought it was the black that represents blurry face. That’s why his hands are painted black and it shows on other music videos spreading to signify how strong the hold his insecurities are on him.
@@OnyxZeroX Blurryface is definitely red, no doubt.....but there is something you are correct about; is the black paint on his neck/hands represent his insecurities. Yes that part is right. But Blurryface is definitely red.

There's a whole world he built that's layered into the songs and visuals and to the casual fan, they might not be aware of subtle yet significant lines/meanings in the music.
My favorite line "We would all the the latter." He could just mean the latter as in the tree house as an option, but we'd take the ladder to climb it and get out of our stress. And then "You need to make money" you climb the work ladder to make more and more. Word play.
Yay finally some Twenty one pilots!!!!! Hope you’ll do more of their songs in the future because they have a whole storyline to their musics and your breakdowns in their songs would be the absolute besttttttt!!
"Out of student loans and tree house homes we all would take the latter (ladder)." I love the double word play there. One of the cleverest, simplest wordplays in a song I've ever heard.
OMG! I love this song. I'm a 67 year old BTS Army (my oldest granddaughter showed me the way) so I don't listen to much of your other stuff - but 21 Pilots is in my life a lot because my son and my daughter and their children are big 21 Pilots fans and they converted this old lady. My son bought me the lyrics for Stressed Out in a frame shaped like an old fashion 45rpm record for Christmas. My 9 year old granddaughter was jealous because it's her favourite song! I think 21 Pilots are a lot like BTS because their lyrics are very meaningful and personal and they've helped my son and daughter a lot. Thank you for reacting to this (and to BTS) 💜💜💜
NF in his song 'Know': "I'm a little bit TØP, Stressed Out What does that mean? I'm a rap fiend with a bad lead You could run if you want, but you'll never catch me"
Ok everyone probably wants him to listen to the obvious songs like lane boy, levitate or car radio. But I want him to react to Ode to Sleep, neon crave stone, and message man.
I learned not to look back and despair about the past, there's certainly points in my life when I did that. I stopped once I realized I will be looking back 5 or 6 years from now and feel the same about this exact moment. Never live in the past, the future is what matters. Cheers friends, keep your heads up, life's a bitch for us all.
I am commenting to say, great reaction, and yes, those are their parent's houses and the same ones they grew up in Edit: The red eyes and the demonic voice at the end symbolizes Blurryface (AKA, the name of the album, AKA Tyler's insecurity, and depression)
I stumbled across this song during my senior year of High School and it was the perfect time for me. Although I had heard and enjoyed some TOP songs previously, this song hit me at the perfect time and got me to dive into their music fully. For me, it speaks to the power and importance of art
if you want to continue with twenty one pilots I highly suggest to go with order to really understand their message and story, so start from their first album, not necessarily self-titled but I'd say at least vessel. You won't regret it they're amazing
You're my favorite reactor and twenty one pilots and NF are my favorites musicians and overall people honestly, I don't know what I would do without them and without their music, they mean a lot to me. Having you react to them both means the world to me and I'm so happy and excited that you're finally diving into their world as well. I promise you, you're gonna love it! We appreciate what you do, keep it going man, much love🖤
Finally yes start at blurryface the whole album the songs and the music videos and also understand the dema storyline. A new album is coming out called scaled and icy on may 21st the black paint in his hands and neck represents his insecurities. His neck is his voice and his hands are his writing. He is being controlled by blurryface which is a character that represents all of Tyler’s sadness and anxiety. Red represents in this world blurryface, yellow represents hope, and blue represents failing to find hope. After blurryface react to vessel. Then trench, also you could react to their other albums if you want. There’s way more stuff I have to tell you but if I did that. I would be here for days. The deeper voice also represents blurryface Edit: I’ve been typing and editing for such a long time
Something I really love about this song is the line “Out of student loans and treehouse homes we all would take the latter.” I’ve always seen it as a play on words where the word latter sounds similar to ladder, like a ladder going up to a treehouse.
I really like the student loans or tree hous line when he says we would take the later meaning the second part of that sentence or ladder to get into the tree house
Fake You Out, Car Radio, Ode to Sleep and Ride are just a few twentyone pilot songs that are just so good, I’m obsessed. I’d love to see you do deep dives on them!
Recommendation list in order ( in this order you'll understand concepts of last 2 albums and will be able to see growth of this band): 1st lane : Vessel album - Ode to sleep (music video) - Car radio (music video) + - holding on to you (music video - cuz it's first big video work from TOP) - guns for hands (music video) - migraine (music video or The live room version) - trees (live from fox theater ! - song with one of the biggest meaning for Tyler , he wrote it a looong time ago in high school ) 2nd line : blurryface album - stressed out (music video, huge song that made them so popular right now) + - lane boy (music video) + - ride (live from Fox theater) - hometown (lyrics video) - tear in my heart (music video) - the judge (lyrics video) - fairy local (music video) - message man (lyrics video) - goner (live from fox theatre , ending of the album) - Heavydirtysoul ( music video - this one is the connection to the next album, start of storyline) 3rd line : Trench album - jumpsuit ( music video , connected to hvdrtsl) - nico and the niners (music video, next one in saga) - levitate (music video, next one in saga) - chlorine (music video) - the hype (BOTH, album and Berlin session versions ) - my blood (music video) - pet cheetah (lyrics video) - morph (lyrics video, a bit of connection to storyline) - Heathens ( music video, spin off, not from any album but have a lot of small connections to story) + - neon gravestones (lyrics video, influence to the story) - legend (lyrics video) - bandito (lyrics video, huge connection in storyline) - leave the city ( lyrics video, ending of era ) 4th line (extra) - TOP x Mutemath session - stripped down storyteller session by Tyler - kitchen sink (live version) - House of gold (live room or official video) - Forest (live Newport music hall ) - fall away (feat dr. Blum) - level of concern (official video) - blasphemy, drown (from Tyler's solo project he made in high school) - taxi cab (live SiriusXM) - cut my lip (lyrics video) - Car radio (captured in The live room) - Friend please (lyrics video) - March to the sea (lyrics video) - Trapdoor (lyrics video) - Isle of flightless birds (lyrics video)
I see you everywhere I go on UA-cam Shane, haven’t commented before but clearly we’re both tøp reactor stalkers. You must have your list on copy/paste (not a criticism, it’s fantastic that you’re encouraging reactors to listen in the right order, gives me more to watch!!)
Thank you for doing this one! I feel you on it hitting hard - it makes me tear up every time since I first heard it when it came out 15 years ago. I'm in love with twenty one pilots, I have been for years. Their music resonates with me on a different level. The songs are beautiful and have a great depth to them.
I can relate to this song a lot, especially with "Wake up, you need to make money." My family know that I've been trying to make streaming into a full time thing since before lockdown but we always get into fights and arguments about it, usually ending with them telling me that I'll never make it or that I'm not entertaining enough to make it. But I stand my ground and just say that I'm willing to put in the work to make it happen and make it work.
The ending when his voice gets distorted gives me the feeling that he is now grown up and talking about when he was a kid and that the demonic voice symbolizes that he's now an adult and is broken down from the world

"I'm a little bit TØP, Stressed Out
What does that mean?
I'm a rap fiend with a bad lead
You could run if you want, but you'll never catch me"
👏😶🖤
Ok everyone probably wants him to listen to the obvious songs like lane boy, levitate or car radio. But I want him to react to Ode to Sleep, neon crave stone, and message man.
Yooo Neon Gravestones is absolutely amazing. I love that song
I wanna see House of Gold on the channel.
Oh yeah or doubt!
@Grace Nutter yassss
Neon Crave Stone
YOU ARE THE BEST ! I LOVE WATCHING YOUR VIDEOS SOOOOOO MUCH ! LOVE YOU
Love you too. Thanks for supporting 🙌
@@KnoxHill in someone above comments has someone who wants you know about blurryface ma bro ?
Its also wordplay with homophones; “ladder” and “latter”
I learned not to look back and despair about the past, there's certainly points in my life when I did that. I stopped once I realized I will be looking back 5 or 6 years from now and feel the same about this exact moment. Never live in the past, the future is what matters. Cheers friends, keep your heads up, life's a bitch for us all.
Cherry capri suns are lovely 🙂
I love your breakdowns BTW 😃
I am commenting to say, great reaction, and yes, those are their parent's houses and the same ones they grew up in
Edit: The red eyes and the demonic voice at the end symbolizes Blurryface (AKA, the name of the album, AKA Tyler's insecurity, and depression)
I stumbled across this song during my senior year of High School and it was the perfect time for me. Although I had heard and enjoyed some TOP songs previously, this song hit me at the perfect time and got me to dive into their music fully. For me, it speaks to the power and importance of art
“How’s those lies taste” Lol. My thoughts exactly
At 36 I still wear a backpack everyday to work, I’m always ready for anything with supplies
if you want to continue with twenty one pilots I highly suggest to go with order to really understand their message and story, so start from their first album, not necessarily self-titled but I'd say at least vessel.
The deeper voice also represents blurryface
Edit: I’ve been typing and editing for such a long time
Didnt know it had so many meaning. I'm in! How shud i start twenty one pilots?
Appreciate the context thank you
@@smiletoday7341 vessel or blurryface
I wouldnt put vessel in between Blurryface and Trench, since they are so connected to eachother :D
@@madwezrl4300 I agree but there is a lot of references to vessel in blurryface and trench
Something I really love about this song is the line “Out of student loans and treehouse homes we all would take the latter.” I’ve always seen it as a play on words where the word latter sounds similar to ladder, like a ladder going up to a treehouse.
Yes thank you thought I was the only one
Love it how everyone UA-camr who reacts to stressed out pauses after seeing the handshake😂😂😂😅😅
I really like the student loans or tree hous line when he says we would take the later meaning the second part of that sentence or ladder to get into the tree house
The lyrical talent of tøp is ridiculously good
That handshake is literally awesome
Bro u gotta do twenty one pilots LEVITATE...THAT'S THE JAM! Sick flow on that one
Fake You Out, Car Radio, Ode to Sleep and Ride are just a few twentyone pilot songs that are just so good, I’m obsessed. I’d love to see you do deep dives on them!

I see you everywhere I go on UA-cam Shane, haven’t commented before but clearly we’re both tøp reactor stalkers. You must have your list on copy/paste (not a criticism, it’s fantastic that you’re encouraging reactors to listen in the right order, gives me more to watch!!)
@@esselleanderic small mission , but this list might help a lot for guys who just start to discover TOP )
@@Shanejke Loving your work
You dissected this sooo well man, I really enjoyed this video
You missed that finesse part when he sings "Out of student loans and tree house home we always take the *Ladder*" Double meaning.
My favorite reactor reacting to my favorite band. How bout that.
Me -loving OldschoolHipHop and Kpop, but Twenty One Pilots is still my favorite Band: My life is complete now.
Omg so samee
Thank you for doing this one! I feel you on it hitting hard - it makes me tear up every time since I first heard it when it came out 15 years ago. It paints such a picture of loss and destruction and regret - Kills me that she doesn't even know who he is. These lyrics are real poetic storytelling. Evocative.
HEATHENS🖤🖤
Yasss, thank you knoxxxxxx! I just recommended this on Saturday stream!!!!!
I can’t believe you missed the ladder and latter punchline when he was talking about tree house and student loans.
Love the initial reaction to the handshake. I was somewhere people shouldn’t be laughing and I nearly pissed myself. Good thing I was in a place that’s not a bad thing. I can only imagine what any coworkers may have thought if they herd my laugh
Stressed out is my favorite song out of every twenty one pilots song. Great reaction 🔥
Damn I'm early, you might also like Chlorinefrom them.
Chlorine is so damn catchy. I love it lol
I love that you did this song Knox! This made me go through my Apple Music library to make sure all my favorite 21 pilots songs are present and accounted for. Thanks!
*NF ft. TWENTY ONE PILOTS*
They have to collab cause they have the same voices so they really sound the same if you close your eyes to twenty one pilots and think that NF is rapping it really does sound like nf... 😨😱
You know NF is inspired by TØP & also references them in his songs
I love your music I get lonely literally changed my life I can't thank you enough man chaos theory was nothing but greatness keep up the good work
Well if we're reacting to Twenty One Pilots now, then Heavydirtysoul should be next 😂
Hell yes!! I still remember listening to it in my emo phase lol I COULDN'T GET ENOUGH OF THAT SONG
Tbh, Heavydirtysoul is part of a series of music videos, so those should be viewed correctly, as they are all linked :D
Love the genuine reaction and how you break things down that’s what reactions are all about!!!! Continue to be who you are and grow and flourish!!! (New viewer) 💪🏽
No puedo creer que Knox no conocía a TOP !!! Wtf
Jajaja sii, dice que ya había escuchado está canción pero hace mucho tiempo porque se volvió famosa, pero que nunca vio el vídeo jaja, raro, pero amo que empiece a reaccionar a ellos porq tienen canciones tan buenas
I love this song.
Please do Chlorine. I am dying for someone to break that one down.
😀
Will check it out! Thanks for supporting
I love your videos ... The way you process lyrics, all of it !! I never get angry when you paused the MV because I enjoy the way you explained the songs... Greetings from Mexico
React to heathens pls
Plus the title of song is familiar 😉
Have watched many of your videos and love the breakdowns of the songs. You have a great talent. I just Subscribed (don't know why I hadn't been already....), and I just liked a bunch of your videos of ones I have seen. I always forget to like & comment on videos that I like, even though I know how much it can help the channel,; I'll blame my ADHD lol . Much love bro!
Josh drumming skills not being appreciated 😭
Tyler is truly brilliant. Glad you’re doing them
Bro… you’re telling me in like 2016 you weren’t hearing this being played everywhere and on every radio?
The way things came around in the intro was spectacular
literally
I'm in love with twenty one pilots, I have been for years. Their music resonates with me on a different level. The songs are beautiful and have a great depth to them.
Loved this you should definitely do more Twenty One Pilots!!! Long time sub, love the reactions!
Student loan/treehouse home is one of my fav lines ever because it's the latter of the 2 and the ladder for a tree house home. Super clever
I can relate to this song a lot, especially with "Wake up, you need to make money." My family know that I've been trying to make streaming into a full time thing since before lockdown but we always get into fights and arguments about it, usually ending with them telling me that I'll never make it or that I'm not entertaining enough to make it. But I stand my ground and just say that I'm willing to put in the work to make it happen and make it work.
my favorite Capri Sun flavor was the silver one
My man your channel is popping off! Not too long ago i think you were under 100k! GG my man!
i’ve been waiting so long for this :))
Thanks knox, Id never heard of this group, and never heard this song before. might have to check their other stuff myself now 💜🇦🇺
The ending when his voice gets distorted gives me the feeling that he is now grown up and talking about when he was a kid and that the demonic voice symbolizes that he's now an adult and is broken down from the world
Bro so happy knox is braking down one of my favorite artists.
I really love how you break things down. I’ve always loved lyrics and really enjoy your creative take on songs, styles and meanings.
