I also have a t3x in 300 win mag. I love mine. Just shot a couple sub 1 inch groups with it today at 100 yards. It's a great hunting gun - yes the light weight feeds you more recoil, but if u can practice and learn to squeeze smooth shots, one should be all you need. Fantastic accuracy with 180 grains, butter smooth action, and you're not packing a heavy beast rifle through the bush!
Good review. As I’m in Canada the 2 negatives don’t really mean much here. I got a 270 Tikka this spring and it shot 1” groups with 3 brands of ammo right out of the box. Just got rid of a Bergara Hunter B14 that would not shoot less than 1.75” to 3+” on 12 brands of ammo. Bergaras are suppose to shoot sub moa (also it would not feed). So it’s gone and a Tikka 7 Rem Mag is in its place. Just haven’t taken it out yet.
I also had issues with a B-14 HMR in 308. It would maybe shoot 2 out of 3 5-shot groups under 1 MOA with the best load I could work up for it over a period of two years. I got a Tikka CTR in 6.5 Creedmoor after this rifle and it averaged right around 0.5 MOA for 5-shot groups with the first random handload I tried in it. Last weekend, while working up a load, I averaged 0.61 MOA for 5-shot groups with the Tikka, with two back-to-back groups (loaded within 0.3 grains of powder) sitting at around 0.3 MOA. The difference between my experience with Bergara and Tikka has been night and day. I even sent the Bergara back to have it looked at. They just retorqued the action screws (which were already torqued to their spec using a calibrated torque wrench) fired two 3-shot groups through it (one of which was 0.98 MOA), and sent it back to me without even telling me they were sending it. I was away on vacation and had to pay the courier to hold it to avoid it being returned to sender. It still shoots just as poorly as it did before. Needless to say, I will never be buying another Bergara product again. I would be upset if a budget hunting rifle shot this poorly. Considering Bergara's reputation and the fact that "match" is in the name of the rifle, I expected a lot more.
@@michaelhill6451 I have not regretted these Tikka rifles. Both performed just excellent on moose and deer this past season. I was so disappointed with that Bergara. I’d heard so much about them on how accurate they are but not the one I had. I emailed Bergara with the serial number of the rifle and explained the issues of non feeding and dismal accuracy but I never heard a peep back from them. So that just cemented my opinion of never buying another rifle from Bergara.
@@larrysayers1377 Interesting. I believe I had to e-mail them twice to get a response (which amounted to nothing in the end). Yeah, I'd also heard a lot about how "accurate" Bergara rifles were which was why I got one. It is easily one of the worst shooting rifles I have ever owned (if not the worst).
@@michaelhill6451 I was fortunate I think in that the gun shop where I bought the Bergara looked at the video I took and I gave them the target I used and took back the gun with full credit. So then I got the 7 Rem.
I have 2 tikkas. A roughtech in 6.5 creed and a T3x lite in 30-06. My god I tell you this 30-06 kicks the absolute Jesus out of me (all stock and 168gr) and it’s comparable to a 300wby mag. While at the range a guy showed up with his T3x lite in 300wm. I asked to shoot it and to my surprise. It kicks a lot less. Same gun, but 300wm and it hits like a 308 out of a savage arms 110. It does not make any sense but I’m going to buy a lite in 300wm because of how little it recoils compare to my 30-06. He was shooting power shock 180 while I’m shooting 168 nos ACBLR
I’m sure it has alot to do with the recoil pad, Im planning on swapping it with a limb saver soon and hopefully that’ll help some. Just from the bench it’s brutal, thanks for watching!
The Tikka T3x barrel, action, and trigger are 10/10 IMO. Where they reduce cost is in the cheap plastic stocks and plastic bottom metal… At a similar price point, Browning is providing factory bedded stocks and quality bottom metal in the X-bolts. If you like your Tikka plastic stock you can get a pillar bedding kit and after market aluminum bottom metal which will significantly improve the stock to receiver connection and enhance stability and accuracy. Cheers!
I'm probably just being silly but my Tikkas all shoot sub-moa with those "cheap plastic stocks". So what exactly would I gain from replacing them? And the Browning extractor is far less robust than the Tikka. Also the Tikka bolt is easy to disassemble for cleaning, not so with the X-Bolt.
I have a CTR which has bottom metal but still has a plastic stock. The thing will average under 0.5 MOA for 5-shot groups with just about every bullet I've tried in it though so I don't really care if the stock is plastic or not.
A 300WM in a sub 7 pound rifle is always going to be stout, no doubt. They probably use that light recoil pad to keep the weight down. Limbsaver airtech pad is ~$35 online. I think it's the 10826 size that fits the T3x. Anyway, solid review. Thanks!
You know I completely overlooked replacing the recoil pad, I just jumped to the conclusion of getting a brake put on. I’ll definitely do that and see how that helps. Thanks for watching!
@@gs_firearms9673recoil is a double edged sword… one edge cuts your shoulder, the other edge cuts into your ability to follow through and make quick follow up shots. I haven’t personally shot one in a tikka, I’ve shot one in a Weatherby and a Rem 700 I’d imagine it would be a tad bit snappier than those just based off the weight but it won’t be nothing compared to how the 300 win mag is in the tikka, the biggest thing id tell you to change out is the recoil pad with something like a limb saver. It will make the gun much more comfortable to shoot. Thanks for watching!
Yeah that’s one thing I didn’t think about until after the video is the already thin barrel contour, your right though. Thanks for watching! I’ll be releasing a weatherby vanguard review this week so stay tuned!

I don’t care for these. The stock is the worst in the industry. It somehow magnifies recoil. The magazine doesn’t allow for loads over Sami spec.
